Email Submit Cardi’s Cinderella story begins on Instagram, where the Bronx star would take to the platform to “tell it how it is” in a series of hilarious rants. Her social media fame and millions of followers opened the doors for her success on VH1’s ‘Love & Hip Hop’ series. Through her stint on TV, we learned that the former stripper was seeking a career in rapping, and eventually left the franchise to pursue her dream. To the entire world’s surprise, Cardi became a pop culture phenom, scoring award after award and hit after hit. But now, exhausted from the microscope of celebrity, Cardi is seeking to return to her roots as the ‘regular degular’ girl who didn’t feel pressured by society’s opinion of her. One fan took to Twitter to tell the new mom that she doesn’t like the message she sends to young girls. “I love you ALOT but I don’t agree with the messages you’ve been sending us young girls. So many of us look at you as a role model and that should send a very loud message,” the Twitter user wrote. I love you ALOT but I don't agree with the messages you've been sending us young girls. I been feeling trap and sad cause it’s not ME but everybody tell me to be it for me to be this “role model” and guess what? People still spit my past right in my face so for now imma be my old self again,” she explained. In the clip, you see workers taking down the Kodak Black art installation while attendees watched, but the footage abruptly ends after a security guard told the person to stop recording. It’s nice to see T.I. following up on his promises to hold the Florida native accountable for his controversial actions. The removal of Kodak’s presence from the museum comes after Tip called him out for shooting his shot at Lauren London on Instagram live less than a week after Nipsey Hussle passed away. During an Instagram live video on Monday, Kodak seemingly responded to being removed from the museum and—surprise surprise—he didn’t seem to think it was that big of a deal. The rapper remarked, “B**ch, I didn’t give you permission to put me up there anyways.” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://rickeysmileymorningshow.com” id=”1987759″ overlay=”true”] ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : Lauren London Breaks Silence On Nipsey’s Death Someone Leaked A Photo Of Jay Z and Beyonce’s Kids! Cathy Hughes Becomes First Black Woman Inducted Into The NAB Hall Of Fame Radio Category

Original post:

Source: Cathy Hughes / UrbanOne Cathy Hughes continues to make strides in radio. The UrbanOne founder was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame, making her the first Black woman to be inducted into the radio category. Per the official press release, Hughes grew Urban One, formerly known as Radio One, into the largest African-American owned, diversified media corporation in the nation. The company is an urban market leader with 59 broadcast stations across the country. As such, Hughes became the first woman to own a radio station that was ranked number one in a major market. Today, the company is run by Alfred Liggins III, Hughes’ son. Urban One, Inc. also owns TV One, a television network serving more than 60 million households, and maintains controlling interest in Reach Media, Inc. (blackamericaweb.com), which provides several syndicated programs, including the “Tom Joyner Morning Show.” The company also provides social content, news, information and entertainment through its digital platform, iOne Digital, with popular websites including “Cassius” and “Bossip.” Urban One maximizes its reach to more than 80 percent of the African-American market by offering cross-platform marketing opportunities with its marketing firm, One Solution. Hughes began her radio career at KOWH-AM in her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. In 1971, she became a lecturer at the newly established School of Communications at Howard University in Washington, D.C. During her tenure, Hughes served as general sales manager at WHUR-FM, Howard University Radio, increasing the station’s revenue from $250,000 to $3 million in her first year. She also became the first woman vice president and general manager of a station in the nation’s capital and created the format known as the “Quiet Storm,” which revolutionized urban radio and was aired on over 480 stations nationwide. In 1980, Hughes purchased her flagship station WOL-AM, in Washington D.C. and pioneered yet another innovative format known as “24-Hour Talk From a Black Perspective.” “Cathy Hughes is a truly remarkable broadcaster and entrepreneur whose contributions continue to greatly influence and drive our industry,” said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. “We look forward to honoring Cathy with this well-deserved award at this year’s NAB Show.” In addition to her professional career, Hughes continues her family’s work and legacy at The Piney Woods School in Mississippi, which was established by her grandfather in 1909. The school is the largest of only four African-American boarding schools in the country. She also advocates on behalf of the homeless and minority communities, in addition to mentoring countless women. We salute our Founder and Chairperson, Cathy Hughes, on her induction into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame.  Congratulations on this well-deserved honor. Source: Jeffrey Mayer / Getty Tasha Smith may appear to be the epitome of stability and focus, but the Empire actress says that wasn’t always the case. Instead, when she was young, she claims she frequently dabbled in cocaine. On the March 29 episode of TV One’s Uncensored , the actress opened up about being a teenage single mother in Camden, NJ and being sucked into a life of drugs after dealing with a lifetime of abuse. “As beautiful as Camden was, it was a place where I dealt with sexual, physical abuse, a place where I did all kinds of drugs,” she said. “I was doing cocaine at the age of 14. I really could have been a crackhead today.” Wow. And while she faced a lot of adversity, the 48-year-old said even back then as a 15-year-old she recognized that the city gave her a sense of resilience as she hustled her way out. “[Camden] was also a place that gave me a lot of resilience, perseverance and hustle.” Eventually she moved to Los Angeles and began working as a comedian and actress, getting tapped by Tyler Perry to play in films such as “Why Did I Get Married.” “We all have situations to overcome, but you don’t quit,” she said. “You keep trying.” On a recent episode of the Wendy Williams Show , Tasha also joked about her past as a stripper, saying that if she had to strip now, she couldn’t make it. “Sis, it’s so funny when I hear myself talk about stripping because honestly if I had to strip today, honey I wouldn’t make it.” Adding, “I mean, I’m not that good. I knew how to shake my ass, and because back then you didn’t have all the booty injections.” “You didn’t have to do an acrobatic trick on the pole, honey. All that I needed…as soon as that top came off, I got the bag.” Tune into Uncensored on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TV One. ***Editor’s Note: HelloBeautiful is owned by Urban One , which also owns TV One. Sike: 6 Mythical Creatures Every 90’s Kid Believed Were Real

Source: Splash News / Splash News We all need a little magic in our lives, which is why there are still people in the world who believe that one day, they’ll own a Unicorn. Today is National Unicorn Day, which was created to celebrate these majestic, mythical creatures and “help adults remember how much more fun life can be when we let a little magic in sometimes.” But when and where did the magical myth of Unicorns begin? According to Daysoftheyear.com: “Unicorns were mentioned as far back as antiquity—ancient Greek writers believed they lived in the faraway and exotic country of India, which was then largely unknown to Europeans. However, the unicorn was then thought to be a powerful, fierce animal that was not to be meddled with. In the Middle Ages, the unicorn’s image was based greatly on Bible passages that were thought to speak of these animals, and unicorns slowly came to be seen as a symbol of strength, the purest kind of love, and the pets of virgin women.” Usually, people celebrate National Unicorn Day by making some brightly colored pancakes or cupcakes and decorating them with multicolored sprinkles or glitter. Another way to celebrate is to watch a classic fantasy film that makes you feel like your magical, childlife self again. “Unicorn Store is the best movie I’ve ever seen, my favorite movie ever. Good night.” -@KingTurner777 “The trailer for Unicorn Store does not do it justice. It’s very nice and lovely and probably my favorite movie I’ve seen this year so far. It gave me the same pure feelings Eighth Grade gave me last year.”- @EvanNotEven WIth the rise of social media, folks are getting creative with the celebrations.  Folks are dying their hair, rocking colorful makeup and even selling Unicorn themed products.
