Brandon Lee says his production was lifted for the track without his permission, and he’s named both X and Cardi B in a lawsuit. TMZ breaks it down : Record producer Brandon Lee says he wrote a song called “gwenXdonlee4-142” and it was incorporated into a song called “Broad Day.” After the release of “Broad Day,” Lee says Cardi B and Lil Nas X released “Rodeo” this past June. … Lee says in his lawsuit, they’re both built on a 4-measure phrase outlining the cord progression E, F, G, F, E. He also says the tempo is the same, both songs utilize guitar and wind instruments, the drumbeats are the same, the chord progression is similar … among other things. Source: Boston Globe / Getty Teacher Suspended For Disparaging Comments About The Confederate Flag A secondary school teacher in Georgia was suspended for referring to the confederate flag as a sign that an individual plans to marry their own sister. I meaaaaaan…..some points were made. The Richmond County School System ended up launching an investigation after said teacher put a photo of the confederate flag on their board with a message that stated: “A sticker you put on the back of your pickup truck to announce that you intend to marry your sister. Think of it like a white trash ‘Save the Date’ card.” One of their students at Hephzibah High School ended up being upset by the message, so she told her mother about the whole thing. The student’s mother, Melissa Fuller, voiced her anger about the matter in a post on Facebook, which is where it was widely circulated and prompted discussion from other parents at the school along with local residents. “A lot of [the discussion] is that it’s not morally correct. It’s unethical. It’s just something you don’t want to discuss today in today’s world and especially inside of a classroom,” the mother told WRDW-TV . Fuller added that her daughter had been suspended after wearing a belt that features a Confederate flag buckle to school after being asked to remove the belt. “If she can’t wear that belt buckle, then why is it appropriate to make an assignment out of it?” she asked. Now, the teacher in question has been placed on administrative leave, according to the Augusta Chronicle . The school district told the outlet, “The Richmond County School System is committed to creating a diverse, equitable learning environment for all students. The language used in the example was unacceptable and has no place in our classrooms.” While some insist that the Confederate flag–first used during the American Civil War– simply serves as a major source for Southern pride, it’s extremely offensive to many who argue that the symbol is synonymous with white supremacy, bigotry, slavery, racism, etc. Now, the flag is regularly used by neo-nazis throughout the United States.

Williams . The Howard University graduate launched the investment bank in 1994. Since its inception, the full-service investment firm has held high rankings in tax-exempt securities and taxable securities and has received several awards for their work in the financial space. The company has served over 65 businesses that are Fortune 100 companies. Siebert Cisneros Shank & Co. LLC was founded in 1996 and is led by Georgia native Suzanne Shank . She’s the only Black woman to run a Wall Street firm. Her company has served as the lead manager for over 200 financings equating to $30 billion. The new firm—dubbed Siebert Williams Shank & Co.—will be overseen by Shank and Williams will take on the position of chairman. Former United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros will serve as vice president. Both Williams and Shank believe that the partnership will strengthen their position amongst other Wall Street firms. “By bringing together two first-class firms, we will accelerate our collective success and greatly enhance our ability to serve our clients using a strong capital base that is now significantly larger,” Shank said in a statement . “We are creating the #1 ranked MWBE investment banking firm in the country that will continue to compete with the best firms on Wall Street. Williams was the only firm with the capabilities, talent, and integrity in the corporate underwriting space that we felt expanded our franchise and matched our work-ethic and high-standards of performance, and now, we have created a truly historic firm.” Williams says he’s excited about “playing a key role in leading and driving the growth of this dynamic organization” and is ready to “execute a shared vision of growth with laser focus on risk management, operations, and regulatory compliance.” The official merge is slated to be completed by January 2020 and there will be offices located in New York, Oakland, and other cities. B lack women are making historic moves in the realm of entrepreneurship. According to Atlanta Black Star , Dr. Venaya Jones recently opened the first veterinary clinic in Cleveland to be owned and operated by an African American woman. The facility offers a wide spectrum of services including diagnostic exams, dermatology, wellness visits, and hospice care. Dr. Jones—who discovered her passion for helping animals at a young age—says she wants to utilize the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic as an avenue to push animal health care forward and establish the clinic as a go-to veterinary facility in Cleveland. “I feel like it’s a great opportunity here in Cleveland, especially there being no other vet hospitals here,” she said in a statement. “There are tons of people with pets, we’re in the health tech corridor. I mean, this is where quality medicine is discovered and done, and I want to be a part of that.” For the Western University College of Veterinary Medicine graduate, opening up the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic was about more than her passion for animal health care; its about representation. Dr. Jones hopes her journey will inspire Black youth to pursue careers in veterinary medicine. She mentors youth and other women of color who are interested in stepping into the field. “I’m hoping to uplift the community both physically and emotionally, health wise by taking care of their pets, but … also bringing a sense of pride and a sense of accomplishment,” she said. “I want to be able to show other [young minorities] that they can do it, anything that they dream of, because here is a Black woman that’s come into this community and made it happen.” Black entrepreneurs are breaking barriers in the medical field.
