Tia Mowry is close to hitting her postpartum weight-loss goal, which is something worth celebrating due to the commitment required to make that happen. But instead of focusing on a number on the scale, she talked about the journey it has been to slim down her way, in her own time. Of course, we are in snapback culture, where many women feel the need to try and lose weight soon after giving birth or show off quick results weeks after delivery to impress followers and big-up themselves. It’s that culture that the 41-year-old says left her being fat-shamed during and after her pregnancy with daughter Cairo when she didn’t lose weight as fast as other people thought she should have. So she wanted to send a message while sharing her progress. SEE ALSO: Tia Mowry-Hardrict’s Baby Girl Cairo Is Adorable [PHOTOS] “Checking in. #17months post pregnant. I did it my way and in my time,” she said. “Many women feel the need to #snapback right away after they deliver. That was never the goal for me. I was called #fat during my #pregnancy and I was called #fat after my #pregnancy. Why do we do this to each other? Instead of #love one another other? I will never understand that. I intentionally documented my journey and became vulnerable to show #women that it’s okay to go at your own pace, it is okay to love yourself no matter where you are in your journey. Do not fold to societal pressures. After hard work with just diet and exercise, today I’m closer to my goal. Do I have loose skin and stretch marks? YES. Guess what?? I LOVE all me and I want you to love all of you too.” Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). In September of last year, months after having Cairo, she said she entered the gym again to feel her best, not to look anything like what someone else thought she should after having a baby. “For me, it’s not about being vain. You know what I mean?” she told E! “It’s not about trying to look great; it’s about trying to feel great. And if that takes five to six months to a year to feel like myself, then so be it. It’s not about trying to hurry up and get into the gym and get that six-pack. It’s kind of like how it was with my first child. I’m just taking everything as it goes. If I lose 5 lbs. here, then great. If I don’t? Oh, well.” “I’m just really taking my time, and I really want to be an example out there for women, that it’s OK if you don’t lose weight fast or rather quickly,” she added. “It’s OK if you still have a belly bump. That’s what happens. It’s natural. It’s normal. You don’t have to kill yourself trying to get to some place that takes time. I’m about focusing on my babies and enjoying her growth.” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://rickeysmileymorningshow.com” id=”2008586″ overlay=”true”] ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : Legendary Actress From ‘A Different World’ Passes Away Tatyana Ali & Her Husband Welcome Baby Number Two [PHOTOS] Tisha Campbell Details Childhood Rape By Babysitter [VIDEO] This story was originally published on MadameNoire.com . Source: Jayne Kamin-Oncea / Stringer / Getty 2019 has been one hell of a year for Deontay Wilder — and it looks like things are getting even better for boxing champ. According to reports, the WBC Heavyweight is set to guest star on an upcoming episode of CBS’ MAGNUM P.I. In Friday night’s episode, entitled “Knights Last Forever”, Kumu and Higgins are in danger when Robin’s Nest is under siege by mercenaries storming the estate in order to find out the true identity of the White Knight, Robin’s muse and literary hero. Also, Rick and T.C. helps one of Rick’s employees (played by Deontay Wilder) when his car is stolen, and Higgins finally gives Magnum an answer about if she’ll become his partner. With so many wonderful things happening for his career right now, it’s amazing that Wilder has time to be a television star too. But in his own words, athletes have done it before, and they still are “to this day!” Check out this behind the scenes clip of Deontay spending another day in paradise on the set of Magnum P.I . Acting very well may be apart of this guy’s future. Deontay is pretty much good at anything he sets his mind to. “People have to realize that God has blessed me with power. He hasn’t got me this far for no reason. I feel like God has a plan for me in this sport. That’s how I have came up this fast.” Catch Wilder tonight on Magnum P.I. tonight @ 9PM ET on CBS.

Source: Sasha Nialla / Courtesy of NABU We all know that reading is fundamental; however, it’s also important for children to see themselves in the stories that they read. In 2017, only 7% of children’s books were published by Black, LatinX or indigenous authors. As we move towards a more diverse population, the lack of representation across the diaspora in books is appalling. Non-profit organization NABU saw this inconsistency and decided to help close the diversity gap with NABU Publishing. Source: NABU Team Photo / Courtesy of NABU NABU Publishing is founded by Taniya Benedict, Tanyella Evans, and Isabel Shein. Together these women are making sure that reading is not only accessible but also representative of marginalized communities. Benedict who is the Director of Global Operations and Programs shared, “The significance of seeing one’s reality in a storybook, should not be taken lightly. When you grow up reading in your mother-tongue, and actively seeing yourself represented in illustrations, you develop self-confidence that is unbound and powerful. You begin to believe that you are the creator of your own destiny, and this intrinsic belief ultimately leads to self-actualization.” Currently, only 13% of children’s books published in the US in the last 25 years contain any kind of multicultural content. NABU publishing is actively changing this. The publishing company was birthed when the co-creators of NABU realized how much talent was in Haiti and Rwanda. They created a network of authors and illustrators who are creating engaging children’s stories for their respective local markets (and in their local languages) to help increase and encourage literacy amongst children. NABU Publishing is helping to take this a step further by translating the stories into bilingual English editions for the US children’s book market. This is incredible for second generation children and parents who want to make sure their children have diverse books or books with characters represented from their home country. Source: NABU Book / Courtesy of NABU Every month, they will be releasing two new children’s books from up and coming authors and illustrators. To launch their program, today, on International Day Of The Girl, NABU Publishing chose two stories from their Haitian collection: Princess Maniya and Lila Plays Soccer. The books feature the original Haitian Creole and English translation side by side and strong girl protagonists. What a way to promote and encourage bilingual behavior amongst children! Given that NABU is a non-profit, the proceed from the books will fund NABU’s early childhood literacy work in Haiti as well as enable them to commission more creatives to create books in their language. Source: NABU Book / Courtesy of NABU The organization is even going a step further by utilizing a one-to-one model. For each book that is sold, NABU will give a free digital copy to children in Haiti who are reading on tablets and smartphones. If you look on the back of each book, you’ll find a QR code and readers can see a live tracking of how many pages children in the NABU programs have read! So cool. There are over 7,000 languages spoken in the world today and almost half of them are in danger of extinction. For Black communities, story telling has often been a way of passing down traditions, history and more. This is the direct way that culture survives. By creating NABU Publishing, the organization is encouraging the preservation of languages, traditions, and overall culture so that the next generation can benefit and thrive. While your children may have access to books, there are many that do not. Purchase a copy for your child here and a digital copy will be sent to a child in Haiti. If you want to go a step further, you can donate $50.00 to NABU and it gives one child and their family access to reading materials in their mother tongue. If $50.00 is too much at the moment, you can donate $7.00 a month (that’s less than your Spotify subscription), which will give one hour of reading a day for a child. Click here to donate . We love organizations that support young Black girls to see themselves, their strength, and their potential. Learning fundamental life skills and resilience through reading is an easy way to build our next doctors, lawyers, engineers, CEO’s and Presidents. You can find out more information at www.nabu.org . Source: FayesVision/WENN.com / WENN Well, Fresh Prince fans, looks like Will Smith is doing more than bringing Bel-Air Academy clothing to your lives – he’s reportedly developing a spin-off to the popular NBC sitcom. The Hollywood Reporter shared info that Smith is overseeing the development of a new Fresh Prince of Bel-Air spinoff series. Even better? Westbrook – the new company overseen by Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith – will be handling production. The original show aired from 1990 to 1996, co-created by Quincy Jones and saw Smith rise as a magnetic personality on TV. Back then, Smith portrayed a fictionalized version of himself alongside the late James Avery (first things first, rest in peace Uncle Phil), Janet Hubert, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons and more. Source: Estrop / Getty Gucci can’t seem to keep to themselves out of trouble. The brand most recently was in trouble for a sweater that resembled Black face and now they are in the hot seat again. Whew chile, where is Dapper Dan ?! Alessandro Michele, the Creative Director for Gucci, presented his Spring 2020 collection in Milan and while the clothes were well received, a certain accessory, less so. An anklet went down the runway but it wasn’t just any anklet. The anklet features “golden bullets” which are actually Gucci Beauty lipsticks; however, the design looks more like an ankle monitor or individuals on house arrest. For things to go into production, it often goes through several rounds of approval. The fact that this made it from in house to runway lets me know that there probably weren’t many (if any) Black people who were a part of the decision making process. While Gucci has promised to come up with new diversity and inclusion and even hired an exec for the position, if people of color are not placed in high levels throughout the organization, things like this happen. Gucci has been lucky it has not been damaging to the brand, especially when Black spending power reaches $1.2 trillion dollars. It may be in part because of their close relationship with Dapper Dan and celebrities like Beyoncé; however, for how long will their social currency protect them? Consumers took to Twitter to express their displeasure and confusion from the brand. We rounded up some of our favorite responses. Keep on clicking to see them all. Beauties, we want to know what you think? Was this out of line or an honest mistake? Are you still rocking with Gucci? Sound off in the comment section below.
Source: 4×6 / Getty In the words of Kanye West , you may be “rocking Forever 21 buy ya just turned 30.” If you’re feeling it’s time to upgrade the quality of your clothes, but your pockets are preventing you from heading into the upper echelon of the clothing, then you will want to continue reading. As sustainability becomes more of a hot topic and people are trying to make choices better for the environment, reducing (or completely stopping) your fast fashion shopping, is at the top of the list. Unfortunately, sustainable shopping is honestly, more expensive upfront (and less expensive in the long run). I explain to people that there is truly nothing that costs $5.00. If an item is cheap, someone is paying for it. It may be the individual who made it (lack of fair wages or working conditions) or it may be in the form of the fabric choice (polyester is one of the worst fabrics for the environment as they are made from petrochemicals and non-biodegradable). If you’re on a budget or of lower socio-economic status, you may think that sustainable shopping is not for you. This is not true! There are many options to help you stay on trend and think first about the environment. Keep reading for tips.
Source: Adriana M. Barraza/WENN.com / WENN Many people know Billy Porter for his Emmy-winning role as Pray Tell on the FX show Pose or his Tony-winning role as Lola in the Broadway musical Kinky Boots . But before he was owning the red carpet in skyscraping hats or glittering gold wings , he was crooning to some sophisticated lady friend for his 1997 music video “Show Me.” His powerful Tony-winning pipes were just as present in 1997 when he was hitting notes to the high heavens in honor of his buttery brown beauty. And yes, the song is also a bop. Watch Porter serve 1990s realness in the video below. The song is from Porter’s 1997 self-titled album , which also includes such gems as “True Love,” “Love Is on the Way,” and “I Am a Spy”. Although Porter has always spent much of his life on the stage playing in theater shows like Dreamgirls and Angels In America , Porter has also been providing his gifts to recorded music. Along with his self-titled album, he’s also released Billy Porter Presents: The Soul of Richard Rodgers in 2017 and the Broadway-themed albums At The Corner of Broadway + Soul in 2005 and Billy’s Back On Broadway in 2014. So once again, Mr. Porter isn’t new to this, he’s true to this. If we’re going by the 1997 bops alone, we need another adult contemporary R&B album. Tomorrow.
