The choices we make… dictate the lives we lead. SMH It took less than two weeks for Harvard Basketball co-captain Kyle Casey to withdraw from school for the entire academic year after the shake down in a widespread academic cheating scandal. With Harvard’s fall enrollment deadline looming Tuesday, Casey withdrew from school and co-captain Brandyn Curry was expected to do the same, in an attempt to preserve their final year of eligibility. On Aug. 30, Harvard College announced in a letter that its administrative board was investigating allegations that approximately 125 undergraduates “may have committed acts of academic dishonesty, ranging from inappropriate collaboration to outright plagiarism, on a take-home final exam.” The exam was for Government 1310: Introduction to Congress, a spring 2012 class with an enrollment of 279. Sources said that Casey, Curry and one additional men’s basketball player are among a group of athletes and non-athletes whose cases are pending review. They are facing charges of academic dishonesty that could carry a one-year suspension from school. Amaker, who came to Harvard in 2007 after being dismissed from Michigan, has coached the Crimson to 20-win seasons in each of the past three years, including a 26-5 record in 2011-12. They were the early favorite to repeat as Ivy League champions next season, given that Casey, who also considered attending Stanford and Vanderbilt out of high school in Medway, Mass., was a potential contender for Ivy League player of the year and Curry was expected to be among the conference’s best point guards. For at least one season, Harvard will have to make do without them. Lesson learned?? Or do you think this was a harsh punishment? Source Images via Twitter
You all remember Jael from ANTM… the rough, spunky contestant on Cycle 8 who wanted to be the best! That awkward episode where Jay Emmanuel gave her attitude because she wasn’t “giving enough” during one of their pretend you’re dead photo shoots; faking like he didn’t know her friend had overdosed a few days before. Unfortunately for Jael, she’s been hittin’ that Meth for the last SIX years and she’s a full blown addict who’s ruined her face and body, which is covered in sores, and has rotted teeth in exchange for a beautiful smile. Peep the vid as her family appears on an upcoming episode of Dr. Phil holding an intervention in order to save her life. A former America’s Next Top Model contestant’s battle with crystal meth addiction is the subject of an explosive new episode of Dr. Phil…after becoming hooked on methamphetamine, Strauss, 28, soon became a helpless addict and in an episode airing on September 13, her family turns to Dr. Phil McGraw for an intervention. Ravaged in appearance and living on the streets, Strauss is hunted down by her brother, Brandon and mother, Debbie, who ask her to travel to Los Angeles to see Dr. Phil. Reluctantly she agrees. But after she finds herself on the stage, she runs out of the studio and into the Paramount parking lot. Realizing the extent of her issues, Dr. Phil follows her, noting: “This is the first time in 10 years I’ve come out here, to talk to you.” It isn’t the first time Strauss, who claims to be well-rounded, has struggled with her emotions on TV. Her family conceded that her friend’s overdose “really shook her,” but it wasn’t enough to wean Strauss off drugs herself. This is a sad story and we hope she can kick the habit! Actor Kal Penn’s puff, puff, passin’ some accolades to his boy Barack. Better known as the irresponsible stoner in the Harold & Kumar movie series, Kal repped for POTUS during last night’s DNC opening. Yahoo News caught up with Penn inside the Time Warner Cable Arena after his convention speech and asked about his thoughts on Obama’s sticky icky policy record. Of course, Penn is an actor and not a marijuana policy activist. But after his appearance in the campaign video, we had to ask. “I feel like I get this question because of the nature of the movies I’m in, and I know that you wouldn’t ask Anthony Hopkins whether he eats people in real life after ‘Silence of the Lambs,’” Penn said. “So I’m just going to call you out on that.” Fair enough (although appearing in an Obama video as a stoner makes it fair game.) “But,” he went on to say, “I think that the president’s been pretty consistent with that. He’s not in favor of legalization, we should be open about something like that. But what the president has done is take a really smart look at the Department of Justice and said, given the fact that the federal government has limited resources, we should be allocating them toward violent criminals and not towards nonviolent criminals. We can see that not just in things like mary but in things like immigration reform where he’s going after and deporting violent criminals and making sure that if you’re a DREAM Act eligible student that you know that you can apply for your deferred status. Wherever the federal government has an appropriate role, I think the president’s been very consistent in that. That’s something that I think folks should know.” While the Justice Department has made small changes to its drug law enforcement approach, civil libertarians have taken Obama’s administration to task for continuing federal prosecution of sticky icky dispensaries that operate legally under state laws. In 2004, then-Illinois state Sen. Obama called the “war on drugs” an “utter failure” and called for herb to be decriminalized, but he has tread carefully on the issue during his presidency. When asked if he thought federal policies on green were appropriate, Penn said he didn’t know. “I’m not an herb expert,” he said. “That’s a weird question.” No coincidence that Kal didn’t bring up Barack’s drug policy record during his speech…but we all know he’d like that isht legalized. I have been a fan of Justins since 2009 and have been wanting to meet him for almost 4 years! I knew it would be difficult but I decided to make it happen the summer of 2012. My friends and I had gone to some of Justin’s favorite hangout spots in hopes of seeing him, but no luck . At this point I began getting really discouraged and afraid I would never meet him. I knew Justin would be starting his rehearsals for the Believe Tour so I decided to take it upon myself to find the studio he and the crew would be at. After calling about six studios, I finally found the studio which Justin would be at! I was ecstatic and so hopeful that this was my chance to finally meet him! Monday August 13th, my friend and I arrived at the studio at 2pm around the same time Justin arrived. We parked the car and sat on the sidewalk knowing Justin would be inside for at least 2 hours. Around 4 o’clock five more girls showed up and sat with us. Moshe, driving the swag van pulled out of the parking lot and drove across the street where we were to wait inside the alleyway. My friend and I got up, walked into the alley and walked up to Moshe hoping he would roll down his window and talk to us. He did. I said, “Hi Moshe, we have been waiting here for a while and were wondering if you could have Justin come out and say hi to us after he finishes rehearsing”. Moshe said, “No problem no problem”. We walked back to the sidewalk and told the other girls the good news. At that point we were all so excited becuase we knew we would finally be meeting Justin! It was just a matter of what time he would come out. At 6 o’clock, another 4 girls showed up. There were a total of 11 of us. We all sat and talked about what we would say to Justin and how excited we were which helped the time pass significantly. Finally at 7pm we saw the swag van pull out of the parking lot and we saw Moshe signal to us to stay where we were, so we did. The van drove right past us and drove all the way to the end of the alley. We saw the door open and we saw Justin get out but he didn’t come to us. We stared at that van for 30 minutes wondering when it would come back down the alley and finally at 7:30, it did. We all stood up and organized ourselves in a line whispering to each-other to stay calm! The van pulled up right in front of us, Moshe hopped out of the drivers seat, and then came to the side where we were. We all high fived him and expressed our gratitude for him stopping for us. All of the sudden Justin opened the door and came out. I froze, I couldnt believe I was so close to my idol. He started at the front of the line taking pictures with 4 girls until he got to me. I bought him a snapback Lakers hat and said “Here Justin, I got this for you.” He said, “Oh really? Thank you! Thank you for this.” He then asked me how I was and I said “Good how are you,” he said I’m good, it was a long day though.” He then grabbed my waist and I wrapped my arm around him as we took out picture. I told him thank you so much and he said of course, of course with a big smile on his face. I then watched him take pictures with the rest of the girls, still in awe that this was happening. After he had finished taking pictures and talking with everyone, he hopped back into his van and we all said “Thank you Justin, we love you, you are the best!!” He turned around and said “Thank you guys for being the best fans!” The van door then shut and they drove off. We all stood there, speechless and beyond excited! We all hugged eachother and ran around screaming. We hung out for another ten minutes together and then everyone went home. It was a dream come true and I cant thank Justin enough for being so sweet. The 6 hours of waiting went by really fast and were SO worth it. He is genuinly the sweetest, most humble guy ever and I am so proud to call him my idol. Nine days later I decided to go back to the studio with my friends who were with me on the 13th to see Justin one last time before school started. We got there at 2:30 and were only behind like six other girls. By this point more and more girls were finding out the address and the number of girls coming was multiplying daily. There were 45 girls at the studio compared to the 11 the first time I went . Crazy right? Anyways we all sat and talked and made jokes and before we knew it, it was 7pm (near the time Justin usually comes out.) The swag van began to pull out of the parking lot and the secutiry guards made us cross the street and screamed at us to keep an orderly line. Justin came out of the van and took pictures with every single one of us there. When it was my turn, I went up to him and gave him a huge hug first. I forgot to hug him on the 13th and then asked him how he was. We took our picture and and I told him once again thank you so much for everything you do for us! He smiled and said no problem, of course! Security made us all walk to the other side after we took our picture and I just stood there watching Justin take pics with everyone else. Once he had finished, we waved goodbye and off he went. There were about 10 cars (the Bieber crew) that followed behind him. We all waited and waved goodbye to all of his dancers, Kenny, Alfredo, Dan, Scrappy as the drove past us. There were so many cars apart of team Bieber that the entire street was backed up with the crew. It was hilarious and deifinitely a sight to see. I am SO thankful to have been able to meet Justin this summer and have made so many amazing friends along the way!
