In our exclusive clip from the highly anticipated ” The Avengers ,” Robert Downey Jr. , as Tony Stark, breaks down the teams for Loki ( Tom Hiddleston ), and the good guys have quite the lineup. “Your brother, the demigod. A super soldier, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend. A man with breathtaking anger-management issues. A couple of master assassins. And you, big fella, you’ve managed to piss off every single one of us,” Tony Stark says. Audiences will finally be able to see which side prevails when the long-awaited “Avengers” finally hits theaters in a few weeks, on May 4. The fight has been years in the making, with the lead-up spread over five films thus far, from the first ” Iron Man ” to ” Captain America: The First Avenger .” We know from the trailers and the clip that the fight between Loki and the Avengers will be a little more even when the time comes, but the identity of the alien “army” remains a mystery. Tom Hiddleston stopped by MTV News last year to talk about his work on “The Avengers,” and he hinted that when the secret is revealed, it will definitely please fans. “Loki has help, obviously, because if Thor could beat Loki on his own at the end of ‘Thor,’ surely why, logically, does it take eight of them to beat him this time?” Hiddleston revealed. “Also, there is an evolution to Loki as well,” he explained. “He’s more self-possessed; he’s more menacing. If the Loki in ‘Thor’ was about a spiritual confusion — ‘Who am I? Blake Mycoskie hopes to raise awareness about global poverty on Tuesday with One Day Without Shoes. By Uptin Saiidi A group marches on behalf of TOMS Shoes to raise awareness for global poverty Photo: Tom’s Shoes The guy responsible for putting thousands of pairs of shoes on needy children is now asking for a different kind of favor: Take off your shoes. On Tuesday, One Day Without Shoes encourages people to walk barefoot to raise awareness of global poverty. Whether you go barefoot for as little as 10 minutes, during your lunch break, or make it a full-day affair, Toms Shoes creator Blake Mycoskie hopes to generate buzz that will help attract aid for children in need of shoes around the world. MTV News recently caught up with Mycoskie to learn more about the campaign, which is in its fifth year. “Taking your shoes off for that one day will help create a lot of awareness, not only for what we are doing at Toms, but for what you might want to do or what someone else is doing to help in global poverty. It’s an easy way to get involved, and it’s my favorite day of the year, and it’s free!” More than 250,000 people around the world went barefoot last year in support of One Day Without Shoes. Since the company was first founded in 2006, it’s had major success with its one-for-one model, where it donates a pair of shoes to children in need for every pair purchased. The classic style of the shoe was first inspired by shoes worn by Argentine farmers for centuries, which Mycoskie observed during his travels as a contestant on “The Amazing Race.” As of last September, the company has donated more than 1 million pairs, but the success did not happen overnight. “The first year that we started Toms was this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience, because we didn’t know what we were doing and we were traveling around the world, we were begging people to buy our shoes, we were figuring out how to give them away, we had no money and were literally just in that survival mode,” Mycoskie recalled. “A couple of years ago … we were able to move into an office and have a little more of a sustainable business and see the business grow and the media accept us and the retailers, and that was really awesome.” In 2011, the company launched Toms eyewear, using a similar model of one-for-one to help children receive either medical care, prescription glasses or sight-saving surgery. As for the future of Toms Shoes, Blake has another shoe company in mind that he’d love to follow in its path. “I think that the dream is for Toms to follow in the Converse path. They have become a classic global fashion item that no matter what age you are or what country you live in, you have a pair of Chuck Taylors.” For Tuesday, though, regardless of the kinds of shoes you own, Mycoskie is hoping you leave them at home. By Akshay Bhansali Fedde Le Grand Photo: Andrew Rauner NEW YORK — Due to post-Miami-EDM fatigue, Thursday night’s Cosmic Opera Act II may have only been for New York’s super-committed dance music fans. With 1,500 or so tickets sold, though, for those in attendance, the high-concept Opera-meets-EDM party was an exceptional effort. Dubbed “Imbroglio,” the second Act of CO was set in a steampunk world, with the experience meant to evoke the fire, angst and turmoil that comes after two people first meet and fall in love. It was similar to the way that EDM and Opera did in February when Cosmic Opera debuted, featuring Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell as headliner. “There’s fire and gritty performances, and aerialists battling it out in a Thunderdome above the audience,” Cosmic Opera founder Justin Cohen told MTV News Friday (April 6). “We have this claw chandelier, it’s actually the heaviest chandelier in the world right now, and everything is moving, which goes along with that story of this is Imbroglio Act II. And now things are getting a bit crazier.” And crazier it did get, but in a uncontrived, cool way. Fire-wielding performers spit flames around the Opera’s organ-like DJ booth and stage-flanking runways. A unique 360-degree laser was featured in a spectacular light display. “Eyes Wide Shut”-esque masked performer couples ambled about the crowds, shifting from infatuation to clash and back. Forty-foot-high LED screens moved forward and backward, and the chandelier claw would descend down into the audience lined with lights. And Cohen and his team tapped a talent pool certainly capable of bringing an angsty, aggressive, hard-hitting audio experience to New York both nights in dBerrie, Funkagenda, Felix Cartal , Zedd and headliner Fedde Le Grand . Rising star Zedd continues to dazzle, and it’s worth noting that for being a nice, young, smallish (in size up there onstage) guy, he continues to lay down among the more explosive sets in dance music. And Thursday night was no exception. The venue’s six LED screens depicted flames, and five dancers in white wigs and silver attire hit the stages’ runways for Zedd’s Opera entrance number, with Zedd signaling with his hands, “Let’s do this.” And with that, his onslaught began: Fans chanted back Angger Dimas & Bassjackers’ “Ria.” Giant lengths of steam shot out into the crowd for Dada Life’s “Kick Out the Epic Motherf—er,” and the audience seemed in a frenzy for Knife Party’s whopping “Internet Friends.” After an electric set ended with a new song, and Zedd’s new mash-up of “Slam the Door” and buddy Skrillex’s “Cinema” (Zedd revealed to MTV News he calls it “Don’t Slam the Cinema”), he handed the baton over, literally via a performer, to Dutch house music star Fedde Le Grand , who headlined both nights of COII. A sumptuous violin solo performance led into Le Grand’s headlining organ-DJ booth, steam-punked out with pipes and a baritone saxophone. And then FLG began his set with a hearty remix of his hit “So Much Love” and followed with room-shaking hit after hit. Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close,” Steve Angello’s “Knas,” Benny Benassi’s “House Music” and Arty’s “Around the World” were all part of his arsenal. But so were some stellar reworks. Steam shots drove the crowd mental when FLG dropped opening performer dBerrie’s remix of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.” An unknown bootleg of OneRepublic’s “Apologize” was masterful, as was a provocative “Leave the World Behind” vs. Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams.” After Fedde Le Grand’s two-hour closing set and a three-hour production breakdown, Cohen and his team readied Friday night’s final showing of Cosmic Opera Act II, which will see the Felix Cartal join in the festivities. ‘Pauly D Project’ star tells MTV News he is taking his time with debut album because he ‘really wants it to be great.’ By John Mitchell 50 Cent and Pauly D Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Pauly D is hard at work, making the kind of bold career moves that should help him keep his star status strong long after his days in Seaside Heights are behind him. The “Jersey Shore” breakout has been cataloging his exploits on his new spin-off, “The Pauly D Project,” which follows the star as he travels the world with his crew as an in-demand DJ and continues to pursue a recording career. Pauly signed with 50 Cent’s G-Note record label late last year and reportedly got right to work. “I’m focusing on music. That’s my passion,” Pauly said at the time. “I’m working with 50 Cent now. I’m gonna do an album with him. It’s going to be a little bit of everything. It’s almost like DJ Khaled and kind of David Guetta, but my own DJ Pauly D style.” So how is the album coming along? Apparently, quite well. “G-Unit’s going great. I’m working heavily on my album right now, trying to lock down some producers, some artists,” Pauly told MTV News. “I’m taking my time with it. I really want it to be great. I want the album to show my personality, just like my DJing does.” Pauly had nothing but praise for label boss 50 Cent, saying, “50’s a beast, man. He’s so smart when it comes to business, and he’s so talented. Him and I just clicked the second we met, so it was great.” The feeling, it seems, is mutual. While talking to MTV News in NYC late last month, 50 had nothing but good things to say about Pauly and his new show. “Well, Pauly D’s show is gonna be as — I don’t want to say more exciting than ‘Jersey Shore’ — I’ll say as exciting as ‘Jersey Shore’ to maintain the audience that ‘Jersey Shore’ had by itself,” 50 said. “He has a lot going on right now, and they’ll get a chance to go into his world, as far as his DJing and a lot of things he’s actually doing.” The “Pauly D Project” airs Thursday at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT. It follows the new season of “Punk’d,” which is set to include appearances from superstars like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato.
