As the producer behind “Lick,” “Bodak Yellow,” “Money Bag,” “I Like It” and her latest offering “Money,” JWhite has assisted Cardi in growing her credibility as an artist—in July, Billboard reported that Cardi is the first female rapper to earn two Billboard Hot 100 no. 1 records with “I Like It” and “Bodak Yellow.” Swish! In our interview the Kansas City producer talks all about watching Cardi progress . He also gets into why “Bodak Yellow” became the hit that it did, how her team decided to do a Spanish record, opening more doors for Latin music, and compares Cardi B’s success to that of a young 50 Cent. Get into it. On Cardi Honing Her Craft & Taking The Reigns “How I came in, I was a producer and Cardi was working on the mixtape and just trying to get records. I know as a producer we lead the show, so it was more like ‘Ok Cardi, we gonna do this, we gonna do that.’ But now, over the years she has developed an ear for what she likes and I think that’s dope for anybody to grow—and she’s been growing rapidly, as we all can see. I’m proud of her.” On “Bodak Yellow” & Why It Was Such A Big Hit “Timing, to be honest. None of us knew that it would be a hit record, we just knew that it was different and it was hard and it just felt good. You could hear the frustrations in Cardi’s voice, you could hear the hunger…and I think a lot of people at the time felt that.” When asked if the goal was to make a classic NY record, specifically, he added “No the goal was to, in my head, get a song that’s bigger than ‘Lick.’ ‘Lick’ was doing OK for the streets, but I know Cardi wanted that song on the radio. My job as a producer, and her team at the time, was to help give her that record. That was the goal, really.” “Honestly I thought ‘Bodak Yellow’…was [only] going to get us to another record. I didn’t think number one… ’cause it’s a weird record,” he said. “She’s from the Bronx and I’m from Kansas City and I think that mashup of sound…felt good for everybody and I think that’s why it worked. Cardi was something new, a breath of fresh air to this industry. I don’t know what record, I don’t know what song…but she needs a Latin record, but trapped out. It needs to have that ‘Bodak’ feel, or it needs to have an urban feel to it. We need to flip the song.’ So, that’s how that happened. I went to his house and he played me a lot of records—literally.” JWhite said Kallman played him so many records that he eventually started to doze off. “He’s playing me each Spanish record and…all I hear is ‘Yeaaaah baby!’ and I was like ‘That’s the one.’ The Pete Rodriguez joint, it woke me up because it was already a classic record. It’s hard to do but, we made another classic out of an already classic record, which is crazy. Everybody was a part of that record, because man it was work! On the production end…going through the sample, chopping it up the right way, just making it seem simple. But it paid off to get another number one. Later in our chat, he said the record “will open more doors for Latin music.” “It’s crazy hearing all these new records that have the Latin influence,” he adds. On Cardi B Saying She’s In The Game To Make Hits , Not Be Lyrical, & His Own Goals When They Create “Is she making money?! Is she making hits?! [Her statement] was real! I know how I feel about it is: it definitely feels good to makes hits, it feels good to make money, but it also feels good to bring people together—something that ‘Bodak Yellow’ did for the freaking culture! What song had a TV special? We had a TV special on Revolt…about a song!” He goes on to compare Cardi’s success to a young 50 Cent’s: “I feel like ‘Bodak Yellow’ is the female ‘In Da Club’ when that was out. I might be reaching, but I feel like it’s one of the biggest female hip hop records ever, if not the biggest. We had the most gangster of gangsters rapping it and my granddad, he’s a preacher, he knows the song.” On Working With Mary J Blige & More JWhite revealed he’s worked with a ton of artists, including Eric Bellinger, Fetty Wap, LeToya Luckett, and more—but working with living legend MJB seemed to be a highlight of his career. When asked if he saw her recent (drop dead gorgeous) photos, he talked about how beautiful she is inside and out: “When I seen Mary J. Blige in that studio I said ‘Halleluuuujah!’ I said ‘I dont know what done happened up in here!’ She’s beautiful. That outside is beautiful, but so is the inside. TIDAL X: Brooklyn Cardi B Not Eligible For Best New Artist At 2019 Grammys Bronx bombshell Cardi B has quite possibly had the best two years any artist on the come up has ever seen and she’s showing no signs of slowing down. Since her first chart-topping single “Bodak Yellow” broke records back in 2017, the Latina raptress has accumulated numerous accolades, married a member of the award-winning rap group, The Migos, and gave birth to her first child all while remaining on top of the Pop and Hip-Hop charts. So how come the self-proclaimed “King of New York” can’t even compete for Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammy Awards? According to Billboard, Cardi who earned two nominations at this year’s Grammys held in February, was not eligible for nomination because of her previous nominations. The Grammys, which has adjusted the rules of Best New Artist over the years to keep up with the changing musical landscape, states that “any artist with a previous Grammy nomination as a performer” would not qualify. If Cardi B had not released an album around the time she earned her first pair of nominations for “Bodak Yellow,” she could have qualified but because she had enough music to be eligible for Best New Artist at the 2018 show and earned prior nominations, she’s disqualified from the category. 90 Day Fiance stars Russ and Paola Mayfield are expecting their first child . Fans are thrilled for them. Pao isn’t hiding her growing baby bump — she’s been putting it on display. Now, she’s sharing a major update, and Russ is giving her a little help. Take a look: Back in August, Paola flaunted her baby bump in a barely-there bikini in an instagram video. Pao isn’t just a reality star — she is a fitness model by trade. It really shows. But though her abs may be incredible, her baby bump continues to grow and take an effect on her body. Take a look at this update that she shared on Monday, October 1. For October, her baby bump is now pumpkin-sized. “Our protector,” Paola captioned this photo. “We love you.” Obviously, Paola still looks great. We’ll get to see her profile in a moment, but can we talk about Russ’ presence in the photo . He’s being careful to not overshadow Paola — which is good. Fans are there to see her and her baby bump, specifically. Considering that it wasn’t that long ago that fans perceived that Russ wanted Paola to cover up on Instagram, this looks like relationship progress. “My little angel is growing healthy and stronger,” Paola captioned this pic. “I can’t wait to meet you.” From this angle, you can really see that bump’s growth, folks! Some fitness models make fans and followers concerned with how little their bodies seem to outwardly change during pregnancy. Paola is still very clearly fit, but her baby bump isn’t hiding, either. That added to their preexisting issues — mostly conflict over Russ’ discomfort with Paola’s modeling work. Said dispute has been an ongoing storyline on 90 Day Fiance . Fortunately, they worked through the fallout from the miscarriage and seem to be in a much better place in every way. Paola has received some shaming, unfortunately, since her pregnancy. Some people — even those who might claim to be her “fans” — think that pregnant folks should cover up their baby bumps. Others hope that she quits modeling altogether now that she’s becoming a mother. Yes, there are still people in this world who have a real problem with working moms. But these were the same people who were giving her a hard time for modeling before she was pregnant. The “All About The Benjamins” artist said despite making more than $18,000 a month, she spends almost $13,000 and has just $2,500 in cash to her name and nothing saved or in retirement accounts, according to new court docs in her bankruptcy case. Lil Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, said that she has just $5,000 worth of clothes and $25,000 worth of jewelry, along with a 2000 Mercedes Benz worth $4,200 and a 2005 Bentley worth $52,000. She also lists having $25,000 in furniture, $5,000 in electronics and admits to owing some $1.8 million in back taxes. Your parents let your friends come over to play and you guys are all hanging out in your backyard, when you decide to hit up the treehouse. While most kids would then settle into a game of cops and robbers and the like, one Missouri “miracle” boy’s day of fun ended very differently earlier this month. In an almost fatal accident, 10-year-old Xavier Cunningham was playing in his backyard with friends when a swarm of wasps attacked them, causing Xavier to fall face-first out of his treehouse. What’s more, his face crashed right into a metal rotisserie skewer the boys “had found and staked into the ground to avoid stepping on it,” NBC reports. The boy’s father told the site, “He was more concerned with the yellow jackets than the skewer.” From NBC : “The skewer drove through Xavier’s face, all the way to the back of his head. He then ran inside to his mother, who immediately brought him to the hospital. Xavier eventually ended up at the University of Kansas Hospital, where Dr. Koji Ebersole assessed the path of the skewer, which somehow circumvented Xavier’s eyes, brain, and major blood vessels.” In a Youtube video posted about the incident, Dr. Ebersole says he was “amazed that he was alive, let alone, awake and talking.” According to the good doctor , “The skewer somehow managed to nearly brush — but completely miss — two vital blood vessels when it bored through Xavier’s head. The trajectory the rod went ‘is essentially one in a million,’ Ebersol said. ‘I just can’t believe that.’ The unlikely path the skewer traveled allowed Ebersol the time to assemble a team of about 100 people and come up with a plan to remove it. But Xavier wasn’t out of the woods just yet. The square skewer had a knob on the end of it, which could have still damaged those two vessels on the way out, Ebersol said. Additionally, the skewer had penetrated Xavier’s jaw muscle, prohibiting him from opening his mouth for a breathing tube during surgery. The massive medical team devised a plan though, and were able to remove the skewer without any further damage.” After nearly losing his life, Xavier’s dad says his 10-year-old is back to “his same ol’ self.
