‘Last Airbender’ Clip Premieres On MTV Movie Awards

Footage, featuring Nicola Peltz and Jackson Rathbone, promises spectacular set-up for M. Night Shyamalan adaptation. By Todd Gilchrist Dev Patel in “The Last Airbender” Photo: Paramount Pictures Last year, M. Night Shyamalan took the helm of “The Last Airbender,” a live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s popular animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” and a new clip from the film premiered on tonight’s MTV Movie Awards. While it remains to be seen whether the film will feature one of the writer/ director’s trademark twist endings, the footage fans are seeing promises nothing short of a spectacular set-up for an epic franchise. The clip opens with a shot of Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (“Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone) as they trudge through a snowy landscape. The pair emerges onto a frozen lake where something lurks ominously beneath them in the water below. After Sokka strikes the ice, a ball rises before them and a bolt of energy erupts from the top of it. Although it’s not entirely clear whether the Airbender himself pops out of that big ball of icy energy, as he lands center screen, a disembodied voice tells him, “Airbender, only you have the power to master all of the elements and save us all.” While such an observation would certainly offer anyone else an unwanted amount of pressure, Airbender promptly responds by kicking the tar out of seemingly everyone in his path, using the four elements — air, water, fire and earth — to dispatch adversaries and generally look like a total badass. And when those elements don’t do the job, Airbender’s got a freaking spear just for added measure. Of course, you’ll have to see if Airbender is truly the last of his kind, and perhaps more importantly, if he is the last man standing, when the movie arrives in theaters on July 2. But in the meantime, check out everything MTV has on “The Last Airbender,” as well as a lot of other new movies coming to theaters soon! Shia LaBeouf Admits He Didn’t Like ‘Indiana Jones’ Sequel

‘I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved,’ actor says, days after dissing ‘Transformers’ sequel. By Adam Rosenberg Shia LaBeouf at the “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” photocall at Cannes on Friday Photo: Lorenzo Santini/FilmMagic Were you one of the many “Indiana Jones” fans left disappointed by the 2008 outing “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”? You’re not alone: Star Shia LaBeouf counts himself among the haters. The actor, who only last week told gathered reporters at the Cannes Film Festival that he “wasn’t impressed” with last summer’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” made some equally frank statements over the weekend about his contribution to the Harrison Ford-starring action/adventure series. “I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished,” he said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “You get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on Steven [Spielberg, who directed]. But the actor’s job is to make it come alive and make it work, and I couldn’t do it. So that’s my fault. Simple.” Perhaps most refreshing about the actor’s comments is his respect for the audience. LaBeouf is aware of the perception that’s out there and he’s not afraid to address it directly. “I think the audience is pretty intelligent. I think they know when you’ve made [crap],” he said. “And I think if you don’t acknowledge it, then why do they trust you the next time you’re promoting a movie?” It’s an unusual display of honesty in an industry that is typically driven by studios and publicists fighting hard to control their message. “I’ll probably get a call,” LaBeouf said. “But [Spielberg] needs to hear this. I love him. I love Steven. I have a relationship with Steven that supersedes our business work. And believe me, I talk to him often enough to know that I’m not out of line. And I would never disrespect the man. I think he’s a genius, and he’s given me my whole life. He’s done so much great work that there’s no need for him to feel vulnerable about one film. But when you drop the ball you drop the ball.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Eminem Is ‘Hands-On’ During Recovery Sessions, Just Blaze Says

First single, ‘Not Afraid,’ premieres Thursday morning on Em’s Shade 45 satellite-radio station. By Jayson Rodriguez Enimem Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Eminem is set to begin his Recovery on Thursday when he premieres “Not Afraid,” the first single from his follow-up to last year’s comeback project Relapse. Recovery is set for a June 22 release , the rapper recently announced via Twitter. The album is Eminem’s first substantial body of work with producers other than Dr. Dre, including Jim Jonsin, Drake collaborator Boi-1da and Just Blaze. Just Blaze spoke to Vibe about the project, which he’s still working on, and praised Em’s contribution to each song. “I have a few more songs that I have to finish mixing,” the producer said. “It’s a great experience working with him; he’s such a hands-on artist. … Most artists come in and rap, and the rest is up to you. It’s good to collaborate with someone on the other end of the spectrum.” Just Blaze has been coy about the work he’s down with the Detroit lyricist, but late last year, he admitted that the album, originally slated to be called Relapse 2, was more emotionally driven. Relapse, Eminem’s first release in years, was shaped more by the rapper’s shock rap and fighting his writer’s block brought on by depression and drug dependency. The rapper’s manager, Paul Rosenberg, spoke to Billboard on Wednesday (April 28) and said “Not Afraid” would be uplifting and not a takedown single like Eminem’s past lead efforts. “Not Afraid” is set to debut Thursday morning on Eminem’s Shade 45 satellite-radio station. China’s Censorship: Sensitive Words

The Chinese author Han Han wrote a blog post announcing, “Other Chinese nominees include sensitive word, sensitive word and sensitive word.” It sounded like a joke, but one that Han’s huge fan base would immediately get. “Sensitive word” was a back stab at China’s web censors’ habit of sometime blocking common place such as blog posts and Web searches. Within a few weeks, his post created more than 25,000 comments, and almost all of the posts are in favor of the writer, only just a few who opposed are irritable about the state of online freedom in China. Some critics in China regarding the censorship forecasted that the information will inescapably dodge efforts to prevent it. There are acceptable reasons why the Chinese government applied limited access to the internet to abolish abhorrent discussions such as independence drives in the regions of Tibet and Xiangjiang and the banned religious movement call Falun Gong. There are tens of thousands of censors adapted by the Chinese government; restricting access to information both at home and abroad is a very difficult. Each work is screened by workers from large Web portals who take care of blocking contents which are inappropriate to the standards given by the Chinese government. This is popularly known as the “Great Firewall of China,” which authorities blocks access to overseas Web pages deemed offensive and secure domestic sites. Regardless of those restrictions, the internet in China rolls with debate over current events. China now has estimated 384 internet users, greater than the total population of the U.S. China’s Censorship: Sensitive Words is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading
