Here at Urlesque, that means it’s time to reflect on some of the fantastic moms who have helped shape the internet into the fun and weird place we know and love. Without the guiding hands of these mothers, some of our favorite viral videos and epic memes wouldn’t exist. Whether they’re taping their kids doing something funny and making sure it gets on YouTube, or whether they’ve got viral-video-worthy talent of their own, moms are responsible for some of the funniest moments we’ve ever seen online. Here’s our tribute to the moms behind 10 of our favorite web video sensations. Happy Mother’s Day! Maya’s Mom From the Lucky’s Funeral Video When little Maya’s fish, Lucky, passed away, her mom was reluctant to take the funeral seriously. In the famous “Lucky’s Funeral” video, Mom makes a halfhearted stab at a eulogy, but then rises to the occasion to help her daughter with the grieving process. It’s one of the web’s most weirdly touching moments. The “I Don’t Like You, Mommy” Mom A good mom knows when her kid has struck comedy gold and she makes a YouTube video to show it off … even when the video is of her 3-year-old saying he only likes her when she gives him cookies. Judging by her excellent sense of humor, I expect that she turned out to be a pretty cool mom and her kid likes her just fine these days. The “Kick His Ask” Mom When little kids use grownup language, it’s inevitably hilarious. You’ve seen the Will Ferrell video with the two-year-old landlord and the Mac vs. PC fight video with tiny Asian girls … well, the Kick His Ask kid might be even funnier. This adorable little girl tells her mom what will happen if a monster comes to get her. “I’ll kick his ask! If I don’t, he’ll kick my ask!” This priceless moment wouldn’t have made it online if Mom hadn’t grabbed the camera (and, presumably, used the phrase “kick his ass” around her kid). Charlie’s Mom From the ‘Charlie Bit My Finger’ Video Charlie Bit My Finger is the most famous YouTube kid vid of all time. For both of the people who aren’t familiar, here’s the recap: a little kid is holding his baby brother and he slips his finger inside the baby’s mouth. Inevitably, baby Charlie bites his brother’s finger and the immortal lines, “Ow, Charlie, that really hurt! Charlie bit me!” are uttered. Mad internet props to Charlie’s mom for a) capturing this perfect moment for YouTube and b) being English, because the cute accent just makes Charlie Bit Me that much better. Anne, The Mom of Capucine The Precocious French Storytelling Girl Capucine is a brilliant little French girl who makes up amazing stories, full of crocodiles, monkeys and witches. Capucine’s mom, Anne, puts adorable videos online, complete with subtitles so monolingual American n00bs like me can understand them. Capucine’s mom has also set up a project called Capucine’s Library , which provides school books for Mongolian children. What a warm-hearted internet mom! John Roberts’ Mom Mom of Comedy Inspiration YouTube-famous comedian John Roberts is best known for one character … his mom. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Louis Lanzano/ AP Images Lil Wayne posted a letter to his mother and the mothers of his four children online Friday (May 7), after a preview appeared earlier in the week, writing that the bond between matriarch and offspring is “the most beautiful thing God created.” The Mother’s Day tribute , titled “A Mother’s Worth,” was written for the rapper’s fan site, WeezyThankxYou.com , which he launched last month to keep his followers up to date on his life as he serves his one-year prison sentence. “It’s not many words in the world more powerful than ‘mother,’ ” Wayne wrote in the third post he’s issued since his incarceration began. “Those six letters can bring joy, just like they bring pain.” The rapper explained that for him Mother’s Day is every day, yet he understands the significance of having a designated holiday. “To all the mothers that read this letter, I hope this day allows you to feel the love and respect you so rightfully deserve,” he said. “You are the role models, not me.” Later in the letter, the rapper’s thoughts became more personal as he touched on the relationships with the women who have given birth to his children, including actress Lauren London ; singer Nivea ; his ex-wife, reality-TV star Toya Carter and a college student Wayne was previously dating. In a time period spanning just over 12 months, from late 2008 to the end of 2009, Wayne had three children born to him, while his daughter Reginae was born when he was just 15. The Cash Money Records star maintains a cordial relationship with each of his children’s mothers and wrote of his appreciate for them. “To the mothers of my beautiful children, there remains nothing but love, adoration and respect coming from my heart,” he said. “Even with the mistakes I’ve made in my life, you give me reason to smile in a place where they attempt to break your spirit each day the sun rises. I love my babies with all my heart. And the fact you brought them into this world only gives me more and more motivation to write these words.” To his own mother, Cita Carter, Weezy opened up about his absence and his sorrow for not being able to spend time with her on the holiday. “You are my heart and you are my soul,” he wrote. “Please don’t ever forget that. We’ve been through everything one could possibly imagine together. With each obstacle that has come our way, you have handled it with the grace and dignity I can only hope to mimic. Even writing this, it’s tough to come to grips with the fact I cannot spend this special day with you. Like you always preached, a man must accept his own actions — good and bad — and learn from them. And that’s what I’m doing. Mom, I love you more than you will ever know.” Like his last letter, Wayne ended his message by thanking several of his fans by name for writing to him and sharing their support. The 16-year-old girl who allegedly had sex with Lawrence Taylor for $300 told the NFL great she was 19, as per her pimp’s instructions, according to reports. Taylor was arrested for rape yesterday. The FBI is now investigating her alleged pimp Rasheed Davis on suspicion of human sex trafficking, a federal violation. An FBI agent assigned to the case claims Davis “caused” the 16-year-old to “engage in commercial sex acts with various individuals” … and even “set prices.” The FBI agent also claims that Rasheed Davis had taken several “almost nude” photographs of the girl on his cell phone in order to get customers. Disturbing. In federal documents, the FBI claims Davis had sent the girl text messages instructing her to have sex with a client (Lawrence Taylor) May 5, but she refused. As a result, Davis, not Taylor, physically assaulted her – explaining how LT’s accuser was attacked – “in an effort to coerce [the victim] into participating.” Lawrence Taylor faces a statutory rape charge . Davis then instructed her to tell Taylor that she was 19 and charge $300. After the alleged encounter, the agent says the victim contacted a relative via text message to ask for help. Police found Davis and he had $300 in his car. According to the docs, Davis admitted to police that he had received money from pimping out the alleged victim to Lawrence Taylor … among other guys. LT has denied, via his attorney, any wrongdoing in the case. He’s been charged with statutory rape and patronizing a prostitute. Lawrence is free on bail. That innocent-until-proven-guilty business doesn’t count when it comes to attracting customers, though. He was dumped by endorser Nutrisystem today. “We are shocked and saddened by these very serious allegations against Lawrence Taylor,” the company says in a statement. “Nutrisystem has made the decision to sever our relationship with Mr. Taylor effective immediately.” His wife, Lynette, had been scheduled to appear last night on Larry King Live but bailed at the last minute, presumably thanks to advice of LT’s lawyers.
