Emmys Fashion: Kim Kardashian, Lea Michele Go Old-School Glam

Anna Paquin, January Jones and more take fashion risks that pay off at the awards show. By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian arrives at the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images In a sea of blush, beads and black, there was an overarching theme on the Emmy Awards red carpet Sunday night (August 29): old-school glam. With the men evoking such Hollywood icons as Cary Grant and Clark Gable, the women hit the carpet in gowns that harked back to the golden era of the silver screen, thanks to retro silhouettes and an emphasis on glamour. Kim Kardashian paid homage to Elizabeth Taylor in a white Marchesa dress with a halter neckline and cape detailing and a big cuff by Lorraine Schwartz. “Glee” star Amber Riley took that same route, however, co-star Dianna Agron may have gone a bit too retro in a lilac-and-black-lace tiered dress that screamed “Gone With the Wind.” Lea Michele hit the mark in Oscar de la Renta, even if the fit was a bit off. Her strapless navy ruched gown certainly made a statement with its crazy skirt and a diamond choker by Lorraine Schwartz. Keeping it with the Gleeks, the guys went standard-issue red carpet, thanks to tailored dark suits, but Kevin McHale made the look all his own with his thick-framed glasses and gold bow tie. Then, there were the actors who vamped up the carpet. “True Blood” stars Rutina Wesley and Carrie Preston went bold in their printed gowns, but none as bold as Anna Paquin, who was gladiator chic in her Alexander McQueen gown with black and gold sequins. She also had the ultimate accessory, co-star and hubby Stephen Moyer, who kept it stylish in a suit and tie. “Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev dazzled in a champagne ruched, one-shoulder gown with sparse beading that sparkled in just the right places. The cast of “Mad Men” also made bold statements on the carpet. The

Hey Ladies, Want a Raise? Wash Your Vagina — Women’s Day Magazine’s Ultra-Sexist Ad

Ad appearing in Women's Day magazine's jaw-dropping argument. So, ladies, you say you want a raise? How should you go about getting it? First, you have to figure out how to compete with the guy in the next cubicle. After all, he went to a school almost as good as yours. His grades were nearly as good as yours, too. He works hard. In fact, most mornings, he's the second person in the office. You know this, because you're always first. He is young, ruggedly good looking, and he washes his balls with a manly but fresh sandalwood soap. What to do? CBS to Black Beck Rally Attendees: ‘I’m Noticing that There Aren’t a Lot of Minorities Here Today’

CBS and the rest of the MSM have decided the Tea Party movement is racist and hostile to non-whites, and it’s a mantra they’re going to illustrate whenever they see an opportunity. Reporter Nancy Cordes saw a “nearly all-white crowd” at Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally in Washington, DC, as she (at least an off-camera female voice) demanded of two black women who weren’t afraid to attend: “I’m noticing that there aren’t a lot of minorities here today. Why do you think that is?” One of the women shot back: “They’re probably over there with Al Sharpton.” In her story for Saturday’s CBS Evening News, Cordes had a very specific attendee number: “According to a tally commissioned by CBS News, roughly 87,000 people gathered here at this event today, thronging both sides of the reflecting pool, stretching all the way to the World War II memorial. That’s the largest gathering here on the mall since President Obama was inaugurated.” NBC anchor Lester Holt was more generous with his crowd guesstimate (“tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands”) before he described the Beck rally as “steeped in patriotism, rooted in the nation’s cultural divide and greeted by suspicion.” Holt opened the August 28 NBC Nightly News: Good evening. Tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of people from all over the country gathered at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington today for a rally steeped in patriotism, rooted in the nation’s cultural divide and greeted by suspicion. It was organized by provocative conservative talk show host Glenn Beck who was joined on stage by Sarah Palin. And if that wasn’t enough to trigger reaction from activists on the left, the timing and place of the rally certainly was – the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech delivered from those same steps 47 years ago today. Flashback to April: “ White NBC Reporter Confronts Black Man at Tea Party Rally: ‘Have You Ever Felt Uncomfortable? ‘” Back to the CBS Evening News and Cordes, a little of what led into the exchange quoted above: NANCY CORDES: Beck, who is a converted Mormon, likes to call himself a clown, but today he played the role of ring-master, preaching racial tolerance to the nearly all-white crowd. A change in tone from the Fox News host who notoriously called President Obama [Beck: “a racist.”] CORDES (or at least a female voice) TO TWO BLACK WOMEN: I’m noticing that there aren’t a lot of minorities here today. Why do you think that is? WOMAN: They’re probably over there with Al Sharpton. (There was no World News on ABC on Saturday night, at least in the EDT and CDT zones, because of the Little League World Series Texas v Hawaii playoff game. Hawaii won.)

Inside Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth’s Breakup

Hemsworth reportedly seen in the company of other women while his ‘Last Song’ co-star worked on a movie in Detroit. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have seemingly sung their “Last Song,” and new details about the couple’s split are surfacing. According to sources, 20-year-old Hemsworth may have been stepping out on Cyrus, who has been focusing on her career. E! News reports that earlier this month, Hemsworth was seen flirting with admirers at a party in Newport Beach and hooking up with another young woman while partying in Huntington Beach during the US Open Surf Competition. Cyrus, 17, has been in Detroit filming the flick “LOL.” “Ever since she left for Detroit, Miley has been super focused on her work,” a source described as an “insider close to the former couple” told E! News. “Liam wanted more, but she’s 17 and has other priorities right now. He’s been a distraction. [Miley’s] not with anybody else.” Despite that assertion, rumors are now circulating that Cyrus may be spending quality time with co-star Adam Sevani. A photo of the pair allegedly hanging out on the set of “LOL” has circulated, although it is unclear if it is actually Sevani in the picture. Hemsworth, who was seen hanging out alone at a Dave Matthews Band concert earlier this week, has reportedly visited the set of “LOL” twice. “Both visits were only about 24 hours in length — by Miley’s choice,” the insider told E! News. “She is not ready to settle down, and Liam’s not a happy camper.” Breakup rumors have plagued the duo in the past, and they have been denied by Cyrus. And E! News’ source said that the couple may not be completely over just yet: “They’re both young. To say they are done forever would be premature, but it’s safe to say for now they are doing their own thing.” However, Hemsworth’s rep . Cyrus’ refused to comment. Miss Mexico for the Win of the Day

I think the Mexican drug traffickers paid off some judges to make this miracle happen, maybe to make Mexico a little more high profile, so more tourists start heading down for them to rob, or falsely imprison…or maybe it’s cuz they are tired of everyone laughing at their women for being very fertile, thick and skilled at making hotel beds, if given enough time for their lazy fat Mexican asses….. But since I am Mexican I figure I should show national pride and put pictures of this drug dealer’s girlfriend up on the site cuz she’s in her fucking bikini…

Tex. School Denies Child of Gay Moms

The daughter of a lesbian couple, married legally in Canada, was denied admission by a private school outside of Dallas. FoxNews.com reports that Jill and Tracy Harrison attempted to enroll their daughter Olivia at Bedford's St. Vincent's Episcopal School in Bedford. Upon going through Olivia's application, school officials assumed Tracy was a man, but when the women attended parent's night, Olivia was denied admission. The school released a statement claiming the women's “personal values” were in conflict with that of the Catholic school. The letter made a point to only reference Olivia's biological mother: “We regret the disappointment the mother feels. It is clear, however, that enrolling the child in a traditional Christian school, such as St. Vincent’s School, would not foster her own personal values at home. And it might undermine the moral instruction of our clergy and teachers in the minds of our schools students and parents. Our prayers are with Olivia and her mother.” The Harrisons said they chose St. Vincent's because of recommendations and the school's low student to teacher ratio. added by: TimALoftis

Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton To Make ‘Joyful Noise’

The movie star and country queen attempt to save a gospel choir in their new flick. By Mawuse Ziegbe Queen Latifah Photo: Michael Kovac/ FilmMagic Country music and hip-hop royalty Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah are slated to rule things on the big screen as co-stars in the upcoming flick “Joyful Noise.” According The Hollywood Reporter, the musicians/actors will play a pair of ladies who work to stop the closure of a scrappy gospel choir. Latifah will portray the mother of a couple of teenagers who takes the reins of the Pacashau Gospel Choir after the choir leader dies. Parton will play the late choir director’s wife who is gunning for the chance to helm the singing group. The country diva and jazz/pop/hip-hop mogul may also bust out a few tunes together in the film. “Noise” reportedly has a musical angle and director Todd Graff, the writer-director behind the 2003 coming-of-age flick “Camp,” is working on the script. “Noise” marks a return to the silver-screen for Parton, who followed up her successful crossover from country to pop with Hollywood hits in the ’80s like “Steel Magnolias” and “Nine to Five.” Latifah will stick up for a choir that has fallen on hard times in “Noise” but the multimedia mogul has said she wants to help out promising actors in Hollywood as well. The hip-hop pioneer and big-screen A-lister broke down her reasoning for bringing rapper Common onboard for her last project, “Just Wright.” “Every time that I do a movie, when I get into a position of power and my voice actually meant something, I realized that I could no longer walk out onto a set and look at a bunch of white males,” Latifah, who was a producer on “Wright,” told MTV News earlier this year. “That was just no longer acceptable. I need to see dynamics. I needed to see what I just came out of from walking off the street when I came in here. Where are the women? Where are the people of color? I need to see that in front of me, ’cause I just don’t feel like it’s right.” What do you think about Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton joining forces onscreen? Let us know in the comments below! Saudi Clerics Advocate Adult Breast-Feeding

(June 5) — Women in Saudi Arabia should give their breast milk to male colleagues and acquaintances in order to avoid breaking strict Islamic law forbidding mixing between the sexes, two powerful Saudi clerics have said. They are at odds, however, over precisely how the milk should be conveyed. A fatwa issued recently about adult breast-feeding to establish “maternal relations” and preclude the possibility of sexual contact has resulted in a week's worth of newspaper headlines in Saudi Arabia. Some have found the debate so bizarre that they're calling for stricter regulations about how and when fatwas should be issued. Sheikh Al Obeikan, an adviser to the royal court and consultant to the Ministry of Justice, set off a firestorm of controversy recently when he said on TV that women who come into regular contact with men who aren't related to them ought to give them their breast milk so they will be considered relatives. “The man should take the milk, but not directly from the breast of the woman,” Al Obeikan said, according to Gulf News. “He should drink it and then becomes a relative of the family, a fact that allows him to come in contact with the women without breaking Islam's rules about mixing.” This is so screwed up I'm speechless. added by: 2helenahandbasket
