Dr. Conrad Murray is seeking to delay his preliminary hearing next month, during which a judge will determine if he will stand trial for involuntary manslaughter. His legal team claims it may not be ready for the hearing, as they still have not received the full criminal file from the prosecution in the Michael Jackson case. Miranda Sevcik, spokesperson for Murray’s lawyer, Ed Chernoff, says they have only received 3,500 pages of material. That’s out of ” hundreds of thousands .” A D.A. spokesperson counters that the “hundreds of thousands” of pages quote was their error on their part … and in fact there are only “thousands of pages.” Of which the Conrad Murray team has received “the bulk of it.” Dr. Conrad Murray’s legal saga could drag on a long, long time . Sevcik’s response: “It’s odd. It seems like an awfully big miscalculation.” As a result, Conrad Murray may ask to delay the June 14 hearing soon. When and if a trial occurs, part of his defense is believed to be the assertion that Michael Jackson killed himself with Propofol while Murray was out of the room. Murray claims that Jackson was an addictive personality who always pushed the limit of what his body could take, and his death was essentially his own fault. He might have a case. But if he wins, we suggest he and Jason Pfeiffer enter into a witness protection program ASAP, because MJ fans will hunt them down.

Lena Horne, the first black star signed to a contract by a major Hollywood studio, died Sunday at a Manhattan hospital. She was 92. Horne’s best-known film role came in the 1943 musical Stormy Weather , while general industry discrimination kept her off the big screen for most of the next two or three decades; her final movie role came in Sidney Lumet’s adaptation of The Wiz . Cinema trailblazer though she was, Horne is still perhaps best-known for her stage, TV and recording work; growing up, I’d take her on Sesame Street any day of the week. [ NYT ]

Coffeeshops have been part of our daily routine. Our days never seemed  complete if we don’t get to sip our fave coffee concoctions for the day. So I browsed through the net and looked for the best coffesshop there is in the metro. Starbucks got the majority of the votes among caffein addicts and Tim Hortons fell second, then Second Cup, Costa and Caribou Coffee came next respectively. Starbucks is considered the largest coffeehouse company in the world, with 17,133 shops in 49 countries.  They sell drip brewed coffee, espresso-based hot drinks, other hot and cold drinks, coffee beans, salads, hot and cold sandwiches and paninis, pastry, snacks, and items such as mugs and tumblers (which I am a big collector of). By Gil Kaufman Betty White on “Saturday Night Live” Photo: NBC With her muffin-touting, hardcore screamo antics and help from an all-star cast of “Saturday Night Live” alumnae, not to mention two solid performances from Jay-Z, Betty White helped “SNL” notch its best ratings in nearly two years. According to figures provided by Nielsen, White gave the 35-year-old late-night staple its highest overnight numbers in more than 18 months, averaging an 8.8 rating, its biggest viewership since a November 1, 2008, show hosted by Ben Affleck that featured appearances by then Republican presidential nominee John McCain and Tina Fey as running mate Sarah Palin. Entertainment Weekly reported that “SNL” was up 66 percent in Nielsen-metered homes over the same night last year. It helped that a who’s-who of “SNL” alums showed up to provide support for the 88-year-old showbiz legend whose suddenly-hot again status was cemented by a 500,000-member Facebook group that helped convince her to finally say yes to hosting the show after decades of declining invitations. Among the famous faces reprising some of their most beloved sketches were Maya Rudolph (serving up some of her patented loopy Whitney Houston), Tina Fey and Amy Poehler back behind the “Weekend Update” anchor desk, Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon donning their frumpy wool sweaters for their NPR parody “Delicious Dish” and Rachel Dratch, who played a number of utility roles but whose appearance as her Debbie Downer character was, sadly, left on the cutting-room floor.
