Ke$ha Announces Nashville Flood Benefit Concert

‘Tik Tok’ singer says the love she has for her native city is ‘beyond words.’ By Josh Wigler Ke$ha Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images The devastating flooding in Tennessee at the beginning of the month resulted in the deaths of many of the state’s residents, the widespread destruction of property and the endangerment of several animals. People across the United States are rushing to offer their support to the flood relief efforts, but it’s not just everyday Americans lending a hand. Celebrities, such as pop singer and songwriter Ke$ha, are pitching in as well. Ke$ha — a native of the flood-affected Nashville — has announced a flood benefit concert to be held June 16 at the Limelight entertainment venue in Nashville. Tickets go on sale Thursday (May 6) at 5 p.m. CT, and all the concert’s proceeds will be donated to the assistance of families and animals affected by the Tennessee floods. “I’m thrilled to announce that I will be playing a show to help benefit Nashville, my hometown,” the “Tik Tok” singer said in a press release. “100% of the profits from ticket sales will go to help the victims of these devastating floods. Nashville helped shape me as an artist and as a person, and my love for this city is beyond words. I will continue to do anything I can to help rebuild this city and support the families and animals who have been affected by this tragedy.” Tickets for Ke$ha’s flood benefit concert will start at $30. How Much Will Iron Man 2 Make This Weekend? A Movieline Mini-Roundtable

By this time tomorrow the multiplexes of the United States will be sinking into their foundations, overstuffed with millions of swooning viewers soaking up Iron Man 2 . Professional prognosticators and casual box-office observers alike take this as their cue to size up the opening weekend — particularly the film’s chance to topple The Dark Knight ‘s record $158.4 million three-day from 2008. We’re no different at Movieline, where I’ve rounded up my seasoned colleagues Kyle Buchanan, Mark Lisanti and Christopher Rosen for a brief bit of shot-calling.

‘American Idol’ Fans Predict This Year’s Winner

MTV News hits the streets of New York and finds overwhelming support for Crystal Bowersox. By Josh Wigler Photo: FOX With 17-year-old singer Aaron Kelly out of the running, the ninth season of “American Idol” finally enters the homestretch. Voters have only four candidates to root for: shaggy-haired guitarist Casey James , 27; the irrepressible Crystal Bowersox , 24; the ever-wise Lee Dewyze , 24; and second-chance singer Michael Lynche , 26. Although fans aren’t likely to agree upon a clear-cut front-runner, everyone has their favorites among the final four. To figure out who those favorite performers are, MTV News hit the streets of New York City and asked “American Idol” fans to serve up their best Simon Cowell impressions and tell us who they think will win the competition this year. “I think Casey James is going to win ‘American Idol,’ ” said one female fan in New York’s Time Square, “because he has a great voice and a great personality.” But Casey’s votes ended there, with a majority of interviewees throwing their support behind Crystal Bowersox. “I want Crystal to win ‘American Idol,’ because she’s awesome and she’s just so genuine and great,” said one fan, while a man in a banana suit (yes, you read that right) also proclaimed his loyalty to Crystal, declaring that he votes for her “every night.” “Crystal Bowersox is beautiful and has great talent,” said one young “Idol” viewer, with her mother adding: “She’s true to herself, and she’s a parent. She’s a mother, which is important as well!” Another fan weighed in on Crystal’s chances: “I think Crystal is going to win because she kind of has the edge, she has spunk, and she’s a good singer as well.” But this particular Crystal supporter was accompanied by a rival fan of Michael Lynche, who countered: “I think Big Mike is going to win, because he has an amazing voice and I love his dance moves.” “I think Michael Lynche is going to win because he’s amazing,” two friends agreed, narrowing down his finest qualities: “Everything about him: His style and his songs are amazing.” In the end, 65 percent of those polled supported Crystal, with 20 percent backing Michael and another 15 percent behind Casey. So where’s the love for Lee Dewyze? It’s hard to say, but as this poll’s results are admittedly unscientific, it’s a sure bet that Lee has his fair share of supporters lurking the streets of Manhattan. Who do you think will win “American Idol”? Let us know in the comments below! Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Gingers in Pop Culture – Are M.I.A.’s ‘Born Free’ Music Video and South Park Fighting or Promoting Racism?

Filed under: Videos , Music , Art / Design You may have missed it, but South Park had an episode a few seasons ago where Cartman decided to rally against the pale-skinned, red-haired people known as “gingers,” until Kyle and Stan put make-up on him while he was asleep so that he thought that he too was a ginger. Rather than learn the error of his ways, Cartman went in the opposite direction, rallying ginger kids to kill all the non-gingers. The episode meant to discuss and satire the idea of genocide by using a group that heretofore wasn’t looked at as ethnically unique. It also made jokes at the expense of gingers , comparing them to children of the corn and outright saying that gingers don’t have souls. Well, South Park is a popular show and many kids began using the term “ginger” to tease the pale, red-haired kids in school. One such ginger, who was a South Park fan until this episode, decided to go on YouTube and say what he thought. Seven million hits later, he has become a figure of red-haired representation. See his video after the jump. He’s mad as hell and he isn’t going to take it anymore! Of course, he must have seen the dozens of episodes where South Park said racist things about Jews, but whatever. It’s only funny when it’s happening to other people. Of course, Trey Parker couldn’t let this go unanswered… Well, since then the whole gingers-as-representation-of-minorities thing had died down, until visionary director Romain Gavras made a video for M.I.A.’s ‘Born Free,’ which depicts men in police uniforms dragging gingers from their homes. The gingers are shipped en masse to a desolate field, where they are told to run through an apparent mine field, a la Rambo 4 . The survivors are killed. The captivating video is an obvious commentary on ethnic cleansing. So few people care when it isn’t their group and it’s so seldom that white people are that group, so Gavras went the South Park route and decided to take the whitest of the white. The video is well-made and chilling. M.I.A, Born Free from ROMAIN-GAVRAS on Vimeo . Is this trend effectively making points about people’s lackluster response to human atrocities, or is it backfiring and turning pale, red-headed people into their own marginalized group? Nigeria Stole My Laptop (Internet Horror Stories)

Filed under: Internet Horror Stories I am an idiot and I can prove it. I bought a seven hundred dollar laptop off the internet. It was really high tech, good with games, and fun, but I really wanted a touch screen computer. So, I thought that I would sell my laptop and use the money to buy a very sleek and stylish touch screen one. I went on eBay and posted the price at seven hundred dollars. I was even courteous enough to drag the price down because the computer was used. My biggest mistake came knocking three hours later. A German lady had personally taken interest in the unit and was even happy enough to email me instructions on how she would buy it. The poor German lady had a son in Nigeria who needed a laptop and she was ever so thankful that I had come along. She gave me enthusiastic instructions on how to ship it using the mysterious PayPal site. Meanwhile, not a single sensor went off in my head when she overpaid shipping by one hundred dollars and constantly emailed me wondering when I was going to ship it first. The PayPal site told me to ship it and then I would get paid…so I did. Oh, how I look back on that day and weep at the stupidity of my soul. My PayPal account stayed eternally empty and Nigeria was one laptop richer. The postal service could not find it. I lie awake sometimes, thinking about how I fell for a scam almost as blatant as Viagara spam in your email. Nigeria beat me and I am not proud. Glee Star on Britney Spears Episode: Pass!

Would you like to see an all-Britney episode of Glee? After a 13.5 million viewers tuned in to the hit show’s Madonna-themed episode April 20, Britney Spears’ manager, Adam Leber, began a campaign for a Brit equivalent. In a blatant attempt to capitalize on Glee ‘s popularity and have his client associated with it, he Tweeted, “Do you guys want to see a Britney Spears episode of Glee? ” Glee spoiler alert: It’s not happening anytime soon. Asked about the possibility recently, Glee cast member Matthew Morrison said: “That’s a rumor her manager started. I hope our show doesn’t go along that route.” Matthew Morrison gleefully tells it like it is . Ouch! But hey, you gotta give Matt, who also knocked Justin Bieber down a peg recently, props for being honest. A Britney episode wouldn’t fly for many reasons. She lacks the raw number of hits as Madonna or raw singing talent of a Lady Gaga. Breathy mouthing of sexual double entendres does not a Glee episode make. Seriously, listen to Britney’s version of ” Telephone .” Case? Rested.
