Odd Future, With Earl Sweatshirt, Set To Invade ‘RapFix Live’

Tyler, the Creator and company will probably run amok on ‘RapFix Live’ Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Odd Future Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Call security and alert the censors, because Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All will invade “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. Tyler, the Creator , Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, Domo Genesis, Mike G., Syd tha Kid, Matt Martians, Jasper Dolphin, Taco and Earl Sweatshirt will all camp out on the “RapFix” couch for a rare interview. The group broke through in February 2011, when Tyler and Hodgy famously performed their single “Sandwitches” on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and have been on a meteoric rise ever since. Sadly, Earl Sweatshirt , who helped lay the groundwork for the group, wasn’t around to experience it. The then-exiled teen was sent to an all-boys military school in Samoa, but now Earl is back home and will be on “RapFix Live.” On Tuesday (March 20), the squad is releasing The OF Tape, Vol. 2 on their own Odd Future Records. The video for the LP’s first single, “Rella,” already has already amassed more than 9 million views in a month on YouTube and features Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis and Tyler running amok and terrorizing residents in a suburban community. The Tape ‘s second video, for “NY (Ned Flander),” is just as zany, with Tyler appearing as a rapping baby. While Tyler is without a doubt the most popular of the crew, each member has either a solo project or off-shoot group projects in the works. Hodgy Beats and Left Brain for MellowHype and are prepping their upcoming album Numbers, while Syd Tha Kid and Matt Martians released their Purple Naked Ladies album in December under the moniker the Internet. Domo Genesis, Mike G and OF singer/songwriter Frank Ocean all have upcoming projects in the works. If we’re lucky, the crew will also talk about their upcoming sketch comedy television series “Loiter Squad,” which premieres on Cartoon Network on March 25, but when it comes to Odd Future, there is really no telling. Catch odd Future on “RapFix Live” Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com, and be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtags #RapFixLive. Send your questions for the artists to @MTVRapFiX! 20 Years of Crap That Opened on Oscar Weekend

As the Academy and its guests gather Sunday to enthusiastically slap congratulatory-calloused backs at the Oscars, an altogether different condition will overtake multiplexes nationwide. There, audiences will be confronted by a one-joke hippie comedy with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston ( Wanderlust ), an Amanda Seyfried thriller withheld from critics before opening day ( Gone ), the Navy SEAL recruitment effort ( Act of Valor ), and frequent Oscar week performer Tyler Perry, departing from his matriarch Madea for a change ( Good Deeds ).

Such a weak field is hardly an anomaly; the first months on the calendar historically are the wasteland of the release schedule, sitting in sharp contrast to the Academy’s annual celebration of cinematic “greatness.” A curious paradox is normally in play — at the time Hollywood crows about its best, it often serves up some of its worst. To gauge this phenomenon — and display the movie industry’s staggering self-unawareness — here is a look back at what has been foisted on the public during the last 20 years of Academy Awards weekends:

Woody Allen Adapting Bullets Over Broadway… to Hit Broadway in 2013

Woody Allen , whose Midnight in Paris is competing at this Sunday’s Academy Awards , will be bringing his Oscar-nominated 1994 comedy Bullets Over Broadway to the Great White Way in 2013, reports the New York Times. The adaptation has long been rumored to be in the works; Allen himself is writing the book, with songs culled from existing 1920s-era music. Cue obligatory Dianne Wiest quotes! [ NYT ]

Swedish House Mafia Focus On Future Releases, Expanding Tour

Trio parts ways with annual Pacha Ibiza residency in 2012. By Adam Stewart, with additional reporting by Akshay Bhansali Swedish House Mafia Photo: MTV News There’s a good chance your ears are still ringing from Swedish House Mafia ‘s takeover of Madison Square Garden , which was streamed live, over the weekend, but now that New York is back to normal and you’ve had a chance to watch the “Antidote” video a hundred times, it’s safe to say that Swedish House Mafia fans the world over are anxiously awaiting what’s next from the rock stars of house music. After months of rumors and chatter on studio work, MTV News sat down with the boys to see just what their plan of attack for 2012 and beyond really is. “There’s stuff in the works,” Steve Angello said. “Obviously, we always have stuff in the works .” “But there’s something that’s really close,” Axwell teased. Whether that means an album or the formal release what’s being dubbed “Inks” (which is rumored to be the new SHM single and debuted as the MSG opener on Friday), any chatter of fresh SHM tunes is certainly welcome news to their loyal following. But SHM admit they aren’t sure what form any of their releases will take. “We haven’t decided yet,” Angello admitted. “We would like to obviously present something, more of a fuller experience,” Axwell added. “[But] we still have to be together in the studio to finish it,” Angello continued. Even though “Save the World,” their remix of Coldplay’s “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” and “Antidote” have unequivocally pacified the masses, it is perfectly clear that everyone wants more. “We really are focusing on getting together and finishing stuff,” Axwell said. “We kind of cleared our schedules a bit and [are making] fairly clever decisions of when we are doing a tour — let’s rent a villa, let’s put in a studio, let’s work! Those kind of things.” Part of that focus includes parting ways with their now-legendary, Monday night gig at Pacha Ibiza, where for three years, they held residencies with The Dark Forest and most recently Masquerade Motel — both were must-sees for anyone’s visiting the Balearic shores. “This coming year we’ll probably do more shows,” Angello explained. “But it will be more spread out. Seventeen shows in Ibiza might be 17 shows around the world instead, which I would prefer now because — it’s a big world.” A world that’s actually become a lot smaller in a sense thanks in large part to SHM courting the masses into one big EDM family. In all likelihood, this coming year, the Mafia will continue charting new territories and pushing the boundaries, all the while making us smile. “You’ve seen how we work through the years,” Angello said. “It’s just growing and growing and growing — and we’re gonna grow some more — and hopefully Axwell is gonna grow a beard!” “I’m trying!” Axwell laughed “Mustache is not a problem. It’s the rest of the beard that’s a problem. It’s called a ‘model’s’ beard. I prefer to call it that. I have a model’s beard.” What tunes are you looking forward to Steve, Ax and Seb releasing? Jimmy Fallon Continues Our Top 50 2011 TV Characters

‘X Factor’ castoff Astro and ‘Dance Moms’ personality Abby Lee Miller also make MTV News’ list, counting down all week long. By MTV News staff Jimmy Fallon Photo: NBC MTV News’ Top 50 TV Characters of 2011 continues with a few must-include entries, as well as some visits from surprise guests. “X-Factor” contestant Astro makes the cut this round as does “Dance Moms” favorite Abby Lee Miller, but you might be surprised to see certain sports and talk-show personalities who yapped their way onto our Best of 2011 list. Keep reading for the latest entries to our Top 50, and make sure to check out characters 50 to 41 over here . 40. Skip Bayless (ESPN’s “First Take”) One of the nation’s most respected sportswriters, Bayless got his start at the Miami Herald, eventually rising to prominence at the Los Angeles Times and followed by his coverage of the Cowboys for the Dallas Morning News and Dallas Times Herald. Since many of you don’t have an app for those papers, you might know Bayless as the perpetual devil’s advocate on ESPN’s “First Take.” He started as a pundit on ESPN’s “Cold Pizza” in a segment called “First Take,” but thanks to his arguments with other journalists, athletes and even Lil Wayne , “Cold Pizza” evolved into “First Take.” His divisive arguments — most recently his idolatry of Tim Tebow — have garnered the ire of plenty of sports fans, and Skip couldn’t be any happier, especially since he’s right more often than they’d care to admit. -Steven Roberts 39. Victoria Grayson (“Revenge”) Imagine Blair Waldorf 30 years older and transplanted to the Hamptons, and you’ve got the central villainess of ABC’s newest guilty pleasure “Revenge.” The Queen Bee of the tony enclave, Victoria rules with an iron (not to mention, diamond-laced) fist, scheming against anyone who dares get in her way (lovers and best friends included). But Victoria’s no sociopath — fleeting flashes of guilt and sorrow betray more than a few vulnerable spots. While revenge-seeking Emily is the protagonist here, it’s Madeleine Stowe’s Victoria that steals scenes in this sudsy drama. -Amy Wilkinson 38. Marty Funkhouser (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) Funk-man had a short-yet-rewarding arc this season. He commenced his time on “Curb” with a divorce (though they “had a beautiful marriage”), delivered one of the funniest lines of the season (when he asked Richard Lewis when he plans to look at his new girlfriend’s face) and starred in what noted lawyer and academic Alan Dershowitz believes was an episode of television powerful enough to expedite peace in the Middle East — though Larry owed him such shine after leaving his dinner before dessert. -Rya Backer 37. Jimmy Fallon (“Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”) Outside of his portrayal of Barry “F—ing” Gibb on “The Barry Gibb Show,” Jimmy Fallon didn’t have the most memorable “Saturday Night Live” career. And then there was “Taxi” with Queen Latifah. So expectations weren’t necessarily high when Fallon took over “Late Night” after Conan’s all-too-brief promotion to “The Tonight Show.” But that didn’t stop Jimmy from making his show the most-talked-about the next morning either. His first move once he got the job was to hire the coolest band possible in the Legendary Roots Crew, who, along with the show’s genius music bookers, have brought us amazing performances from Beyonc

Bradley Cooper Ready To Start Filming ‘The Hangover Part III’

Actor says Todd Phillips is working on the script now. By Gil Kaufman Bradley Cooper Photo: 2011 WireImage First the good news: Bradley Cooper says that “The Hangover Part III” is in the works. The bad news: it won’t start shooting until next September. During an appearance on England’s “Graham Norton Show” to promote the DVD release of the $327 domestically million-grossing sequel, Cooper teased that a third edition of the series is in the works. “I personally want to do it. I hope we’re going to start shooting in September,” Cooper said. “I know [director] Todd Phillips is working on the script.” Norton joked that the $581 million worldwide take of the sequel — which Cooper noted is the highest-grossing comedy of all time — suggests that someone might want to greenlight the next chapter. “$581 million, I imagine someone will make that, even if it’s half as successful, it’s worth doing,” Norton laughed. Fishing around for what the subject matter might be, say, perhaps a hangover, Cooper rubbed his chin and speculated that new things might be afoot for “Part III.” “We adhered to the formula in the second one, for those of you who’ve seen it, and the third one, which would close the whole sort of trilogy, which now it would be a trilogy — even though we thought we would never make a second one, let alone anybody see the first one — I think it will take place in Los Angeles and maybe not adhere to the structure. It might be different,” he said. Phillips told reporters back in May that he was definitely down for another go ’round. “Quite honestly we really haven’t talked about it as we just finished the movie two weeks ago, this is the first time we’ve all been together in awhile,” Phillips said at a press conference. “If we were to do a third one, if the audience… if the desire was there… I think we have a clear idea where that would head and it’s certainly not in the same template you’ve seen these movies … ” Obviously we always envisioned it as a trilogy as you can imagine. The third would very much a finale and an ending. The most I could say about it and I haven’t discussed it with these actors is that it is not following that template but very much a new idea.”
