Rick Ross’ ‘You The Boss’ Written For Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj Reveals

Minaj tells MTV News she ‘did that song for Wayne two and a half years ago.’ By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage Rick Ross is hip-hop’s self-proclaimed Bawse, but despite giving it up to Rozay on his new single , Nicki Minaj answers to another. While on the set of Birdman’s “Y.U. Mad” video, the Female Weezy told MTV News that she originally wrote Ross’ “You the Boss” for Young Money CEO Lil Wayne. “You know what’s interesting about that song,” Minaj said while in character as her alter ego, the Female Weezy, “Nicki originally did that song for Wayne two and a half years ago.” The slow-rolling track, which is the first single off of Ross’ upcoming God Forgives, I Don’t, finds Minaj on the hook toasting the larger-than-life Rozay. “I’ll do anything you say, anything, ’cause you the boss,” Nicki sings softly. Wayne never ended up using the track, but it seemed all too perfect for Ricky. “It was just lingering, and then she gave it to Rick Ross,” Lady Wayne said. “I think it’s hot.” On October 14, Ross gave the rap world quite a scare after he suffered two separate medical emergencies on his way to a Memphis, Tennessee, concert. Ross is currently on the road to recovery, but while on set with Birdman and Wayne, Minaj wished her collaborator and friend well. “We actually been talking about him and praying for him on the trailer because he’s such a crucial part of hip-hop right now and we’re just hoping he’s healthy,” Minaj told MTV News. “That’s all we can do is pray and hope that he gets some rest and comes back stronger.” Related Artists Nicki Minaj Rick Ross

Drake ‘Happy’ At Young Money, Despite Rumors

‘I really don’t want to go anywhere,’ Drake tells MTV News of rumblings that he’s ready to leave Lil Wayne’s label. By Rob Markman Drake Photo: MTV News Drake made quite a few headlines when he announced his upcoming Club Paradise Tour at the top of October, though it might not have been the press he was looking for. When Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, two non-Young Money artists, were revealed as the tour’s other acts, rumors began to swirl that Drake is unhappy and wants to leave Lil Wayne ‘s label. “I never really know where those rumors stem from,” Drake told MTV News. “I’m really happy at Young Money; I really don’t want to go anywhere. Me and Wayne have a great relationship.” With the lesser-known Room for Improvement and Comeback Season mixtapes under his belt, Drake caught Weezy’s attention through a mutual friend and was invited out on tour with the YM boss several months before releasing his breakout tape, So Far Gone. Under Wayne’s tutelage, Drizzy Drake became a star, but as big as he’s gotten, he still salutes the man who put him in prime position. “At the end of the day, that’s my boss. I’m his soldier. I’m cool with that. I’m good with that,” he said. “That’s the role I want to play. He put me here.” In a separate interview with MTV News, Wayne gave Drake his full support and offered Take Care a glowing endorsement “I can tell, you know, I don’t know nothing else out there that can touch it, including my stuff. That kid is on another planet,” he said of Drake’s upcoming album. The OVO general also pointed out the Young Money artists’ ability to co-exist with one another, despite all the individual success, counting Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Tyga and the rest of the crew as friends. But Drake also has another group of friends, guys he grew up with in his native Toronto. When he drops Take Care on November 15, through his music, Drake will introduce you to his other crew. “I spent a lot of time out there [in Toronto]; that’s what this album is about. That’s what I’m gonna showcase,” Drake explained. “It’s the same thing with the tour: I wanna bring Kendrick, I wanna bring A$AP. Those are guys that I love. “It has nothing to do with people on my label,” he continued. “Tyga’s out, Nicki’s working on an album, and everybody is doing their thing on the road with Wayne or with Wayne in the studio, so I just sort of showcased the music that I happen to love right now, and those are the two guys that I’m bringing out.” Is Drake a Young Money lifer? Lil Chuckee Could Be ‘Another Wayne,’ Mack Maine Says

Chuckee ‘invested in a studio and learned how to record himself,’ Young Money president tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne and Lil Chuckee Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Celebrity Favorites: Mack Maine Young Money is an army, better yet a navy, and when it comes to their youngest soldier, Lil Chuckee , label president Mack Maine has high hopes. Mixtape Daily caught up with the YMCMB squad at Chuckee’s birthday bash on October 1 in Atlanta, and El Presidente had some key advice for his 16-year-old spitter. “Just make sure that he follows Wayne’s work ethic,” Mack told Mixtape Daily of the tip that he gave young Chuck. “To me Chuckee can be another Wayne, hopefully one day with time.” Obviously, the teenage rhyme slinger has been listening. On his latest mixtape, Twap or Die, Chuckee follows in Weezy’s footsteps, commandeering industry instrumentals for his own needs. Songs like YC’s “Racks” becomes “Twaps on Twaps” while the Throne’s new single “N—as in Paris” becomes “N—az in Hawaii.” Throughout Chuck adds his own flavor, making each track his own. Mack, who helps oversee the careers of not only Wayne, but of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Lil Twist and Cory Gunz, is impressed with Chuck’s growth. “Chuckee called me and told me, ‘I got my own studio,’ ” the President recalled. “So he listens. Instead of him saying ‘I’m writing every day’ he actually took his show money and invested in a studio and he learned how to record himself.” The dedication has clearly paid off. “Chuckee doin’ like five, six songs a day,” Mack said. Nicki Minaj Recalls Pre-Success Suicidal Thoughts

Young Money MC opens up about a dark period in the past, plus big plans for the future in November Cosmo. By James Dinh Nicki Minaj Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage Nicki Minaj has soared to the top of the charts and collaborated with pop icons . With all of that success, it’s hard to imagine that the Young Money MC once felt completely down on life. In the November issue of Cosmopolitan, the Harajuku Barbie opens up about a range of topics, including a particularly dark period when the MC actually considered taking her own life. “I kept having doors slammed on my face,” Minaj recalled of her pre-fame struggles. “I felt like nothing was working. I had moved out on my own, and here I was thinking I’d have to go home. It was one dead end after another. At one point, I was, like, ‘What would happen if I just didn’t wake up?’ That’s how I felt. Like maybe I should just take my life?” Having gotten past those low points, the MC tells the magazine that she has firm plans for a bright future. “I will have put out five albums and will have an Oscar and Grammys,” she predicted. “And I will be getting married and, a couple of years after that will have a bun in the oven. … My whole life is about being Nicki Minaj now. It’s a never-ending saga.” Fresh off the release of her collabo with Willow Smith, Minaj had some words of wisdom to share about the differences between her and another star: Lady Gaga. The Queens native said that while both embrace over-the-top fashion, for the MC, it’s not a 24/7 routine. “I think Gaga is freakin’ dope for that,” she said. “But I can’t be bothered. Give me my sweats. I like transforming from completely raggedy to ‘Ahhh, I’m ready.’ That transformation gives me a high.” Related Artists Nicki Minaj

Drake Takes Center Field In ‘Headlines’ Video

Drizzy puts Toronto hometown on full display in latest Take Care clip. By Rob Markman Drake (file) Photo: Getty Images All Drake cares about is money and the city that he’s from, and in his “Headlines” video Drake puts both on full display. Standing center field in Toronto’s Rogers Centre, Drizzy adjusts his black Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap as the stadium’s scoreboard is lit up with the title of his October 24 album, Take Care. The Young Money soldier released the clip on Sunday through his October’s Very Own blog , three weeks before his sophomore LP is set to drop. Directed by OVO crew members Lamar Taylor and Hyghly Alleyne, “Headlines” doesn’t necessarily follow a narrative but instead places Drake in a few different scenes, performing his rhymes for the camera and contemplating his comeback. “I might be too strung out on compliments, overdosed on confidence,” the MC spits as he emerges from a blockade of his stoic-looking crew embers. From there, we see Drake rapping in front of a rundown building with the letters “OVOXO” sprayed in graffiti on the wall, and then spitting his verse in a high-rise elevator. Interestingly enough, no other members of the Young Money team appear in the video; no cameos from Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj or Cash Money’s Birdman. It is a family affair, however. By the start of the second verse, Drake sits at the head of a dining table, puffing on a cigar with an assortment of wine bottles scattered about. Members of his team sit with him in a “Sopranos”-style, La Cosa Nostra scene. It isn’t the over-the-top video Kanye West directed for Drizzy’s “Best I Ever Had” . Instead “Headlines,” like the previously released “Marvins Room” video (also from Take Care ), is set in Canada and gives a more intimate look into who the superstar rapper really is. As the clip comes to a close, Drake is once again standing center field in Roger’s Centre as the stadium’s dome opens to reveal Toronto’s skyline. Who says you can’t go back home? Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj have represented Young Money on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” and now Drake is up next! He’ll be the musical guest on the October 15th episode hosted by Anna Faris. “SNL” has not announced if Drizzy will appear in any skits, but it would make sense if he did since he was known as an actor before he became a big deal as a rapper/singer. Drake Is Coming To “Saturday Night Live”

Drake To Perform On ‘Saturday Night Live’

Young Money MC will appear alongside host Anna Faris on October 15 episode. By James Dinh Drake Photo: Getty Images On October 15, Drake will make his “Saturday Night Live” debut in an episode hosted by Anna Faris. NBC made the announcement Monday (September 26), also revealing that Ben Stiller and musical guest Foster the People are booked for the October 8 show. Drake’s appearance will come just before the release of his sophomore effort, Take Care, which hits stores October 24 (also his birthday). It also marks the second time a Young Money artist has graced the late-night sketch show this year; Nicki Minaj served as musical guest back in February. News of Drizzy’s “SNL” gig comes just days after the rapper took to his October’s Very Own blog to unveil his Take Care LP artwork . In addition to the visual, Drake also wrote a short note to his fans, in which he admitted his anticipation about finally dropping the project. “Feels like it’s been so long,” he wrote, before asking a series of questions about awaiting special moments. “Maybe our anticipation is justified by the fact that we genuinely cannot wait to share a moment again? Either way, your life and mine are scheduled to meet on October 24 … I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Drake told MTV News early this month that the LP’s lead single, “Headlines,” was the perfect tune to launch the project. “I think it’s great; the purpose of that record was solely to deliver a message,” he said. “I could’ve gone with the record that was sort of super radio-friendly, but I really just wanted to talk to the people with the first record.” “Headlines” is just one of many tunes the OVOXO star has released to appease fans’ appetites. Just a few weeks ago, the hip-hop heavyweight dropped even more new material, including “Club Paradise,” “Free Spirit” and a remix of Waka Flocka Flame’s “Round of Applause.” Are you excited to see Drake on “SNL”?
