Meghan McCain Disrespects Joy Behar On ‘The View’ & The Internet Slowly Dissects Her Conservative Mediocrity

Read the original:

Source: Lou Rocco / Getty The distinction between juicy political debate and just plain rudeness was up for question this week when The View co-host Meghan McCain made a snide comment that set off social media. The daytime show is known for its unapologetic co-hosts whose opinions range from liberal to conservative on various issues. Naturally, with such varying views, things can get a little spicy. However, the tension reached flaming hot temperatures on Monday when the women discussed Kirstjen Nielsen leaving her position as Homeland Security Secretary. Nielsen will be replaced by the current Customs and Border Protection commissioner Kevin McAleenan in an interim position. The moves McAleenan make could shape the U.S.’ southwest border patrol. Currently, Trump thinks there’s a crisis at the border with illegal immigration, prompting outrageous moves such as family seperations and the demand for a billion dollar wall . The women of The View discussed this, but unfortunately things got a little uncivil when Joy was making a point about helping Central American countries instead of demonizing their residents trying to enter the U.S. Behar was trying to finish her point in the most coolest, calmness way possible when Ms. McCain interrupted her. Behar then replied, “I listened to you, let me just finish.” Again… IN THE MOST COOLEST, CALMEST WAY. But McCain all of a sudden had a chip on her shoulder and replied, “Part of your job is to listen to me.” WITH THE ADDED HAIR FLIP. The audience was in shock. It was only by the grace of Whoopi Goldberg that the tense moment didn’t go any further. “So here’s the deal, here’s what’s not going to happen today,” Goldberg told the table. “We’re not gonna do this. Everybody gets a conversation piece, everybody gets to say their piece, and we don’t need to comment if we don’t like what we’re hearing. Just let folks talk.” Peep the interaction for yourself below starting at the 4:53 mark.   Oh Ms. Behar… The tact. The tranquility. THE PATIENCE. Behar looked like she was about to set it off, but she kept it cool and let Whoopi’s interceding powers save Meghan’s life. Despite a cordial end to the conversation, the Internet was NOT about to let Meghan off the hook that easily. Some questioned her presence at the table in the first place… I still don’t understand what value Meghan McCain brings to any table… Whoopi looks like she is tired of her shit. pic.twitter.com/vAQdLCMgOa — Oskaer (@Osman__13) April 8, 2019   Some went full-on lecture… I am so sick of watching meghan bully joy!. Im so glad whoopi was there to stop her but my time is valuable and im not going to spend it watching this person behave like a discusting spoiled brat. Meek Mill And Lawmakers Propose Probation Reform Bill

See the original post here:

P hiladelphia-bred hip-hip artist Meek Mill has become a fierce advocate for criminal justice reform. The rapper—whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams —is pushing his fight against the unjust system forward by joining forces with lawmakers to propose a probation and parole reform bill, the Chicago Crusader reported. REFORM Alliance, @MeekMill 's criminal justice reform organization, proposes Pennsylvania bill reforming probation & parole system https://t.co/ISyzZpkmQt pic.twitter.com/wdxoS7VsV8 — billboard (@billboard) April 2, 2019 The bill is an initiative led by the REFORM Alliance; a group created by Williams, Jay-Z , Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin , Nets co-owner Clara Wu Tsai and Patriots owner Robert Kraft . The alliance was formed to unite leaders across different industries so that they can work towards changing the landscape of our country’s unjust judicial system by shifting laws and policies related to probation and parole. The REFORM Alliance aims to free at least 1 million individuals within the next five years. Through the proposed bipartisan bill—which was unveiled by Williams, Rubin, Rep. Sheryl Delozier , Rep. Jordan Harris , and Van Jones in Philadelphia this week—courts would be prohibited from giving an individual consecutive probation sentences. Courts would also be barred from extending probation and parole sentences if an individual is facing financial hardships and is unable to pay fees and fines. There are other measures featured in the bill including the prevention of reincarceration for an offender who associates with an individual who has a criminal past or tests positive for marijuana and rewards for good behavior. Williams’ own experiences with the criminal justice system have inspired him to lead this initiative, especially in Pennsylvania. He was re-imprisoned for miniscule probation violations and received a two-to-four-year sentence in 2017 which sparked the #FreeMeek movement. After he was released he made it his mission to reach back and help other individuals who were in the same predicament but didn’t have the same platform. “This proposed bill is the first step in changing the criminal justice system and it’s only right that we start in my home state,” Williams said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I’ve lost too much time away from my son, my family, my friends and fans in Philly because of outdated probation laws, so I want to make sure people don’t have to go through what I did.” Pieces of legislation like the one that he and other leaders are introducing are needed. According to the REFORM Alliance, Pennsylvania has the third highest rate of community supervision in the country costing $200 million each year. Furthermore, there are currently 296,000 people on parole or probation within the state. First Black Student To Attend Elon University Awarded With Honorary Degree

View post:

A Black woman who broke racial barriers at Elon University was honored by the North Carolina-based institution on Thursday. Glenda Phillips Hightower —the first Black student to be accepted into the school—received an honorary doctorate degree, the Times-News reported. The trail-blazer that led to integration at Elon will receive an Honorary Doctorate during Spring Convocation. Glenda Phillips Hightower entered Elon in the Fall of 1963 beginning a strong rich legacy of black students at Elon. https://t.co/OoZWm99HhH — Elon Black Alumni Network (@ElonBlackAlumni) March 15, 2019 Hightower enrolled 56 years ago during the Jim Crow era. J. Earl Danieley —who served as the university’s president at the time—gave her a full scholarship. Although Hightower was a full-time student she wasn’t allowed to dorm on campus due to her race. While trying to pursue her degree she often faced discrimination from students and faculty. Hightower persevered because she knew that her journey at the school was something bigger than herself and that her presence on campus mattered. She was leading the way for generations of Black students coming behind her and she truly valued education. During her sophomore year, she had to withdraw from the school due to health-related issues. She ended up relocating to Washington, D.C. and took courses at Howard University, George Washington University and Georgetown. A few years later she moved to Iowa and earned a nursing and general science degree from the University of Iowa in 1974. Although she didn’t complete her degree at Elon, the school wanted to honor Hightower for her commitment to changing the racial landscape and opening up doors for other Black students. “Throughout her life, Glenda Phillips Hightower has persevered and chosen the path of love and sacrifice over bitterness,” L’Tanya Richmond , who serves as the school’s Director of Minority Affairs, said in a statement. “In the process, she has changed Elon and paved the way for thousands of Black students, faculty and staff to follow in her footsteps.” Hightower was humbled by the honor. ″‘Thank you’ is woefully inadequate to express to you my gratitude, my humility, my honor and my great satisfaction at being included in a celebration of education and grandness. I didn’t recognize it as leadership at the time, but I certainly am glad that it’s interpreted as leadership.” Universities across the country are honoring former Black graduates who trailblazed paths for students of color. In 2018, Brown University announced that it would rename one of its buildings after the first Black students to graduate from the institution. 5 Budget-Friendly Festivals To Attend This Year If You Can’t Afford Coachella

Original post:

Source: Josh Brasted / Getty It’s that time of year again when major FOMO starts to kick in for every millennial who can’t afford to ball out and take a trip to Coachella. Curators bank on people’s fear of missing out on something cool and fun to drive ticket sells — and sadly, it works every time. “The Coachella fomo is already real and it hasn’t even started yet lmao”- @alyssayayyaa “Mentally preparing myself for the Coachella fomo I’m about to have next weekend…” _katethegreat When people your age are spending almost thousands of dollars to travel to a desert to party with “cool people”, wear dope, expensive gear (usually appropriating native american culture), it makes you think that you’re doing something totally wrong with your life. “Some of my friends are at Coachella, and most of my friends are at the Spring Game. Meanwhile, I slept for 10 hours.” @Mariahkoneke But how much is Coachella actually costing folks? As Gobankingrates.com pointed out, when considering attending Coachella, you might focus on the cost of passes, but you’ll also need to plan for the cost of food, drinks and lodging while at the festival. Lodging: Various nearby hotels offer festival packages. Prices include the hotel stay, shuttle service and passes for either two or four people and start at $2,445 for two people and go up to $7,899 for four people. Food: The cost of food and drinks will depend on the vendors you choose or if you opt to prepare your own meals. The most expensive food option is a four-course Outstanding in the Field dinner, made by the finest chefs, which is available for $225 per person. If you’re lucky, you can find passes on the low from $380-$500. And depending on whether or not you’re coming from out of states, those flights can be expensive as hell. Oh and don’t forget about the alcohol — that’s another bill in itself.  The people who have the money spare no expense on having a good time. But for the ones who don’t have it like that, don’t fret! There are plenty more affordable lituations that are just as dope as Coachella. Hit the flip for some budget-friendly festivals you can attend this year.
