Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Son Talks Touring With Wu-Tang Clan

‘They the gods and I’m the young god,’ Boy Jones says in Mixtape Daily By Shaheem Reid Ol’ Dirty Bastard Photo: Chi Modu/ diverseimages/ Getty Images Fire Starter: Boy Jones Just looking at 21-year-old Boy Jones, it’s clear he’s his father’s son. Jones wears a T-shirt with an image of his pop, the late great Ol’ Dirty Bastard , taking up most of the real estate on the front. It’s late August, the day before the Rock the Bells tour kicked off its four-city run. Jones is in San Bernardino, California, at the NOS Events Center. Snoop Dogg is at one side of the park rehearsing and members of the Wu-Tang Clan are inside at another part. GZA is playing chess, and RZA is onstage, guiding his cousin the Young Dirty Bastard through a Wu classic, “Shame on a Ni–a.” It’s a signature song from the Shaolin Swordsmen’s 1993 debut LP, on which Dirt McGirt stole the show. The next night, while the real performance was going, Young Dirty brought high energy for “Shame,” and during a tribute to Dirty senior, for which Boy Jones performed “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” the youngster ran out with no shirt and jumped into the audience. ” ‘Shimmy Shimmy’ with no shirt on? I couldn’t help it,” Jones said a week later, this time at New York’s Governors Island. “It’s like a baby running around naked. Once you start, you have to let go of everything. Be a free spirit. Uprise yourself. The fans give you the energy. I’mma get naked regardless.” Sound familiar? Jones — even at a young age — has that unorthodox wisdom his dad was famous for. He also shares the same unpredictable energy and even the same hairstyle. YDB sports the braids sticking straight up in the air like ODB had. “He looks just like him. Scrappy Doo to the fullest,” Raekwon the Chef laughed. “Dirty was Scooby and his son is Scrappy all the way. He looks just like his father. When I tell you he’s got his father’s style down pat, am I lying? Nope. He’s his father to the maximum. When I see him, I see his father.” “I love Boy Jones,” Method Man said after the Wu performed at Governors Island. “His grandmother is here, Dirty’s mother. I know she’s lookin’ up and she’s proud of him. I’m proud of him, too.” “It feels great,” Jones said about performing with his dad’s squadron. “It’s me. It’s his son. A son is like a father, he always gotta do what his father does. He’s born in that type of way. It ain’t nothing else to it. I got the call from RZA [to go on tour] when I was feeding my babies baby food. ‘You going on the tour.’ I’m running. I need that bread. Young Dirty Bastard raps hard, too. I ain’t doing it for free. I need money and I rap hard. “They the gods and I’m the young god,” Dirty added about what he’s learned from traveling and performing with Wu-Tang. “It’s like when you go to school for the first time and you’re really scared, but you have teachers who really teach you. You can’t know anything without somebody giving it to you. They give it to me real. They don’t tell it to me fake. I might break a few rules and they put me in check. They teach me. I’m the young god.” Young Dirty is working on his first big mixtape. Besides Meth, Rae and Ghostface, he wants to work with 9th Wonder. Boy is talking to DJ Absolut about hosting the project. “My music is coming with an Ol’ natural style,” Jones explained. “Ol’ Dirty Bastard had the sh–. I’m just the new sperm of the generation. And you know I’m gonna have it. I’m born with it.” The Streets Is Talking A few days ago, Raekwon leaked the trailer for the “Ason Jones” video. The Chef said paying tribute to his friend was always in the plans. “As far as the video is concerned, it’s something I wanted to add to the collection of videos I got out there. Dirty is my heart. Same way how everybody got fallen soldiers around them or in their circle that they lost, he is one I really appreciate. At the end of the day, I’m always keeping him right here.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines. Related Artists Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Kanye West ‘Cleveland Show’ Preview Pops Up Online

‘Kenny’ West challenges Cleveland Jr. to Auto-Tune-assisted rap-off in upcoming episode. By Jayson Rodriguez Kanye West and Cleveland Jr. on “The Cleveland Show” Photo: FOX Kanye West by any other name is still not to be messed with. Just ask Cleveland Jr. from “The Cleveland Show.” The animated series’ soft-spoken teen puts the move on a classmate in a clip from an unaired episode circulating online. Things get interesting when Cleveland Jr. finds out his crush is dating the Chicago rapper, who voices his own character. “It’s Kenny sippin’ Henny/ Rhymes slicker than Teflon,” West raps, during a musical confrontation with Cleveland. “The school been high, I’m the black Zac Efron/ And when I meet a shorty, you know we going backwards/ Pulling more tail than my man John Edwards/ Lumpy, chunky, boogie-eating chump, B/ Acting out of place like Hootie singing country/ Leave my girl alone and get your own tenderoni/ Come on, who are we kidding?/ You’re used to being lonely.” Earlier this year, it was reported that West would appear in an episode scheduled to air May 2 on Fox. According to show co-creator Rich Appel, West is a longtime fan of “Family Guy,” for which Appel was co-executive producer. “The Cleveland Show” writers developed a concept for the rapper and pitched it to him, Appel said. West, to their surprise, agreed. The multiplatinum artist, however, is less successful in his animated universe than he is in real life. “Kenny” West is still trying to find his way. In the limited preview, after serving Cleveland Jr. in rhyme, Kenny challenges the youngster to an Auto-Tune-enhanced sing-off, only to discover his counterpart can “sound like a robot” — with no aid. As of press time, the rapper was only scheduled for one guest spot. But Appel told People magazine in March that he would welcome West’s return to the show anytime, heaping praise on the MC for his contributions. “We just recorded him in the booth, and he was fantastic,” Appel said. “Once he read it a couple times through, he just owned the character, which I guess isn’t hard since he was named Kenny West. He said he’d be glad to [be back]. I said we could write him into the next 21 episodes!” What do you think about Kanye’s animated alter ego? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Kanye West

Crystal Bowersox: Her Troubled Upbringing

Crystal Bowersox is a front-runner on American Idol this season. But behind her soulful singing lies a difficult childhood dealing with diabetes, divorce and a father behind bars. Following her diabetes diagnosis at the age of six, things worsened still for the Ohio native when her parents got a divorce. Not only did Crystal Bowersox witness a brawl between her mother and new stepmom, but a fight between her dad and 15-year-old stepbrother over the youngster’s school record and attitude landed her dad in jail on domestic violence charges. Are we looking at the next American Idol right here? “Her dad’s predicament was especially rough on Crystal; she was always Daddy’s little girl,” her step-grandfather, Wally Kline, told Star of Bowersox’s tough beginning. That’s very sad, but we’re just glad she’s come out of it fine, and was able to channel such difficulties into music that’s captivating us week after week on American Idol . We expect more of the same this evening!

Jaafar Jackson: No Stranger to Family Violence

Michael Jackson’s mom Katherine insists the recent incident involving Jermaine Jackson’s son Jaafar and the stun gun he tried to use on Blanket was an isolated event. Other reports seem to indicate otherwise, however. From what we’ve gathered, the attempted attack on MJ’s son was indicative of the utter chaos in the house. Jaafar Jackson is no stranger to playing with guns, according to TMZ , which got its hands on a disturbing video which appears to have been shot a few months ago. In the tape, Jaafar barges in on brother Jermajesty’s room (yes, Jermaine has a son named freaking Jermajesty), with gun drawn, ordering him to get on the ground. Jaafar proceeds to push Jermajesty to the ground, pretend to pistol-whip him, handcuff him and give the youngster an incomplete version of his Miranda rights. Jaafar Jackson with pop Jermaine and his wife Halima Rashid . Jaafar then tells his brother, “Don’t move or I’ll bust your head open.” He went on to cock the gun, point it to Jermajesty’s head, and pull the trigger until it clicks. Disturbing. The tape has not been made available for obvious reasons. He then drags his “dead” bro by the leg out of the room . As for the Blanket stun gun incident, sources say Jaafar pointed came at two of Michael’s kids – Blanket and Prince – though the family says they weren’t in the room. Much as the Jacksons try to downplay it , officials aren’t biting. The L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services are still reviewing the stun gun incident, but Jermaine Jackson should probably get his parenting act together.
