Back in June, Gina Kirschenheiter frantically called the police to report that her ex-husband Matt assaulted her and threatened her life . He even lost his job over the domestic violence incident , and now claims that he can’t even pay the court-ordered child support. Now, Matt has officially been charged, and it looks like the Orange County DA is throwing the book at him. Reminder that the details of this case can be very upsetting and include allegations of domestic violence . On June 22, reports say that The Real Housewives of Orange County cast member woke up in her home. While her three young children continued to sleep, she went downstairs where someone was banging on the door. That person turned out to be her estranged ex, Matt, from whom she is (almost entirely) divorced. Reports say that he found his way into the house and forced Gina onto the sofa while ranting at her about not opening the door (it was late at night). He even allegedly struck her with an object and prevented her from leaving. Eventually, Matt left Gina alone for long enough for her to flee the house, hoping to go to a neighbor for help and to call 911. Unfortunately, Matt caught up with her and allegedly physically dragged her back into the house. This all sounds absolutely, bone-chillingly terrifying. Matt allegedly threatened Gina’s life — repeatedly. Thankfully, the police arrived. Afterwards, Gina filed for a restraining order in the hopes of keeping Matt from terrorizing her ever again. Now, TMZ reports that the Orange County D.A. is taking this very seriously. Matt Kirschenheiter is now facing two felony assault charges, both of which are related to domestic violence. The first is a charge of domestic violence. The second is a charge of false imprisonment — the charge you face when you prevent someone from leaving. While the charges don’t contain or confirm many of the horrific details that have been reported, they do contain some information. TMZ reports that Matt allegedly “inflicted corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition” upon Gina. (This is both heartbreaking and upsetting) It is not clear exactly why it took more than two months for Matt to be charged. Sometimes, investigators and prosecutors take their time accumulating evidence and making sure that they have a solid case. Other times, the victim may feel conflicted about pressing charges — all too common in cases of domestic violence. Abusers are the worst people on the planet, but many of them have ways of manipulating their victims into pitying them. Do not pity them. Whatever the reason for the delay, Matt has now been charged. As we mentioned, he also says that his arrest in June and the leaked details of the allegations against him cost him his job. Where he once made a hefty six figures between salary and commissions, he was forced to resign. It makes solid business sense to show him the door.
