Source: Jason Kempin / Getty Will Smith And Queen Latifah To Release A Hip-Hop Musical Hip-hop legends Will Smith and Queen Latifah are slated to produce a contemporary musical version of Romeo & Juliet for Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporte r . Solvan “Slick” Naim–who has directed episodes for a number of TV popular shows, including Animal Kingdom , Power , The Blacklist , The Get Down , and Blindspot –has been tapped to direct the project. This upcoming movie is supposed to be a contemporary musical take on William Shakespeare’s famous tragedy. The film is expected to be set against “the urban rhythms of New York,” and will tell the story of a young waitress from of Brooklyn opposite an aspiring musician from a wealthy family, whose unconventional romance will “force them to confront their life choices.” This project is going to reunite Queen Latifah and Will Smith, who worked together on The Fresh Price of Bel-Air so many years back–which also happened to be Queen’s very first acting gig. Latifah and Shakim Compere will produce via their Flavor Unit Entertainment banner, along with Broome and Yong Yam for 25/7 Productions. Source: Paul Marotta / Getty C hris Rock is the latest comedian looking to give a new perspective on horror as he’ll be executive producing and co-writing a script for a new S aw movie. The actor and Def Jam Comedy alum will be teaming up with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures for a Saw film with a release date scheduled for October 23, 2020. “I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004,” Rock tells Deadline . “I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.” Rock wrote the screenplay for the film, which will then be adapted by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. Rock will executive produce the film with Lionsgate. Joe Drake, Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group chairman, was ecstatic about the news for another Saw installment. “When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in,” Drake said. “ Saw is one of the highest-grossing horror franchises of all-time, and it’s one of Lionsgate’s most successful film series. This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous Saw films.” There appears to be a trend of comedic minds using their ideas in a darker fashion. Current horror titan Jordan Peele has directed two of the highest grossing films in the genre, 2017 ‘s Get Out and 2019’s Us, carving a new lane for directors of color in the genre. Rock looks to be the next name to try his hand with fear with a fresh twist to it. “Chris wants to put his own spin on the Saw franchise in the way Eddie Murphy put a completely fresh perspective on buddy-cop films with 48 Hours,” longtime series producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules tells Deadline . “This new Saw is going to be an event film in the making for horror fans. It will have all of the twists and turns and hardcore layers that our fans expect directed by one of the masters of the craft, Darren Lynn Bousman. We can’t wait to get started.”

That was the case for one New England man who went to the hospital with severe abdominal pains only to have a nurse not consider it an emergency — claiming that the man was “obese and had stopped taking blood pressure medicines.” But quite the contrary. It turns out that the 32-year old unidentified man was in labor , and wound up giving birth to a stillborn baby that same day. According to Dr. Daphna Stroumsa of the University of Michigan, this incident points to a greater issue regarding transgender people and healthcare. “The point is not what’s happened to this particular individual but this is an example of what happens to transgender people interacting with the health care system. He was rightly classified as a man” in the medical records and appears masculine, Stroumsa said. “But that classification threw us off from considering his actual medical needs.” The man revealed to the nurse that he was transgender when he arrived at the emergency room. He even disclosed that he was he hadn’t had a period in several years and had been taking testosterone. Unfortunately, he had to quit taking the hormone and blood pressure medication after he lost insurance. “Several hours later, a doctor evaluated him and the hospital test confirmed pregnancy. An ultrasound showed unclear signs of fetal heart activity, and an exam revealed that part of the umbilical cord had slipped into the birth canal. Doctors prepared to do an emergency cesarean delivery, but in the operating room no fetal heartbeat was heard. Moments later, the man delivered a stillborn baby.” Clearly, the healthcare system has to do more to raise medical awareness. SMH.
