Iggy Azalea & French Montana: It’s Over!

It’s only been seven months since we first learned that  Iggy Azalea and French Montana were dating , but it looks like the couple has already called it quits. It’s surprising in the sense that French and Iggy were talking marriage at one point, But it’s less surprising when you consider the rappers tumultuous romantic histories. Iggy dumped Nick Young just a few months before making her relationship with French social media official. It certainly wasn’t her fault that the engagement failed, as Nick boasted about cheating on her in a video posted online by his Los Angeles Lakers teammate, D’Angelo Russell. Breaking it off with Nick was unquestionably the right thing to do, but with the benefit of hindsight, it seems clear that Iggy’s next relationship wouldn’t have much of a chance. Rebounds are always rough, and French and Iggy’s situation was exacerbated by a number of factors: They moved too fast; they were both fresh from serious relationships, and the whole situation was playing out in the public eye. Iggy’s not a massive star at this point – in fact, she seems destined to serve as a punchline on some future I Love Whaterver the Hell We’re Gonna Call the First half of This Decade episode – but her breakup was the stuff of tabloid legend. In addition to the cheating boast, Young got his ex pregnant while he was still with Iggy.  She took to social media to say that even that wasn’t the final straw, and she only broke off the engagement after she saw security camera footage of Nick bringing other women back to their apartment. So you would think that French Montana – who allegedly cheated on Khloe Kardashian – wouldn’t be Iggy’s first choice when it came time to re-enter the dating pool. There’s no word yet on what caused Montana and Azalea to call it quits, but not suriprisingly, the leading theory is that French was caught cheating. Spurring the speculation is the fact that Iggy moved on with the quickness, already allegedly hooking up with 19-year-old hip hop producer LJay Currie. The pair was spotted getting handsy with one another in Cabo San Lucas over the weekend. We’re fine with Iggy finding herself a new dude so quickly – we’re just hoping the fact that he’s a producer doesn’t mean she has more music on the way.

Vanderpump Rules Homophobia Controversy Erupts on Social Media

If you watched Vanderpump Rules last night , you known that the highlight of the episode was unquestionably the roast of Jax Taylor. For the most part, the cast showed some surprising comedic chops in skewering the West Coast’s answer to The Situation Unfortunately, as is often the case at this sort of event, someone crossed the line into decidedly “not cool” territory – and surprisingly, it was a member of the audience. As fans of the show know, rumors about Jax being gay have been circulating for years. At this point, it’s sort of a running gag amongst the group of frenemies, and while there may be problematic undertones, it seems that the humor isn’t rooted in homophobia, but rather in the notion that Jax used to exchange sexual favors for rent money. But that’s not the way Brittany Cartwright’s mother sees it. If you watch Vanderpump Rules online , then you’re aware that Brittany’s mom, Cherrie, is an ultra-conservative, deeply religious woman who’s less than thrilled about her daughter’s choice of suitor. Remarkably, however, she was unconcerned about the allegations that Jax loves cocaine, cheated on every girlfriend he’s ever had, and has served time behind bars on numerous occasions. What did bother her, however, was what she described as the “homosexual stuff.” Jax’s alleged past as a male escort made its way into the night’s stand-up routines, and each time, Cherrie made no effort to conceal her chagrin. “He’s slept with many, many women,” Tom Schwartz joked about Jax at one point. “And a few men!” Cherrie grimaced as her daughter jokingly (we think) covered her ears. Several cast members and producer Andy Cohen have defended Cherrie, claiming that she was simply upset by the idea that her possible future son-in-law might be attracted to other  But in addition to being rooted in a dangerous stereotype about bisexual men, that excuse doesn’t hold water for two reasons: Cherrie wasn’t upset about the many anecdotes regarding Jax’s infidelity with other women, and she was also outraged by the jokes about Brittany hooking up with Kristen. Taking place, as it does, in West Hollywood, and featuring as one of its stars the owner of a prominent area gay club, Vanderpump is usually a pretty progressive, liberal-minded show. Watch Vanderpump Rules Season 5 Episode 12 Online (Though the cast rightfully took some flak for reacting to the Orlando nightclub shooting for turning up and dancing on top of bars.) So fans were upset not only by Cherrie’s homophobic views, but the cast’s defense of her comments. “Britt & her mom are HUGE #LGBTQ activists,” Stassi Schroeder tweeted during the show. “Any mom would be concerned if she heard her daughter’s bf might not be ‘into her.'” As we’re reminded every time we see some jackass with a Pepe the Frog meme as his avatar, there is still a lot of hate in America, and some of us are forced to confront it within our own homes or social circles. View Slideshow: 37 Classic Vanderpump Rules Moments in GIFs Except for in extreme cases, that doesn’t mean that we have to condemn the bigoted parties and sever ties. But it also doesn’t mean that we have to defend them or make excuses on their behalf. The way forward is to acknowledge hate and backward ideas and try to help our prejudiced pals see the error of their ways. Considering Jax and Brittany just landed a spinoff, we get the sense that this a position Mr. Taylor (who’s actually shown himself to be admirably right-minded on this particular issue) will find himself in more often in the years to come.

Yordano Ventura Dead: Kansas City Royals Pitcher Was 25

Sad news today: Yordano Ventura is dead. Ventura, a 25-year-old pitcher for the World Series-winning Kansas City Royals , died today in a car crash in the Dominican Republic. It’s unclear exactly what happened to cause the crash, but according to Sports Illustrated, it’s believed that he was under the influence at the time of the crash. A Dominican police chief first broke the news of the crash, tweeting in Spanish “Regrettable!! It is the player YORDANO VENTURA the person who died in an accident in Juan Adrian at dawn today.” Later, the Vice President of Communications and Broadcasting for the Royals confirmed the news. “It is with a heavy and broken heart that we confirm the passing of Yordano Ventura,” he tweeted. “The club will release a statement soon. #RIPAce” — Ace, of course, being Ventura’s nickname. The Royals released an official press release just a few hours ago to “regretfully announce the passing of Yordano Ventura, who perished in a car accident last night in the Dominican Republic.” In the statement, Dayton Moore, general manager of the Royals, said “Our prayers right now are with Yordano’s family as we mourn this young man’s passing.” “He was so young and so talented, full of youthful exuberance and always brought a smile to everyone he interacted with.” “We will get through this as an organization,” Moore concluded, “but right now is a time to mourn and celebrate the life of Yordano.” The statement also included some information about Ventura’s short career, which he spent entirely with the Royals “after signing as a non-drafted free agent in 2008” before “debuting for the club” in 2013. He played two World Series with the team, helping bring them their second ever victory in 2015. During the last game Ventura played, he wore a special hat that paid tribute to two other baseball players who died too soon: Jose Fernandez who died last fall in a boating accident , and Oscar Taveras who died in a car crash a few years ago. Ventura’s teammates are already sending messages of mourning and love on Twitter. “I love you Ace,” third baseman Mike Moustakas wrote. “I don’t know what to say other than I’m going to miss you a lot. RIP ACE.” First baseman Eric Hosmer tweeted “ACE I love you my brother. I’m in disbelief and don’t know what to say. I love you ACE.” Drew Butera, a catcher for the Royals, wrote “Gone way too soon. You will forever be my brother. My prayers are with you and your family. May you rest with the Lord now.” Fellow pitcher Kyle Zimmer wrote “We lost a great one today. Hard to believe he’s actually gone. You will be greatly missed, Ace.” Hunter Dozier said “I’m at a loss of words today.. Very sad day in the baseball community. You’ll be missed Ace.” “When you scroll down and your whole newsfeed is talking about your brother,” left fielder Terrance Gore mused. “The impact the energy you brought to our team #GoneTooSoon” “I am still in disbelief,” pitcher Matt Strahm wrote. “I am going to miss you Ace! The clubhouse won’t be the same without you.” General manager Dayton Moore added “We love Yordano. We love his heart & who he was as a teammate & friend. He challenged us & made us better. We’re going to miss him.” Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this tragic death.

Taylor Swift Under Fire for Women’s March Remarks!

Taylor Swift, more than any other popular celebrity, was extremely quiet during the 2016 presidential election. Aside from one social media post on Election Day expressing the importance of voting, she didn’t say a word — and a lot of people have been upset with her for it. Taylor is obviously one of the most influential celebrities today, and if she’d have been a little more outspoken about her political beliefs , some argue, it would have meant a lot to her fans. Of course, that’s assuming she supported Hillary Clinton. If she supported Trump , speaking out about it would have essentially been career suicide. But no matter who was Taylor’s pick for president, she obviously had no obligation to announce it. And remember, it was years and years into Taylor’s career before she felt comfortable enough to call herself a feminist , and even then, she only did it when feminism became something of a trend. All that is to say that Taylor’s never been one to loudly broadcast her political beliefs, especially if they’re even the slightest bit controversial. And boy, is she paying for it now. Yesterday, while hundreds of thousands of people all around the world were participating in the Women’s March — many of them celebrities — Taylor tweeted this: “So much love, pride, and respect for those who marched. I’m proud to be a woman today, and every day.” And immediately after she sent the tweet, people took issue with it. “This is gross opportunism,” one person told her. “Be better.” “As a fan of yours,” another person wrote, “this is some bullsh-t. You do not get to pick and choose when feminism benefits you .” The same person added “If you were really for feminism you would have spoken up against Donald Trump instead of just saying to vote on Election Day.” “You got a bad leg or something?” a follower hilariously pondered. “Why didn’t you March?” One person pulled out all the stops and told Taylor to “Stop using feminism as a prop to fuel your fake girl power narrative/meticulously crafted PR persona.” And that’s the issue: if Taylor truly was a feminist, these people believe that she should have been more vocal during the election, when it mattered the most. It’s so easy to take ten seconds and send a tweet, but why wasn’t she spotted at any marches yesterday? Rihanna and Katy Perry, two pop stars on Taylor’s level, managed to go out and support the cause they believe in, and there were no issues, no one caused a scene over seeing someone famous and stopped marching. Did she tweet about the Women’s March because she sincerely had feelings about it, or for the likes? It’s hard to say. But the point is that if Taylor really does feel so strongly about all this, there are a million things she could have done in the past several months to prove it.
