I’m not sure what to expect from the The Lords of Salem after watching this clip. Director Rob Zombie appears to be having a Rodgers & Hammerstein moment as his wife, Sheri Moon Zombie , who plays a DJ, takes a very long walk in Day of the Dead make-up to meet one of the Lords in the title. Zombie’s movie is supposed to have some connection to the Salem witch trials via a mysterious recording that arrives at radio station where Mrs. Z works, but you’d be hard-pressed to know that from this clip, which is a Rolling Stone exclusive. To get a better sense of the movie, check out my post on the The Lords of Salem trailer here . It’s pretty trippy, too. Actor-director Glenn Berggoetz is bringing his new film to Los Angeles on March 23, and this time, he says, he’s going to make more than $11. As Movieline gleefully reported in 2011, Berggoetz’s microbudget picture The Worst Movie EVER! earned the dubious distinction of selling a single $11 ticket during its opening weekend at a single theater in Los Angeles. But his follow-up, Midget Zombie Takeover , has already improved upon that. Berggoetz (he’s front and center in the above photo) premiered Midget Zombie Takeover at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Winchester, VA on Feb. 8, and, according to Box Office Mojo , the picture earned $2,755 — more than its $2000 budget and a 25,000-percent improvement over his last film’s opening. (The movie’s trailer is posted below.) In an email, the Denver-based filmmaker writes that the capacity crowd at the Drafthouse “went nuts” and that theater owner “Steve Nerangis told me he’s never heard so much laughing at a film in all his years of owning the theater.” Berggoetz adds that this initial reception and “nothing but great reviews since its release” have translated to cinemas booking Midget Zombie Takeover “not just as a midnight movie, but for multiple screenings” in some cases. He also notes that a theater in Phoenix is considering booking the film for entire week — the first time that his work has received such a lengthy showing. The moral of the story? Being known as the guy with the worst movie opening ever has turned out to be a pretty good thing for Berggoetz. “While I wouldn’t call the $11 opening weekend debacle a badge of honor, it soon became, and remains, a god-send,” he writes. “I still get inquiries from fans all over the world asking about the film, and it really led to me making some great connections.” Although Box Office Mojo reports The Worst Movie EVER! has earned only $10,194 since November 2012, Berggoetz says he got a book deal and speaking gigs out of the ensuing publicity. Last October, he published: The Independent Filmmaker’s Guide: Make Your Feature Film for $2,000 . As he puts it, “Had The Worst Movie EVER! done $110 its opening weekend, a lot of these doors (maybe all of them) wouldn’t have opened for me. So while that opening weekend was a complete bummer at first, I wouldn’t trade it for anything (other than a $20 million opening weekend).” And as he prepares to return to the city where he was humiliated in 2011, Berggoetz is confident that, this time around, he’ll be vindicated. “At this point there are more than 50 people who have contacted me online to say they’ll be attending the midnight screening on Saturday, March 23 at the Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood,” writes the filmmaker, who has clearly learned something about promotion and marketing since then. “So it looks like we’ll post our best L.A. box office numbers yet!” [ Box Office Mojo ] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. 3-man chop downs usually doesn’t end well one way, or another. North Dakota Man Stabs 3 Man Sex Partner When He Doesn’t Want To Switch Positions Via TheSmokingGun A 3-man chop down went horribly wrong last Friday when a North Dakota man stabbed another male participant when he refused to switch positions during the tryst, according to court records. Ashley Hunter, 33, was charged this week with felony aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing Orlando DeWitt, 37, in the arm during the bizarre February 8 encounter. Hunter is pictured in the adjacent mug shot. Cops report that Hunter and DeWitt–who met in prison–had been partying with several female acquaintances Friday night at a Fargo bar when they returned to Hunter’s residence (after a 2:30 AM McDonald’s pit stop). DeWitt told police that he “began kissing on the couch” with one of the women, named Leticia. Soon, they were “under the covers and they had their pants off,” which led, of course, to the new couple having sex. DeWitt added that he twice caught Hunter watching the living room action from his adjacent bedroom. At one point, DeWitt reported, Hunter “came out of the bedroom and began kissing on Leticia’s breasts.” In short order, Leticia “began to perform brains on Hunter.” It appears that DeWitt was continuing to have sex with Leticia while she was performing double duty. At this point things went all bad. “Hunter then asked to switch places with Orlando,” according to a Fargo Police Department report. “Orlando told him no and Hunter became upset.” During the ensuing argument, DeWitt called Hunter a “f***ing retard,” which infuriated Hunter. He yelled at DeWitt and ordered him to leave the residence. DeWitt, seen at left, recalled that Hunter–who threatened to “f**k him up” and “kill him”–reached into the couch and retrieved a 12-inch butcher knife. DeWitt and Leticia, both nekkid, fled to a bathroom. Hunter, knife in hand, subsequently forced his way into the bathroom and continued to threaten DeWitt. “Orlando said he decided to run for the front door,” police reported. The nude DeWitt reached the home’s first door, but as he “went to open the exterior door he felt the knife cutting the back of his left arm.” While fleeing the home, DeWitt, who was not seriously injured, grabbed Leticia’s phone, which he used to call 911 from a nearby alley. Charged Monday with DeWitt’s stabbing, Hunter was booked into the Cass County jail in lieu of $5000 bail. We’ve heard the phrase “pu$$y kills” but cotdamn. How could a man possibly become so angry while in the middle of a chop down? Says a lot about ol’ girl’s box. Image via Shutterstock
She has a point. If you’re one of those people who hates Valentine’s Day because you’re single, you are definitely in good company but Shonda Rhimes, the creator of hit shows “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” was particularly ticked off after someone tweeted her asking her to write something inspiring to the ladies alone on V-Day. Here’s her response : Here is what I say to all the ladies who are alone on Valentines Day: please do not ever use these words “ladies who are alone on Valentine’s Day” together in a sentence ever again. Ever. Again. Valentine’s Day is just a day. It’s just a day of the year like any other. Go. Be happy with the people you love and who love you. See a friend. Read a book. Flirt with a cute boy (or girl). Dance it out. Watch a movie. Have a party. Build a robot. Stop a Zombie Apocalypse. Take over the Earth. Paint your toenails. Eat soup. DO ANYTHING. BUT DO NOT buy into the idea that a day created by greeting card companies should be more romantic than other day or should make you feel lonelier than any other day. Cause life is awesome. And that (feeling lonely cause of a day) is stupid. And a waste of perfectly good time. And it makes me do things like write ranty tweets. Because FOR REALS? You’re asking me to cheer up women who are alone of Valentine’s Day? You don’t need cheering up. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU. You are perfect and awesome just like you are. You just happen to be listening to someone who says you aren’t. They are idiots. Ignore them. Because FYI? A lot of great things can happen to you while you are single. I came up with a show called Grey’s Anatomy while I was single. Just saying. F**k Valentine’s Day. Go do something with your life. much love, Shonda Do you agree that Valentine’s day is just a greeting card holiday designed to make people spend money and feel bad about themselves if they’re not coupled up? What are your plans for this evening. WENN/ Shutterstock
The first thing I thought when I saw this trailer for Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem was, oh good, someone’s finally made a movie about what it was like to live on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in the late 1980s, before things got all handcrafted and artisanal. The second thing I thought was, this clip appears to have little to do with the synopsis for the movie that accompanied the trailer. Here’s what it says: From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords.” Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of the town’s violent past. Is Heidi going mad, or are the “Lords of Salem” returning for revenge on modern-day Salem? A previous synopsis described Heidi, who’s played by the writer-director’s wife, as a “blond rock chick,” and the dreadlocks telegraph that much. But I didn’t see any reference in the trailer to the creepy vinyl record that, I understand, becomes a big hit in the movie. Instead, I get more of a crust-punk Rosemary’s Baby vibe from the proceedings. (Meanwhile, the trailer’s soundtrack is reminiscent of the one used in Prometheus teasers.) As for the goat at the top of the clip, the Lower East Side had them back in the day. Live chickens, too. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.
Nude in theaters, the Sylvester Stallone flick Bullet to the Head (2013) gives us double barrels to the face thanks to topless scenes from Weronika Rosati and Sarah Shahi . We also had high hopes for the Pacino/Walken comedy Stand Up Guys (2013) since it co-stars frequent nude beauties Addison Timlin and Vanessa Ferlito , but both babes keep covered for this flick. Sadly, the same goes for awesome Aussie Teresa Palmer in the zombie romance Warm Bodies (2013). More after the jump!

“I basically replaced Michael Anthony Hall with a zombie” says Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine by way of explaining that his girl-meet-corpse rom-com has more in common with John Hughes body of work than the Twilight saga. I was on the red carpet Friday night for the New York premiere — which was hosted by The Cinema Society and Artistry — where I also spoke with star Nicholas Hoult. How did the former Skins star perfect his zombie run? Hours on the treadmill! In fact, when friends stopped by his flat — Hoult is British — he says they took one look at him and said “this guy needs to take a break”! Nope, that’s not fatigue, that’s zombie reflexes! Hoult’s co-star Teresa Palmer was also in attendance, and her favorite thing about Warm Bodies is that it helps the uber popular zombie genre evolve in unexpected ways. That’s right, we can’t watch The Walking Dead forever – or can we…? Check out the full interview below: Follow Grace Randolph on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
LAUREN COHAN is on The Walking Dead…a popular show I’ve never watched cuz I’m too lame to hang with the cool kids…and I’m not allowed to like what the mainstream like….cuz the mainstream doesn’t ever invite me to its birthday party…..but more importantly….cuz I just assume a Zombie show created because of Zombie hype..based on a comic book…is garbage and I won’t give it a chance….at least I can pretend I’m just too cool and above it all…sitting on my throne of dog shit in a basment apartment that is around 0 degrees thanks to quality craftmanship when this low cost housing dump was built…. I guess with being on a popular show…comes getting exposure…and getting exposure that sell magazines when magazines are kinda dead and should be free anyway….require semi hot pics….leading to these shots of this girl in her one-piece that all you nerd and AMC show loving freaks will probably really like lookin at…
