Ready to be inspired, THGers? Dylan Siegel is a seven-year old whose best friend Jonah has tragically been diagnosed with a rare illness called Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1b. It’s a live disorder that cases very low blood sugar and for which there is no cure. Jonah is one of only 500 kids in the world with the disease and he must be fed through a tube every few hours. Because Dylan describes his friendship with Jonah as “awesome as a chocolate bar,” he has written The Chocolate Bar Book, sold it across the world… and raised over $600,000 for research into the illness. Says Dr. David Weinstein of the Florida lab that is receiving these proceeds: “It is now reality. It’s not just a dream that these children can be cured.” Pretty amazing story, huh? Leah Remini is once again speaking out about her much-talked about decision to leave the Church of Scientology last summer. Why did she do it? In an interview with Buzzfeed, she cites “dozens” of factors that led to her July 2013 exit, but none as important as her 9-year-old daughter, Sofia. Leah Remini Reveals Why She Left Scientology “She was getting to the age where the acclimation into the Church would have to start,” Remini explains, referring to Scientology’s “auditing” process. That brought up memories of the actress’ own experience with the Church as a child, and how it affected her relationship with her mother, Vicki. Vicki moved the family to a Scientology compound in Clearwater, Fla., shortly before Remini’s 10th birthday, and spent a lot of time at the Church. “I started thinking of my own childhood and how I grew up resenting my mother because she was never home,” she says of that time in her life. Remini added that, “my mom thought she was doing something good; she thought she was helping the planet. That’s what the Church tells you. “In my house, it’s family first … but I was spending most of my time at the Church,” she says. “So, I was saying ‘family first,’ but I wasn’t showing that.” Leah Remini vs. Scientology “I didn’t like the message that sent my daughter.” Initially, she says, she tried to make changes “from within” the Church, but they didn’t take. “They didn’t want to,” she says of her friends in Scientology. “That showed me they didn’t actually care, which went against everything I thought we stood for. The point we’re making here is that when her daughter Sophia wants plastic surgery one day, do not expect the reality star to stand in the way. The Farrah 2: Backdoor & More star says she’s open to the idea of letting her daughter eventually go under the knife. Sophia, by the way, is FOUR. The MTV personality reveals in an interview with Radar: “I have to say, we very much believe that we are pretty. We are secure people. But if there’s something that she can’t live with, then yes go for it!” Secure is not the word we would’ve chosen, but because she’s trying not to screw up Sophia permanently, she does have one key stipulation for this. “Like myself, I waited till I was 18,” Farrah Abraham explained to the site. “If she would like to do that, she’s her own adult. And … if it’s for a real reason.” A real reason? She doesn’t elaborate there, but adds, “ I’m supportive , but I don’t think in any way shape or form she will need that. Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the legendary boss of one of the world’s most powerful drug cartels, was arrested early Saturday in Mazatlan, Mexico. The kingpin, who infamously escaped a high-security prison in a laundry cart in 2001 and had eluded capture since, was taken without a single shot fired. Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman Arrested in Mexico A U.S. law enforcement official said that Guzman, accompanied by a female, was captured in a joint operation of Mexican marines and U.S. DEA agents. The pressure on Guzman’s Sinaloa cartel had been mounting for months, with Mexican authorities killing or capturing several of its most brutal lieutenants. That pressure yielded information, including cell phone and other data, that helped Mexican authorities and U.S. drug enforcement agents track Guzman down. Mexicon Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam said authorities came close to capturing Guzman, believed to be in his mid-50s, earlier this month. Guzman apparently moved around several Mazatlan homes connected by an elaborate network of tunnels also linked to the city’s sewage system. The doors of the seven homes were reinforced with steel, enabling Guzman to escape via the tunnels before marines could break down the doors. Murillo Karam said experts had “100%” confirmation of Guzman’s identity. In the mission that brought him in, authorities also seized a weapons cache that included 97 large guns, 36 handguns, two grenade launchers and a rocket launcher. Mexican government footage (above) showed a handcuffed El Chapo Guzman , with a dark mustache, being escorted by masked marines in Mexico City. John Torres, a former ranking ICE official, told CNN that information leading to Guzman’s capture actually started to develop about five years ago. After the Arizona arrests of several people connected to the drug cartel, ICE and Homeland Security took the lead as agencies in that investigation. Phil Jordan, who spent three decades with the DEA and headed the agency’s El Paso Intelligence Center, said the arrest represents a huge blow to the cartel. “Provided he gets extradited immediately to the United States,” Jordan noted. “If he does not, then he will be allowed to escape within a period of time.” In Washington, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder called the arrest “a landmark achievement, and a victory for the citizens of both Mexico and the United States.” “Guzman was one of the world’s most wanted men and the alleged head of a drug-running empire that spans continents,” Holder said in a statement. “The criminal activity Guzman allegedly directed contributed to the death and destruction of millions across the globe through drug addiction, violence, and corruption.” A senior administration official described the arrest as “huge” and said it was “a Mexican-led operation, but one with very strong U.S. government support.”

I may dislike VICE for being pussies about their original content, that was edgy and interesting, but at the same time, succumbing to advertisers to make the billions almost makes sense…it’s just very gangster.
