#SayHerName Sandra Bland’s Family Awarded $1.9 Million In Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Justice??? Sandra Bland’s Family Settles Wrongful Death Suit The family of Sandra Bland will be awarded $1.9 million for the Texas woman’s death. Furthermore any legislation passed which benefits Waller County must be named after Bland. The New York Daily News reports: The family of Sandra Bland, the woman who died in a Texas jail after her controversial arrest, has settled a wrongful death lawsuit for $1.9 million, an attorney said. The family’s lawyer told ABC13 Thursday the civil suit has been settled, and the jail where Bland died will pay the bulk of it. The Waller County jail is on the hook for $1.8 million of the settlement, the attorney said. The Texas Department of Public Safety will pay $100,000 — the maximum amount allowed under state law. The case was scheduled to go to a jury trial in January 2017. Bland, 28, died in the jail in July 2015, days after her arrest after a traffic stop. A medical examiner, as well as the FBI, said she committed suicide by asphyxiating herself with a plastic garbage bag behind bars. But Bland’s family has said she may have been murdered, and would not have killed herself. No investigation has substantiated their claim. Is $1.9 million a fair settlement for Sandra Bland’s family??? It will never bring her back, but hopefully the settlement and the changes to the jail where she died brings them some comfort.

Katherine Jackson Appeals Decision In Michael Jackson’s Wrongful Death Trial

Katherine just won’t give up. Katherine Jackson Appeals Decision In Wrongful Death Case Trying to appeal this case and dealing with Conrad Murray’s release may prove too much for Katherine. According to Spin: Katherine Jackson is seeking an appeal in the wrongful death trial that declared concert promoter AEG not liable in the early demise of her son, Michael Jackson. The initial charge was that the company had hired Dr. Conrad Murray — recently released after serving two years behind bars for involuntary manslaughter — with the knowledge that the physician was incompetent. After a long and complicated trial, a jury decided AEG did nothing wrong. They declared that Murray was perfectly fit to do his job, though we’re still not convinced he’s a good candidate for a reality television show. While Jackson certainly died by the man’s negligent hand (this having been proven in a court of law), and certain higher-ups at AEG displayed some disgusting behavior in dealing with the King of Pop (pushing Jackson despite his flagging health, referring to him as “the freak”), the matter appeared to be settled. Katherine Jackson’s latest move is being alternately criticized as a money-grab and praised as an attempt to seek justice. Regardless, there was $40 billion on the table on the last go-around Do you agree that AEG needs to pay up? EPA

Michael Jackson’s Family: NOT HAPPY With Wrongful Death Verdict

Michael Jackson’s family is disappointed. What transpired in court Wednesday, when a jury found that AEG Live was not liable for his death, is beyond them. Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Trial Verdict “We think this was a very important case to bring for a lot of reasons,” Kevin Boyle, a lawyer for Katherine Jackson, told reporters after the verdict. “We think what we’ve done with this case is proved some things that are important for the Jackson family, for the concert industry and the sports industry.” “With regard to treatment by doctors,” Boyle said, the family proved its point, however. “We, of course, are not happy with the result as it stands now.” “We will be exploring all options legally and factually,” he added. A jury in the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial decided that AEG Live was not responsible for Jackson’s 2009 death of acute propofol intoxication. Despite having hired the man who administered the fatal dose, Dr. Conrad Murray , AEG won and the family’s quest for billions in damages was denied. If the jury had been asked to determine what was “ethical” and what wasn’t when it came to Jackson’s final days, the verdict may have been different. But they weren’t, so the six men and six women who listened to five months of testimony found that the concert promoter was not criminally negligent. “This was a difficult decision for us to make. It wasn’t easy for anyone,” jury foreman Gregg Barden told reporters outside the courthouse after the verdict. “Conrad Murray was hired to be a general practitioner,” he said, explaining the decision. “We thought he was competent to be a general practitioner.” “That doesn’t mean we thought [Murray] was ethical. If the word ‘ethical’ was involved in the question, then there might have been a different outcome.” Juror No. 9, Kevin Smith, said it was evident that AEG, despite having hired Murray to care for Jackson, ” had no idea what was going on behind closed doors.” “If they knew, it would have made a world of difference,” he said. “All along we saw the same pattern, that no one could go upstairs. How could AEG do anything about it if they didn’t know what was going on?” “No one could say no to Michael Jackson or they would have been out.” AEG Live VP Shawn Trell was “very pleased with the result” and attorney Marvin Putnam said they never considered trying to settle out of court. “There was never, ever, ever any chance AEG would ever consider settling this matter because that would have been wrong…No one wins here,” he added. “But the unfortunate tragedy wasn’t of AEG’s making.” Do you agree? Tell us: Was justice served?   Yes. What happened is all on MJ and/or Dr. Murray. No. AEG knew about Murray and pushed MJ too hard! View Poll »

Randy Jackson Questions Need For Paris Jackson Hospitalization, Debbie Rowe Livid

Randy Jackson feels his niece, Paris Jackson, may be unreasonably confined in a psychiatric hospital, but her mother, Debbie Rowe , has a different take on it. Rowe hit back after Jackson weighed in on Twitter, writing about Paris. He wrote, “I just hate the fact that [Paris] will probably still be there, away from her family, on my brother’s birthday.” Randy adds, “She is not psychotic.”  “There is no reason for her to be in a psychiatric hospital this long.” Debbie Rowe is livid at Randy, who she says has no clue what he’s even talking about, and that Paris is not in a psychiatric hospital a la Amanda Bynes . “As usual, he’s grossly misinformed,” she is quoted as saying of her former brother-in-law. “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He has no idea where she is. “She’s not in a psychiatric hospital.” Rowe believes Randy Jackson is just bitter because no one wants him to testify in Michael Jackson’s wrongful death trial … because he’s irrelevant. Ouch.

Dr. Conrad Murray Today Interview: Don’t Blame Me!

Dr. Conrad Murray is – again – proclaiming innocence when it comes to the death of Michael Jackson, telling Today in a phone interview that he’s not to blame. Murray also says he hopes to practice medicine again some day. Even if he can legally pull that off, we can’t exactly envision the patients lining up … Conrad Murray on Today Speaking with the NBC morning show, Murray did say that he’s sorry Michael Jackson died, but he still says he is in no way responsible for his death. Murray is sticking to his story, which did not play well with a jury in his manslaughter trial, that Michael Jackson killed himself with a fatal dose of Propofol. Conrad is also potentially a key figure in the MJ wrongful death suit , though he has insisted he wants no part of that when it comes to either side. The doc, who’s serving a four-year prison term, says he did not appeal it to shorten his sentence – though he would no doubt take it – but for another reason: So he can restore his medical license and see patients again. Again … we’re all for second chances and all, but … no.

News, the 17-year old is asked if she would ever model for Victoria’s Secret and makes it very clear that nothing would please her more. “It’s always been kind of a dream of mine,” Kendall said . “It’s something I’d love to do.” We’re guessing Jenner will get the opportunity at some point, considering the brand name she’d be bringing to the lingerie company. But perhaps we can wait until she’s no longer a teenager to discuss it. Come on, people! Jenner, to her credit, has made it clear that she has no interest in a spinoff reality show of her own. She’s all about modeling these days and building an actual career for herself.
