The convention for The National Association of Black Journalists or NABJ kicks off every year for journalists, students, and media-related professionals. There, folks learn firsthand key strategies in media, socialize professionally, and seek career opportunities. This year it took place in sunny & humid Miami, Florida. Source: @AieshaArab / IG The workshop was hosted by BOSSIP’s deputy editor Danielle Canada who emceed a panel of our viral headline experts on staff, including senior editor Jennifer H. Cunningham, Aiesha Letman (myself), Jason Lee and, Alex Ford. Bruce Wright, managing editor of our fellow Interactive One site News One was also there to assist. In the workshop, our writers were asked the FAQs behind the manufacturing of a standout headline, regardless of the voice of the publication. Attendees learned about the importance of headline writing as it pertains to ideation and creating viral moments. And…when is a headline too far? Jason Lee was there to assist with the latter. Of course, this question was directed at our site, specifically. So, how do we not “cross the line”? What is offensive or ‘racist’ to white folks? Jason says, ‘As far as (mayo), aioli and those sort of things…if white people are offended by certain things, then that’s fine but the dynamic is different. We are a Black site, we are Black people, normally we’re the oppressed people. So, if the worst you have to deal is being called a ‘mayo-packet’ behind somebody who did something racist, something stupid, then in my mind, you kinda have to chalk that.’ New One’s Bruce Wright had an important point to add, saying: ‘I don’t think we should only single out Black media for doing what the original media created and is still doing on now.’ Alex Ford probably in one short sentence gave the crux of what you need to create a viral moment. ‘We’re not just writing these headlines for you to just see them and laugh. If you read some of the posts, their actually well-written, comedically. Also, your use of language. Find that one word that represents what you’re trying to say. Word choice is important. ‘ BOSSIP is proud to be a completely unique voice at the intersection of Black culture, entertainment, and political-awareness. When we see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appearing at royal engagements and glad-handing with the peasants, the couple is all smiles. But according to a new report from Radar Online, the couple’s demeanor is decidedly different behind closed doors. Yes, it’s been over a year since Meghan and Harry got married , which means it’s time for breathless accounts from anonymous sources about how “the honeymoon period is over! ” “At first the sheer excitement and awe of being part of the most famous family in the world is amazing,” a supposed insider tells Radar. “Every time you turn a corner you see another amazing person or building that isn’t just famous but is also historic,” the source adds. “It is like falling in love in the mansion of The Bachelor , far away from your daily worries of real life. “But soon reality kicks in and it isn’t quite as exciting. That is where Meghan and Harry are now.” Did … did he just compare marrying into the British Royal Family to making it to the finals on a trashy reality show? That’s like saying winning the Super Bowl is like earning the top prize at your local strip club’s twerking contest. Anyway, according to the source, the bloom is off the rose and whatnot, as Meghan is beginning to feel trapped by the pressures and constant obligations of life as a duchess. “After the initial excitement rubbed off Meghan has found herself mostly alone, stuck behind the Palace walls. It is incredibly isolating to be part of this family,” the insider says. “They don’t leave the house very much and don’t allow many outsiders inside the family.” The source adds: “The honeymoon is 100% over. It might look like a great life to all of us, but in reality, it’s like being in golden handcuffs.” There are two schools of thought on this situation: Some might be inclined to focus on the fact that America is a bit of a toilet fire at the moment, and it’s tough to feel sympathy for anyone who crossed the pond for a life of unimaginable wealth and luxury. The other holds that Meghan has entered a world where a bad curtsy is the stuff of national scandal, and that her fishbowl experience might be uniquely hellish on a day-to-day level. Anyway, this would be the part of the fairy tale where the discontented princess switches lives with some pauper, but we’re pretty sure that’s a tough maneuver to execute in 2019. Besides, it would be pretty obvious that Meg had returned to her old life when she started popping up on episodes of Suits . In any event, we hope that Harry is doing everything he can to make life easier for Meg during this difficult time. It’s bad enough that Samantha Markle and most of the rest of her relatives are absolutely horrendous people. She doesn’t need to feel trapped by awful in-laws, too. Wendy Williams Admits Knowing About Kevin Hunter’s Infidelity Wendy Williams is speaking candidly on her divorce and admitting to knowing something was amiss in her marriage. The talk show host was a guest on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy and she told her buddy Andy Cohen that she chose to stay with dirty doggin’ Kevin Hunter because of her son. According to Wendy, she stayed with Kevin so that Kevin Jr.’s life wouldn’t be uprooted. Now that he’s away in college, she has more freedom. “I had to get my ducks in a row. I knew a lot of things for years,” she said, “but my son was at home. It wasn’t fair to him. I’m not going grab his hand and flee the scenes and move zip codes. Now he has to move high schools and stuff like that — he’s just making friends. Now he’s away in college, and the person I am now is very single because he’s not living with me. He goes to school in Miami.” She also admitted that when those damning Daily Mail photos came out of Kevin and his alleged mistress Sharina Hudson, she already had pics of her own and would’ve left him regardless. She also added that she drew the line at Kevin fathering the woman’s baby. “I can take a lot,” she said, “but I’m not raising a family.” When Cohen pressed if she “would still be in it,” Williams replied, “My marriage?” and asked, “Are you out of your mind?” “No, dear, no. As spotted on Complex the Virginia native spoke to Joe Budden during the latest edition of The Joe Budden Podcast . Jumpoff wasted no time in getting him to discuss the memorable feature. While the “Drug Dealers Anonymous” rapper didn’t confirm he was taking shots at Drake or Lil Wayne, his answers let us know that he is still about the “if the shoe fits” life. When asked “why did you do that to this verse that’s not out?” he responded “that’s what we in it for man, we here to rap, bro”. “We all have to do what we do best, the next guy got to do what he does best,” he added. “At this stage of my career, you know, I mean… hey man, hey,” he chuckled. On Monday morning, just several hours after exchanging vows with Ashley Iaconetti — in front of friends, family members and loved ones in Rhode Island — Jared Haibon jumped on Instagram and gushed over his brand new wife. And we mean he GUSHED over her. “There’s so many emotions running through my body right now,” Jared wrote on Instagram alongside a photo from his wedding day. He continued in equally sentimental fashion: “I woke up yesterday morning, the day of my wedding, crying. Not from sadness, or fear. I was crying because I was so overwhelmed with happiness, excitement, gratefulness and humbleness. “Ashley is my best friend, my person, my soulmate and now my wife. I love this woman more than words will ever allow me to express.” Ashley and Jared starred together on Bachelor in Paradise Season 2 and got engaged on Bachelor in Paradise Season 5. In between, they dated on and off until Jared admits he got a “kick in the ass” by seeing Ashley in a serious relationship with someone else. At that point, in early 2018, the pair got serious and then got engaged a few months later. Elsewhere, American Idol’s David Cook actually perform “Ever the Same” for the couple’s first dance, just like he did at our wedding. Just kidding. The DJ played a lot of Disney songs, musical soundtracks and Backstreet Boys—the music was very Ashley,” an E! source says, adding: “There was a lot of dancing and it went pretty late but a bunch of people continued partying afterward… “Ashley was a glowing gorgeous bride. She was so happy all night. You could tell they both were so happy.” What else do we know about the big day? The bride and groom exchanged Neil Lane wedding bands — and Dunkin’ Donuts even teamed with Banga Portrait Studio to provide custom edible photo donuts as an extra-special treat. How fun!
