Source: Kwanchai Lerttanapunyaporn / EyeEm / Getty A 19-year-old girl was killed by her brother for the most frivolous thing—a Wifi password. According to WSB-TV , in 2018 Kevon Watkins, who was 16 at the time, was charged with the death of Alexus Watkins when he strangled her after he was confronted for changing the password to the Wifi in his home. See, he was upset that too many people were using the network, which was slowing down his Xbox connection. Apparently, his mother tried to remove the Xbox from his room, but when his sister confronted him, he put her in a chokehold for 10 minutes, only letting go when the police arrived on the scene, according to witness testimony at his murder trial. Alexus was pronounced dead from asphyxiation at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, early the next morning. Earlier this week, Kevon was recently found guilty of felony murder and aggravated assault. He was spend the rest of his life in prison. Watkin’s lawyer asked for a bench trial, one where the judge makes the decision about the plantiff’s innocence, not a jury of one’s peers. Bibb County Superior Court Judge Verda Colvin told the court that she nixed manslaughter charges for felony murder because his brother tried to stop him and he kept choking his sister. “Even under the best estimation, by the time [a sheriff’s deputy] got there …. It had been at least 11 minutes that the defendant had to have been choking his sister,” Colvin said, adding, “In those 10 minutes, she had to have stopped moving. Perhaps that wasn’t noticed by the defendant because he was still angry.” Hearing sentence, Watkins and as he left the courtroom, he sobbed, muttering, “I’m sorry,” WSB noted. Source: Stephen J. Cohen / Getty When I interviewed Cynthia Bailey at the Radio One Raleigh Women’s Empowerment event in April, I asked her about her boyfriend Mike Hill and she blushed a little before gushing how they were just with each other the day before in LA. Her face lit up, this was undoubtedly a woman in love. A Real Housewives of Atlanta fan from Season One, I knew that Bailey was not the type to rush into marriage (or even really desire it); nevertheless, Mike Hill was undoubtedly about to change her mind. On stage I asked if she would ever marry Hill and she blushed and replied yes to the entire crowd oohing and ahhing. It’s such a fun piece and I loved the sleeves, my dresses are petty long and flowy and it takes a confident woman to pull it off. She looked incredible.” Naturally, I went on the website to try and score this dress, only to discover it’s sold out and no longer on site. Beauties, never fear, Sankoh shared that it will be re-stocked in September. Source: http://www.saisankoh.com / Courtesy of Sai Sankoh From parousing the website, you see beautiful African-inspired pieces and Sankoh revealed, “All my prints are custom made and most of my pieces are made in India.” When you go on the website, each piece has a description of the type of woman that’s waring it. The above is called the Maldives Goddess Kaftan ($295.00, saisankoh.com ) and describes the woman buying the piece as “a traveler who spends six months out of the year visiting foreign destinations.” Sankoh stated, “I wanted to relate to every woman: the boss lady, the full time mother that needs a vacation, the single lady that wants to have a memorable night out in Miami. When my customers read the stories they always send me feedback, like, ‘Hey, I’m a doctor and I have been so busy and I needed this vacation, and this is totally about me.” It’s the beautiful detailing in the pieces and touches like this that make this brand special. Inclusivity within the brand doesn’t just stop at what type of woman you are; Sankoh makes sure that women of all sizes can shop as well, going up to a 3XL in certain styles. Sankoh explained, “I am naturally a curvy woman, meaning I have a butt, and I love to accentuate it. All that is required to wear my pieces is confidence, and I saw a big demand for curvy women wanting glamorous travel wear, and I needed to fulfill that.” The kaftans are truly one size fit all and look great on an array of body shapes and sizes. I’m so here for glamour resort wear and diverting from the typical looks that everyone else is shopping. Custom prints mean that you will have unique looks. While Cynthia’s dress is currently sold out, here are five of my favorite pieces from the site to shop. Let me know which ones are your favorite!
Source: Raymond Hall / Getty Keke Palmer has been working with stylist Scot Louie to create some fantastic looks. The actress has joined Strahan & Sara as the third full-time co-host and you know what that means: we’ll be getting daily fashion lewks from Keke! Neon green is definitely on trend for summer and her latest look pairs the hue with black to show how you can take your summer style and upgrade it for a nice transition into Fall. View this post on Instagram Slime season. #BigBossLooks A post shared by BIG BOSS (@keke) on Aug 7, 2019 at 9:02am PDT Palmer posted a photo to her Instagram wearing a white mock neck shirt with a neon blazer paired over it and black faux leather pants. She wore black United Nude sandals with an opaque green. The green neon blazer ($44.50, asos.com ) is currently on sale and available for under $50.00. While I couldn’t find the exact faux leather black pants she wore on the Revolve site (she tagged the brand), I was able to find a great dupe ($98.00, revolve.com ). You should run to the United Nude website because her Rockit Tech Cyber mix shoes ($165.00, unitednude.com ) are currently almost 50% off! Palmer tagged her ASOS neon green jacket a week ago; however, it wasn’t in crop form. Did the beauty have this piece tailored to create a cropped look? If so, that’s a genius way to remix your summer wardrobe or upgrade a statement piece in a new way to give it a second life. It’s slime season and Keke shows us how it’s done! Source: Urban Hydration Pink Clay Whipped Facial Mud Mask / Courtesy of Urban Hydration Clay is an active ingredient in a lot of cult beauty products. Clay helps to pull impurities out of your pores and can minimize oily skin. There seems to be clay masks in almost every color: blue, green, white, and more. However, by far, pink clay masks are my favorite. It’s officially been a year since I’ve been foundation free, making my skincare routine of the utmost importance to me. I try to do masks at least 2-3 times a week, utilizing different ones for different purposes. I was gifted the Urban Hydration Pink Clay Whipped Mud Facial Mask ($9.99, urbanhydration.com ) and I use this mask about every other week to help keep my skin looking flawless and excess oil at bay. Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Danielle James This mask contains kaolin clay which is great if you have normal skin. I have “normal” skin and sometimes it’s hard to find products that cater to me. The packaging does call out “great for sensitive skin”, which it is because Kaolin clay absorbs oil and toxins from your skin but doesn’t do it too harshly. When applying the mask, after a few minutes, I can feel a slight tingle. It’s working! I’ve been using this mask for about three months and I’ve noticed each time I use it my skin seems brighter and has a natural looking glow. It makes my skin feel really clean and healthy. You want to keep it on for about 15-20 minutes, this allows the oil from your skin to absorb into the mask. Kaolin clay is known to be one of the gentler clay formulas, the silica-based formula also contains trace minerals to help nourish your skin. The Urban Hydration formula also contains beeswax and Vitamin E. If you are acne prone, this mask will also be a game changer for you. Beeswax has anti-inflammatory properties and will help soothe any popped pimples (don’t pop your pimples) or acne that is healing. It also creates a thin layer between your skin without clogging your pores, but protecting your skin from the elements. It also promotes cell reconstruction, so paired with exfoliating, it’s great for cell turnover. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can help protect your skin from free radicals and reduce the damage from UV rays. I love that this mask is pre-mixed. I had tried another “rose” clay mask but they wanted me to add water and I know it’s just one small step; however, after a long day at work, sometimes I just want to be able to slap something on. The formula feels rich, thick and luxurious. For under $10.00, it feels like a mini-spa treatment for your face. The jar gives you about 8-10 uses. You can probably get more, but I’m a bit heavy handed. Lastly, another thing I love about this product is it’s year-round-use. It’s great in summer to help fight sun damage and clogged pores but also great in winter when your skin needs a little boost of moisture. This brand is created by a Black woman who also donates 1 gallon of water for every product you buy. I love beauty with a mission. This is definitely a product that will be a mainstay in my beauty cabinet! Have you tried a pink clay mask? What about Urban Hydration’s formula? Sound off in the comment section. Source: Alex Wong / Getty If you have been using Instagram or Twitter for years, you are well aware of the fake followers. A new report is now detailing just how bad it really is, and there are big celebrities who have a lot of them. The report from ICMP highlighted the ridiculous amount of fake followers celebrities have on the social media platform. The investigation was broken down into categories about what each star does. Ellen DeGeneres topped the showbiz category with most fake followers listed at 58%. Following her is the mega-popular K-pop band BTS with 48%, Kourtney Kardashian and Taylor Swift both at 49% and Ariana Grande’s 46%. Other notable names on the list include both Kim and Khloe Kardashian who also have a lot of fake Instagram followers listed at 44%. Seasonless twerker and habitual culture vulture Miley Cyrus clocks in at 45%. Mr. “I like my chips with the dip,” Drake appeared in the report with 38%. As far as sports stars are concerned, Soccer’s most prominent names in the game top the list. Toni Kroos of Real Madrid topped the report overall with a whopping 57% of fake followers following him. His teammates Isco Alarcon Suarez (54%) and Luka Modric (50%) are right behind him. Going through the full report, it shows in great detail no celebrity is safe from picking up fake followers. Even Beyoncé is on the list with 31%, but as long as she is not in the top right? Anyway, we just hope no one this list is actually purchasing these fake followers, that would be the ultimate sin. Source: Way Out West Festival Sweden – Day 1 – Performances Featuring: Migos, Quavo Where: Gothenburg, Sweden When: 10 Aug 2017 Credit: Emelie Andersson/WENN.com Hip-Hop has come a long way from the days when rappers making cameos in big time Hollywood movies and TV shows were considered a huge deal for the culture. Nowadays not only are rappers doing their thing on the silver screen and on the tube, but they’re also getting in on the animation game. Just a few months after Vince Staples’ Adult Swim project Lazor Wulf was announced, the Migos’ Quavo broke the news that he and Imagine Entertainment’s co-founder Brian Grazer are working together on an animation project inspired by Atlanta’s Hip-Hop scene. According to Complex the ATLien and Grazer are set to executive-produce a “transformative franchise” but unlike the mature content found in Staples’ Lazor Wulf , Quavo’s vision is being crafted to accommodate the children of the culture. “I have long seen how hip-hop as well as our music (Migos) really impacts kids,” Quavo said in a press release Thursday announcing the new animated franchise series aimed at kids ages 8-12. “I’ve loved animation my whole life whether on TV or in movies and I wanted my first jump into this premium content world to be a show just for kids. It will definitely reflect the creativity, love, and families in and around the NAWF side of Atlanta where we grew up.” The series will draw from the Atlanta hip-hop scene and marks a partnership between Imagine’s Marginal Mediaworks, Imagine Kids+Family, Quality Control Music, and Motown. Quality Control’s Pierre “Pee” Thomas and Kevin “Coach K” Lee will produce alongside Dan Altmann and Capitol Music Group’s Brian Nolan and Ryan Allingham. Sounds like Quavo and company are about to fill a space needed for the kids who don’t have many cartoons to choose from that they can relate to. Coach K said as much when sharing his thoughts on the upcoming project. “When I was growing up there was very little media that had brown and black skinned kids feeling heard or seen and the ones that did stood out and served as a crucial roadmap through our childhoods,” he said. “I’m about inclusive stories that address all kinds of situations that kids of ALL ethnic and financial backgrounds experience and to give them a common tool to learn and grow.” No word yet on when the series will premier but expect some original music and merchandise to accompany it’s release when the time comes.
