Filed under: Internet Horror Stories I am an idiot and I can prove it. I bought a seven hundred dollar laptop off the internet. It was really high tech, good with games, and fun, but I really wanted a touch screen computer. So, I thought that I would sell my laptop and use the money to buy a very sleek and stylish touch screen one. I went on eBay and posted the price at seven hundred dollars. I was even courteous enough to drag the price down because the computer was used. My biggest mistake came knocking three hours later. A German lady had personally taken interest in the unit and was even happy enough to email me instructions on how she would buy it. The poor German lady had a son in Nigeria who needed a laptop and she was ever so thankful that I had come along. She gave me enthusiastic instructions on how to ship it using the mysterious PayPal site. Meanwhile, not a single sensor went off in my head when she overpaid shipping by one hundred dollars and constantly emailed me wondering when I was going to ship it first. The PayPal site told me to ship it and then I would get paid…so I did. Oh, how I look back on that day and weep at the stupidity of my soul. My PayPal account stayed eternally empty and Nigeria was one laptop richer. The postal service could not find it. I lie awake sometimes, thinking about how I fell for a scam almost as blatant as Viagara spam in your email. Nigeria beat me and I am not proud.
