Phil Gingrey, a Republican Congressman from Georgia, has brought back up the topic of ” legitimate rape .” The term was broached by Todd Akin – a losing candidate for Congress in Missouri who drew MAJOR fire last year for saying a woman’s body “shuts down” in the face of this type of act – and Gingrey tried to defend the point yesterday at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast. “What he meant by legitimate rape was just look, someone can say I was raped: a scared-to-death 15-year-old that becomes impregnated by her boyfriend and then has to tell her parents, that’s pretty tough and might on some occasion say, ‘Hey, I was raped.’ Continued Gingrey, who has served as an OB-GYN: “That’s what he meant when he said legitimate rape versus nonlegitimate rape. I don’t find anything so horrible about that. But then he went on and said that in a situation of rape, of a legitimate rape, a woman’s body has a way of shutting down so the pregnancy would not occur. He’s partly right on that.” He is? “I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true. We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight, because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ “So he was partially right, wasn’t he?” Well, no, for the reason that Gingrey himself then outlines: a woman doesn’t know when she is going to be raped. “But the fact that a woman may have already ovulated 12 hours before she is raped, you’re not going to prevent a pregnancy there by a woman’s body shutting anything down, because the horse has already left the barn, so to speak. And yet the media took that and tore it apart.” As you might expect, Gingrey was then forced to backtrack from what appeared to be a semi-defense of Akin’s position, releasing the following statement today: “I do not defend, nor do I stand by, the remarks made by Rep. Akin. … In my attempt to provide context as to what I presumed they meant, my position was misconstrued.” The lesson, as always: politicians are best served by not bringing up the topic of “legitimate rape.”
We keep trying to tell you that race matters ! Black and Latino students in NYC who attend poverty stricken schools are more likely to end up with teachers who have received unsatisfactory ratings. Via NYPost reports : Teachers who received bad performance ratings in the past school year were likelier to be teaching in high-poverty schools, or in schools with high percentages of black, Hispanic or low-achieving students, a new analysis found. The StudentsFirstNY report on the 3.2 percent of teachers were rated “unsatisfactory” — known as a “U-rating” — for the 2011-12 school year found large differences in how they were distributed throughout the school system. The analysis found that students in high-poverty schools were at least three times more likely to be taught by a U-rated teacher than were students in low-poverty schools. “An ineffective teacher in any classroom is a failure of the system at the expense of students,” said StudentsFirstNY Executive Director Micah Lasher, a former legislative liaison for Mayor Bloomberg. “A concentration of ineffective teachers serving specific student populations is an injustice.” Among the group’s eight recommendations, including having the city and teachers’ union reach a deal on a new teacher evaluation system by next week’s Jan. 17 deadline, are financial incentives for good teachers who stay in high-needs schools. Failing to reach a deal by the deadline would cost the city at least $250 million in state education aid. StudentsFirstNY also calls for a cap on the number of ineffective teachers who are allowed to remain at one school from year to year. The city currently does have at least two programs that offers incentives for teachers who agree to work in high needs schools – one that offers recruitment and tuition reimbursements, and the other that offers $15,000 in housing support in return for a 3-year commitment. The teachers’ union has also said that high concentrations of U-rated teachers can be caused by other factors — such as antagonism between a principal and his or her teachers. A 2011 investigation by the Department of Education found that the current principal at Fordham HS for the Arts – where 20 percent of teachers received a U-rating in 2011-12 – tried to force out teachers she didn’t like by giving them bad ratings without actually having observed their teaching. So the good news is not all these teachers are really as bad as it looks, but the bad news is enough of them earned their bad ratings for us to be fairly certain that our kids are not receiving the same quality of education that white students in more affluent schools are getting? Yeah… This doesn’t seem like a newsflash, but this needs to be fixed quickly. We wouldn’t be surprised if they discovered the same kind of inequalities in cities like Chicago where youth violence is rampant either. We need to be concerned about who is teaching our kids! This ninja had the nerve to hire a lawyer who reps his police union , cause you know, he paid his dues and all!!! According to The Washington Post , Wendel Palmer abused a young girl from the youth choir he directed in his church from 2004-2006…his lawyer’s asking why the victim’s only reporting it now!?!?! The Metropolitan Police Department officer accused of sexually abusing a young girl in the youth choir he directed would send the rest of the group to the store and order his victim to stay behind, according to court documents. Wendel Palmer, 44, pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of first-degree child sexual abuse in D.C. Superior Court. According to court documents, the abuse occurred while Palmer directed the youth choir at Bethuel Temple Church of Christ Apostolic in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Avenue SE. During rehearsals, the court documents say, Palmer would tell the girl to stay with him in the pastor’s office while the rest of the choir members went to a store. The assaults began in August 2004 when the girl was 11, according to court documents. They allegedly ran through August 2006, when she was 13. She told investigators there were “too many incidents to count,” court documents say. Other incidents allegedly took place elsewhere in the D.C. area. Police learned of the alleged abuse when the mother of the alleged victim, who is now 19, called a hotline in March 2012 to report it, according to court documents; Detectives interviewed the woman days later. Palmer’s attorney, Harold Martin, argued Thursday that the allegations were “not specific” regarding the date and time of the offenses. Martin also asked why the alleged victim waited until 2012 to report the abuse. “That should raise some question about the level of proof,” said Martin, who also represents the D.C. police union. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah McClellan said her office has no reason to question the woman’s credibility. It was unclear whether Palmer was still associated with the church. Calls to the church were not answered, and a woman who answered a Pennsylvania number listed for the pastor, Winston R. Palmer, said he did not want to talk to a reporter. It could not be determined whether the pastor and Wendel Palmer are related. Bethuel Temple has churches in Southeast Washington and Harrisburg, Pa. The name on the church marquis is Bishop William Rutherford Palmer Jr., who died in 2010 at the age of 75. His wife declined to comment when asked about Wendel Palmer. Several other people listed in public records as relatives also declined to speak to a reporter. In an interview, Pennsylvania Magistrate Judge Robert Jennings III said he knows both Wendel Palmer and the pastor, though he declined to detail their relationship to each other. Jennings said he has attended the Harrisburg church for about five years and has been to the Anacostia church. Asked about the allegations, he said: “I find that hard to believe, I have to say that. I can’t fathom it. I think he is a fine, upstanding young man.” McClellan said Palmer tried to elude police when they tried to arrest him, a claim Martin denied. Court documents say that a sergeant who knew that Palmer was wanted on an arrest warrant discreetly called 911 when she saw him inside the police union office on Wednesday, but he drove away before he could be apprehended and sped away from the sergeant as she followed him in her personal car. Palmer later turned himself in, according to court documents. Palmer is a 22-year veteran of the department who had been assigned to the Sixth District. D.C. Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump confirmed Palmer’s arrest but declined to answer further questions about the investigation. Palmer, who joined the police force in 1990, got into trouble in 2004 after a woman flagged him down while on patrol to tell him about a domestic dispute. City records show that Palmer allowed her into his marked cruiser, took her to a restaurant and brought her back to her apartment. The woman’s husband and aunt came home and found them, according to the records. They filed a complaint with police, who suspended him for 35 days for conduct unbecoming an officer, failure to obey orders and neglect of duty. In 2009, the D.C. Office of Employee Appeals reduced the suspension to 13, awarding Palmer back pay. Palmer, of Fort Washington, has six children through a previous marriage that ended in 2011, according to court records. The records show that his ex-wife took custody of the children — two are now adults — in June 2011. A woman who answered the phone at a number listed for his ex-wife, LaVera Palmer, declined to comment Thursday. Palmer was ordered held in jail ahead of a hearing scheduled for Tuesday. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal charges. Magistrate Judge Karen Howze granted Martin’s request to have Palmer isolated from other inmates while jailed, which is common when police are arrested. It’s sad that no one will speak out against this predator. Something shady is definitely going on here. Hopefully justice will be served! Images via shutterstock
She was having an affair with her ‘son’… and the two plotted to murk her husband so they could collect his life insurance policy! Via the NY Daily Mail : A Las Vegas woman, her brother and her adopted son have all been charged with attempting to kill the woman’s husband so as to cash in on a life insurance policy. Amy Pearson, 42, was also involved in a romantic relationship with her adopted son, 21-year-old Michael Bessey, a police report released Monday stated, and had nearly finalized a divorce with Robert Bessey, 49. Once the divorce was completed, Pearson would no longer have a legal claim to the $250,000 life insurance policy, the police report said. On Nov. 14, Robert Bessey was driving his car on Interstate 15 when a gold SUV pulled up next to him and one of the occupants shot him in the neck. Bessey survived the attempt on his life, however, and called 911 with his cellphone. Surveillence video at a gas station placed Michael Bessey and Richard Pearson, 39, in the van shortly before the crime occurred. “Michael and Amy were very close,” Robert Bessey told police, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported. Apparently, that closeness was a factor in the divorce proceedings. Police initially didn’t arrest Amy Pearson, but on the strength of monitored communication between the woman and her adopted son, they built a case against her. Michael Bessey sent a letter to Pearson shortly after his arrest, and pleaded for his father to drop the charges against him. “Robert had read the entire letter, which stated, ‘I miss touching you,’” the police report said. A jailhouse confession made to Michael Bessey’s cellmate also helped police zero in on Pearson. “He and Amy Pearson were to receive $400,000 in total benefits,” the police report stated. “He was going to buy a truck, his mother was going to pay off her mortgage, and the two would never have to work again.” Interviewed by police, Amy Pearson’s sister-in-law recounted how Pearson lamented turning to the younger Bessey to kill his adopted father. “That’s what happens when you send a boy to do [a] woman’s work,” Pearson was reported to have said, according to the police report. There are speculations that Amy Pearson is actually the biological mother of Michael Bessey; he’s the victims stepson after Robert Bessey formally adopted him when he was younger. Yuck! Score one for the NRA? A woman in Walton County Georgia save her children from an introducer on Friday – by firing six bullets into his neck and face. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution , the unnamed female hid with her two kids in a crawl space after an ex-convict later identified as Paul Ali Slater repeatedly rang her doorbell. Once he forced his way inside via crowbar… “He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver,” Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the newspaper, adding that the woman connected on five of her six shots and fled to a neighbor’s house while Slater lay on the ground bleeding. Slater somehow remained conscious and made it to his car, only for authorities to quickly find him in a driveway. He told them he was “dying” and was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center. “That mother’s instinct kicked in,” Chapman said. “You go after a mother’s kids and she’ll find herself capable of doing things she never thought she was capable of.”
Dear Bossip , One of my good friends’ mutual friend befriended me on Facebook about two years ago. He thought I was beautiful and wanted to carry a conversation with me. I thought he was cute but didn’t really care to entertain him; plus I was in an on and off relationship. Still, we exchanged numbers and texted. It wasn’t deep but it helped pass the time. During the time his college was 4 hours from mine. I had no intentions on ever seeing him and just wanted to keep him at a distance. Later, something happened that made me lose interest so I left it alone. He would hit me up once in a blue, but for the most part I left it alone. Last summer his father died so he moved back in with his mom to help her out. I hit him up to give my condolences and to let him know that I was here. People always say I’m here when someone dies, but I really meant it because I lost my father a few years ago. Anyways our conversations picked up again. I had just gotten out of my 4 year on and off again relationship and wasn’t looking for anything. I expressed that very firmly. The more we talked the deeper it got and of course I caught feelings. I fought it and gave my all not to give in but his words got me. I’d like to think I’m a very strong woman, but I put my guard down. He said he was willing to be just my friend until I was ready. I never felt like I would be ready. The timing wasn’t good. In 6 months I’m leaving to spend 2 ½ years teaching sick kids in Africa. But, again, I was just passing time. Soon our text messages turned into 4-5 hour phone calls almost every night. He made me laugh harder than anyone and we had so much in common. He told his family and friends about me and he was always on my mind. I even took a 2 ½ hour drive to see him one day. The chemistry was too real. I couldn’t deny it. I never slept with him, but it did get hot and heavy. (I told him I had a three month rule). Any way, he was supposed to come spend the weekend with me later on that month. I went out and bought all of this food because I love to cook. I was so excited to see him. He told me he would be at my house at 9 that night, only 9 came and went. Around 10:30 I got a text message saying that he couldn’t make it because of the drive and not having gas money. WTF!? I was pissed. I didn’t even get a phone call! He ended up calling me later, but I was too upset to pick up. We talked about it two days later and I let him know why I was disappointed. I wanted to believe in him. We all make mistakes so I let it go. At a later time I had some errands to run in his home town so I took that 2 ½ hour drive again and we had planned to meet up. To make a long story short he ended up flaking again. First time shame on you, the second time shame on me. And, with me there is no third time. It’s been two months and since then I’ve deleted his number and he’s called once and texted once. No apology or voicemail. I didn’t fall in love with him, but I liked him enough to put my guard down. Who spends 5 hours on the phone everyday with someone if they don’t care about you!? Why waste your time and introduce me to your sister and tell your family about me if you had intentions on being an a**? Am I crazy? Did I do something wrong? I’m a 2-year old college graduate with 3 jobs (the epitome of Miss Independent). I’m strong, beautiful, and very intelligent, but how could I be so dumb? How did the perfect guy end up being a wolf in sheep’s clothing? – Confused About His Behavior Dear Ms. Confused About His Behavior , Welp! Lesson learned. Don’t fret over it. Don’t get your panties into a bunch. And, definitely don’t let it consume you. He showed you his a** and thank the lord you didn’t bend over to kiss it. Who knows why he did what he did. There are lots of reasons. And, only he knows why. But, I wouldn’t let it bother me because you didn’t lose out on anything. You didn’t have sex with him. Thank goodness. And, the only thing you invested in was hours of conversation of your time. Please thank your lucky stars that you did not invest any large amount of money, resources, or sexual liaisons with him. Then you would be even angrier. But, let’s look at a few clues that lead to his silly and immature behaviors. 1.) You are not the first, nor will be the last girl he finds cute or beautiful on Facebook and want to have conversation with. Girl, most men peruse Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram stalking women’s profiles. All of these online sites make it easy for men (especially sexual predators) to have free access to your life. All the photos of that you post, and what you’re doing, and who you’re hanging with provides many men with insights into your psyche. And, the games begin. They are hunting for p***y. They make these elaborate schemes of playing on women’s emotions and feelings hoping one of them will be easy enough to get into his bed, and he can lay claim he blew your back out. And, you ladies make it easy for them because you put all your business out there. All a man has to do is read your status updates, read your timelines, and voila, you’ve given him insights to your life and world. SMDH! Y’all gon’ learn tuhday! 2.) Notice that in the beginning that he was keeping it light and easy. Just as you were. Any man who is really and genuinely interested in a woman will make every attempt in getting to know her. He will not only text, but call, SKYPE, and make attempts on visiting you. His conversation is not primarily on sex, and when you’re going to let him hit. He’s really interested in you, and getting to know you. But, men are good at deception. They will play your game, however, once you laid the 3-month rule on him, he hit the ground running. He thought you would be an easy lay. And, when you didn’t put out, he lost interest. You should be so lucky, and glad you stuck to your guns. Don’t every compromise yourself for a one-night stand. 3.) Don’t ever. EVER! EVER! Make the first move by driving to a man’s house and he’s made no attempts to come see you. The thirst is heavy and strong if you drive to a man’s house first. If you go to his home first, and you drive long distances, or fly across country, uhm, he feels and thinks that he’s going to get some. He thinks you’re going to spread your legs for him because only a woman who is vulnerable, weak, and d**k hungry will drive or fly to go see a man first. Ladies, if he’s interested in you, and getting to know you, then he has to be the one who makes the first move, and in coming to see you. He has to make the effort in coming to you. And, meet in a mutual public place. Do not go to his house. Do not invite him to yours. I don’t care how long you’ve been texting, or talking on the phone. I don’t care how comfortable you may feel. You don’t know him as well as you think you do. You’re playing with your life inviting strangers into your home. 4.) When his dad died, you became his shoulder to lean on. You became a voice and person to confide in. When people lose a loved one, especially a parent, they become vulnerable. They want someone they can talk to and someone they feel they connect with. And, what comes next with someone who is vulnerable, SEX! Their guard is down. They want to feel wanted. They want to be comforted. And, sex is an easy and accessible way inside their lives. He wanted sex. He wanted you to really show you cared for him by laying with him. And, you were like, “Oh, no ma’am. I’m not an easy chick. And, that you weren’t cheap.” Once you didn’t give up the goods, he became disinterested. You were not worth the investment in getting to know further. Again, be glad he walked out of your life. Be thankful that he showed you who he really was. 5.) The first time he flaked when he was supposed to come see you, and by 9pm when he didn’t arrive, and you didn’t get a text from him until 10:30pm with him saying he wasn’t coming because he didn’t have any gas money, that let’s me know that he had no intention on coming at all. Why wait an 1 ½ later to text. He didn’t even call. He texted you. Girl, puhlease. He doesn’t deserve any more conversation after that. Yeah, he may have really wanted to come, but he had the entire day to come up on some gas money for the drive to your house. But, I don’t buy it. A man who is interested in any woman will find the means and ways to get to the woman he wants to be with. Trust me! Then, you give him another opportunity when you had to go to his city and he flaked again. Girl, no! NO! NO! NO! NO! (In my Destiny’s Child voice). Lastly, when you revealed to him that you were going to South Africa for 2 ½ years, and on top of that, you have a 3-month rule before having sex, and you leave in six months, chile, ain’t nobody got time for that! He wanted to hit it before you left, and keep it moving. He isn’t nor wasn’t invested in anything longer with you. And, you shouldn’t be thinking of anything long-term either. You’re not going to be here. So, why invest in something with someone and you’re going to be gone for 2 ½ years? That doesn’t make any sense. Look, this is a lesson learned. He’s not worth your time, presence, or friendship. Delete him as you’ve already done from all your social media sites, and keep his number deleted. As a matter of fact, put DNA (Do Not Answer) next to his number so that way when he calls or texts again, you’ll know better than to answer. Also, you’re young. You’re leaving to go to South Africa for 2 ½ years to make a difference in other’s lives. That should be your focus. You don’t have time for a relationship with some lowlife bum with childish games. Girl, go be your greatness, and commit yourself to the power and inspiration that you are. You’re going to do great things in this world, and you need a great man beside you. Hell, you may find a prince or king while in South Africa. – Terrance Dean Hey Bossip Fam, what do you think? Share your opinions and thoughts below! This nasty azz liar got 15 years in prison too! SMH. According to NewsOne , he’d been gettin’ it in with other women too…and never told them a thing: A Texas judge sentenced a 42-year-old ex-youth football coach to 15 years in prison after knowingly infecting a woman with HIV, the Dallas Morning News reports.Jimmy Bernard Billingsley pleaded guilty to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Billingsley admitted that he’s known since 2008 that he was HIV-positive. But he still had unprotected sex with the mother of a youth football player he dated in 2009. That woman learned she contracted HIV after feeling ill and taking a blood test soon after, according to KVUE-TV. The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, called local police after getting the test results because she suspected that Billingsley purposefully infected her after insisting that they have unprotected sex. “He would say, ‘You’ll be okay. I won’t get you pregnant. I don’t have anything. You don’t have anything to worry about,’” she said. At a hearing last Friday, Billingsley took the stand and admitted that he had sex with several other women since learning he had HIV; he told none of them of his status. The judge handed down a sentence of 15 years after his testimony. “This defendant’s intentional non-disclosure to numerous sex partners was egregious, dangerous, willful and malicious,” said Assistant District Attorney Joshua Ross in a prepared statement. “He is truly a snake in the grass. His sentence brings some justice to his known victim and provides a measure of protection for so many others.” As for the woman he infected, she says the grind of going to the doctor and taking medication is taking its toll on her. She hopes the cocktails she takes daily will fend off full-blown AIDS. She warms other to protect themselves. “Just be careful out there,” she said. “Don’t trust anybody. It’s not a game to play with. You don’t want to be in this situation.” Well ladies (and gents), always wrap it up cause you can’t trust people these days. Images via tumblr
My name is Anaïs. My Bieber Experience happened on November 26 th 2012 in Montreal, Canada. It all started when Justin announced his tour dates. I was so excited, maybe he would come to my city aka Narnia. I was checking the date list and that’s when I saw ‘Montreal – Bell Center.’ I started freaking out. “YESSS OMG THERE’S MY CHANCE TO MEET JUSTIN.” But then I saw the date was November 26 th 2012. So here’s my story: my dad had a daughter with another woman before he had me with my mom. His daughter’s name was Laurence but she died in a car accident a few years before I was born (I didn’t have the chance to meet her but I still went to the cemetery every year with my dad) After that, my dad and Laurence’s mom had another child (he’s my brother) but I rarely see him because he lives with his mom. My dad and his mom split up 3 months after he was born. Everybody thinks I’m an only child but I’m not. 2 years later my dad met my mom and they had me, yay. But I was born with a kidney tumor. Miraculously it disappeared with almost no treatment. There are people who call that a medical miracle but I think it’s my sister who protects me in heaven. My parents split up when I was 5 years old and my mom didn’t have anywhere to go so I went to live with her at her friend’s house (@loribarakat’s mom) All my life I always felt so lonely. Even my own brother abandoned me, he never calls me or wishes me happy birthday. I was 10 years old when I got hospitalized because I was sad and lonely. Doctors have referred me to a psychologist until the age of 12. I still feel the same today because I know that my sister and brother are not going to come back. I used to wish that my parents would get back together just before blowing my birthday candles. My mom started dating another man and that’s when I knew my wish wouldn’t come true. I was 12 years old when I saw Justin’s cover of ‘With You’ and I immediately fell in love with him. I’ve been supporting Justin ever since that day and I promise that I’ll be here until the end. So on May 23 rd I bought my VIP meet and greet tickets. I was so happy. I cried for 5 hours straight. I t was the best thing that ever happened to me. People are so quick to judge when I say I support Justin Bieber, but what they don’t understand is, when I hear his voice, all the bad thoughts I have disappear. His music is the only thing in this world that actually works to make me feel less lonely and a lot happier. I also met lots of awesome people because of him who have become really good friends. Plus, Justin’s music has helped me get through lots of things, that’s why I wanted to meet him so bad. I just love him so much. The day I met Justin was simply the most beautiful day of my life. Being able to talk to him in person was unreal. For once, I can say that I had a real smile on my face. All day I felt like I was in a movie. I saw Kenny (he gave me a high five), Dan, Fredo, Jazzy, Jaxon, his dad Jeremy, Pattie, and even his grandparents. I was in second row and I couldn’t ask for more. I am so grateful for all that. Justin changed my life and I know it’s for the best. Dreams do come true. I never thought that one day I would be writing My Bieber Experience, but Never Say Never, right? Today I’m 16 years old, I’m proud to be a belieber and I’m proud to say I met my idol on November 26 th . The exact same day my sister passed away a few years ago. Read more: My name is Anaïs.
