Lena Dunham covers the latest issue of Vogue , marking the first time this writer/producer/actress has graced the front of a national fashion magazine. Cause for celebration, right? Or cause for celebration, according to some. In an attempt to defend Dunham as “a woman who trumpets body positivity, Jezelbel paid $10,000 to Vogue for the star’s untouched images from her new spread. The website received them… and then printed a couple of the photos in order to depict just how the publication edited Dunham’s eyes, chin, cleavage and other areas. To wit: In the end, writs Jezebel, Dunham’s pics “were not drastically altered,” but “it’s important to remember how unforgiving the media is when it comes to images of women.” It adds: “Men are generally allowed to have pores and wrinkles; women are supposed to be “perfect” — a state that does not exist.” Mother Jones’ co-editor Clara Jeffery, meanwhile, wrote on Twitter: “If [Lena]’s given us an image of a real woman on Girls, and they altered — perhaps without her consent, isn’t that a paradox that should be explored?” Not according to Dunham herself. Her Twitter take on the whole ordeal? Some shit is too ridiculous to engage. Let’s use our energy wisely, 2014. In other words: go watch Girls online and relax, folks.

SNL is adding a lot of color to its staff … SNL Adds Black Female Writers To Staff Via Dallas Black reports: Hot on the heels of the news that “Saturday Night Live” will hire their first Black comedienne in 5 years, the sketch comedy show will also add two Black women to their writer’s room, according to The Hollywood Reporter. LaKendra Tookes (left) and Leslie Jones, were discovered during the show’s recent secret auditions in New York and Los Angeles, held specifically to cast Black women, after the show drew criticism that it’s cast lacked diversity (because, really, that was enough of Kenan Thompson playing every. single. Black. woman in sketches). While Tookes and Jones were passed over for the acting role that eventually went to Sasheer Zamata, their new appointments are undeniably just as important. The show seriously needed a shakeup in point of view in that writer’s room or else the sketches would’ve been more of the same anyway. Even the funniest actor or comedian can only do so much with dry material (Exhibit A: Kevin Hart’s widely panned appearance on the show back in March 2013)! Actress-comedian Tookes, is a former news reporter from Florida who has performed at iOWest (watch her character reel here). While Jones is an actress (“The League” and “Sullivan & Son”) and stand-up comedian who has performed at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles as well as written for and appeared on “Def Comedy Jam” and “1st Amendment Stand Up.” In 2010 she starred in a comedy special “Problem Child” was broadcast on Showtime. I’m excited to see Black women working in entertainment, especially on a show that’s known for launching huge and lasting careers in the past. But to be honest, I’m still not sure how I feel about SNL’s antics. That it took a national outcry for them to go through binders full of Black women and fit these limited spots…five years after having a Black woman on the show? Hmm…. But there’s more incentive than ever to tune into the show this month. Tookes and Jones start work next Monday, to write for the first episode that Zamata will also make her appearance in, January 18th. As we previously reported, Drake will host that episode. Will you be watching January 18th?

This is so mean. Autistic Boy Gets Hateful Letter According to Mail Online A Canadian family are reeling after a stranger sent them a letter telling them to euthanize their severely autistic son. During the summer, 13-year-old Max Begley spends his mornings with his grandmother Brenda Millson in Newcastle. She says she was shaking after receiving a letter Friday from an anonymous neighbor complaining that the noise Max makes outside is ‘DREADFUL!’ and that it ‘scares the hell out of my normal children!’ Mrs Millson shared the whole letter with CityNewsToronto. Signed off ‘one pissed off mother’ the woman goes on to say that the noises Max makes are not appropriate for the neighborhood. ‘Crying babies, music and even barking dogs are normal sounds in a residential neighborhood! He is not!’ The woman’s deranged letter goes beyond the offensive noise complaint into even more repugnant territory, writing that Max is a ‘hindrance’. ‘Who the hell is going to care for him? No employer will ever hire him, no normal girl is going to marry/love him and you are not going to live forever!’ Then she recommends something truly atrocious. ‘Personally, they should take whatever non mentally challenged body parts he possesses and donate it to science. What the hell else good is he to anyone!’ ‘Do the right thing and move or euthanize him! Either way, we are ALL better off.’ ‘Who says that about a child?’ Max’s mother Karla Begley asked City News. She started to cry as she explained that her secondary progressive multiple sclerosis keeps her from walking and running with her son. Since learning about the letter, neighbors of Max’s grandmother have come out in a public display of support for the boy in an attempt to out the letter’s author. Max’s father is worried that the letter might lead to violence against his son. ‘A person that’s that crazy or demented who would fabricate something like that…it leads me to believe that they’re very dangerous,’ Jim Begley said, ‘and right now I’m scared for my son’s safety. If the writer is identified, Max’s family plans to press charges. They should definitely press charges. Nobody should say that to an autistic 13-year-old child. Alec Baldwin going off on a reporter is not unusual. It’s become more of a norm for this actor than hosting Saturday Night Live . But Baldwin took his rage to a disturbing extreme last week when he blasted Daily Mail reporter George Stark for allegations the writer made about Baldwin’s wife. The Emmy winner has since apologized for the homophobic nature of his remarks, but Anderson Cooper has still raised an interesting question regarding Baldwin, an outspoken liberal. “Why does#AlecBaldwin get a pass when he uses gay slurs?” the openly gay anchor wondered on Twitter. “If a conservative talked of beating up a ‘queen’ they would be vilified.” Cooper then re-Tweeted a message from CNN producer Steve Krakauer, who quoted the excerpts of Baldwin’s tirade that read: ”[I’d] put my foot up your f**king ass, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much.” What does that mean, Alec? both Krakauer and Cooper asked. No direct response yet from the star, but what do you think of Baldwin’s Twitter rant? It was deserved! It was homophobic! Dude has problems. View Poll »
