Source: Pool / Getty R. Kelly will at least be in jail until his 2020 trial after an attempt to go free on bail was shot down by a Brooklyn federal judge on Wednesday (October 2). The troubled R&B star’s legal team filed a motion on Monda y (September 30) stating that Kelly was in poor financial shape and not a flight risk but the judge in the case detected a bit of b.s. in the air. As reported by the New York Daily News , Federal Justice Ann M. Donnelly sided with the prosecution’s assessment that Kelly was indeed a flight risk and that home detention was too lenient a move considering the mountain of charges he faces and an alleged history of obstructing justice in his favor. Kelly’s defense attorney Steven Greenberg has said several times in court that his client is cash-strapped and suffering from alleged health woes. Adding to that, Kelly is only allowed one visitor at a time which has caused a bottleneck of visitation between his two girlfriends, Azriel Clary and Joycelyn Savage. The prosecution presented bail hearing charges that Kelly has been hiding massive royalty checks numbering to an amount near to $1 million and funneling the funds through the bank account of a childhood friend. Kelly was not present in court on Wednesday as he’s currently housed in a Chicago jail. Kelly’s sex crime case is set to take place on May 2020. — Photo: Getty
Source: Home Picture Isis King / Isis King For this year’s Emmys, “When They See Us” actress Isis King found herself in a bit of a predicament. While she knew she would be attending the after-parties , she hadn’t planned on attending the actual event, until she got a call days before the awards show. “Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD asked me to attend the Emmys with her. I was excited, but I didn’t have anything to wear for it!” King told HelloBeautiful. So what was she do? First, she was out of town in Iowa for the 2019 LGBTQ Presidential Forum , her stylist was out of commission and her schedule was packed, so spending time shopping for a new dress and getting it fitted just wasn’t going to work. Looking at pictures of her gorgeous gown, she did something to look so good. What was her secret? Well, last week on social media, the transgender actress shared she did what she does best: Made it work. “People have asked about my #Emmys dress. My stylist couldn’t pull threw in time so I altered the gown on the left that I already had. Cut the top off, added straps, added pleats to create a stiff ruffle-esque foundation at knee, and added tulle. Most was hand work btw!” she captioned on Instagram. Adding, “Haven’t had time to be in a designing mood lately, but sometimes you have to pull out your skills. I would never usually alter something already made because I’m pretty cocky about my designing craft, but sometimes you have to work magic! You can take the girl from designing, but you can’t take designing from the girl. Can’t believe I’ve been a Fashion Designer for 20 years WOWWWW.” View this post on Instagram Ppl have asked about my #Emmys dress. A post shared by Isis King (@msisisking) on Sep 25, 2019 at 7:43pm PDT Just amazing! We sat down with Isis, the first trans model to compete on America’s Next Top Model , to talk about how she pulled this dress together last minute, her acting debut on Ava DuVernay’s limited series When They See Us and shining at the Emmys with her trans sisters. HelloBeautiful: Girl, your dress was stunning. How did you pull this off? Isis King: It was all last minute! I wanted to have something with sequins and pulled some fabric to make a new dress, but realized I didn’t have the time to make something from scratch. So I looked in my closet, pulled this dress out and I was like OK I can work with this. HB: Walk us through the process. IK: [Long story short], I knew the chiffon straps had to come off, so I added a strap to give me some support. Then I looked at the bottom of the dress and started folding and pleating it to picture what it would look like. And it looked really cool, couture-like, but I had to add some comfortable fabric underneath because with all the parties afterward, it didn’t want to be itchy all night. [Laughs] So I added some tulle, sewing each layer, which I did by hand. And there we go! HB: Wow! How long did it take? IK: Well, with the strap breaking the needles a few times and me working with fabrics I hadn’t worked with before, it took me maybe four hours altogether. HB: The response to your post was huge. Did you expect that? IK: I was really shocked because I have way before Top Model, I was a designer and over the years I have posted plenty of my designs and it didn’t get the same attention. But when I posted this dress, people were loving it! And I am like, this is great, but also, I can do way more than just altering! HB: Honestly, when I saw a picture of you and Niecy Nash [who played your mother in When They See Us ], I knew she was wearing Christian Siriano. So looking at you side-by-side, I thought you were wearing him as well! IK: It’s funny because when Niecy saw me she said, “Like mother, like daughter!” View this post on Instagram I would like to thank God, my mother, and……oh wait, it isn't mines?…… SO PROUD TO LIVE IN THIS MOMENT WITH MY LITTLE BRO @jharreljerome BROOOOOOOO!!!!…SO WELL DESERVED! So happy @koreykingwise and the #exonerated5 got to be here to see this moment! Best Lead Actor in a Limited Series!!!!!!!!! @whentheyseeus #whentheyseeus A post shared by Isis King (@msisisking) on Sep 22, 2019 at 11:20pm PDT HB: What an amazing night for “When They See Us,” especially Jharrel Jerome who played your brother. My heart almost stopped when Angela Bassett opened the envelope and then I saw the look of relief on her face, I just knew he had won. What was the atmosphere in the auditorium like when his name was called ? IK: It was electric! I stood up for both Jharrel and Billy Porter [who won Lead Actor In A Drama Series for Pose ]. The night before, I saw both of them at a party and told them to get their speeches ready. They both laughed, but here we are! It was so amazing to be there and see their wins in person. Also, to be on set with Jharrel, watching him and acting with him, especially our scenes together of him playing a teen and adult Korey Wise and me as Marci Wise , his trans sister, it was amazing to witness. He’s such a brilliant actor. HB: Well, you’re pretty good too Isis. You held your own in those scenes with Niecy and Jharrel. IK: Why thank you! I’ve been acting for 10 years before this and this was my big first role! I have been craving a role that was more than just being the pretty trans woman. I wanted to be a real character and have an opportunity to show what I’m capable of. I was clear [when I read the script] that I am ready for this. Once I got cast and got on set, I just wanted to make Ava proud. HB: There were scenes when you played Norman, Marci before her transition. Being a trans woman was that at all triggering? IK: You know what? No. When I was in the make-up, I was OK. I even asked Ava if I could have sideburns because I have never had that before. They even added hair to my lip and I bound my chest, (which gave me so much respect for those who do bind.) I was able to walk the streets of Harlem as Norman and no one knew who I was! I was in disguise, really acting. And for the first time, I was doing something different as an actress. I t wasn’t triggering, more like exhilarating. HB: I also saw pics of you with Pose actresses Mj Rodriquez and Indya Moore . What did it mean for you to be able to share that Emmys space with them like that? IK: Amazing. It was a great night to be with them and Dominique Jackson (Elektra from Pose ), we go way back to the ballroom scene. And Janet [Mock] , we’ve been girlfriends since 2011, and Angelica Ross , who’ve I known since 2009. So to be there, hug one another and celebrate us was very special. There was something very powerful to be trans women in our really cool garb and our sunkissed skin and to know that we BELONGED there. And I look forward to more of these moments when we can hold those statues, and have more stories [with trans leads] outside of Pose. That time is coming. Did I miss anything? @mjrodriguez7 x @indyamoore A post shared by Isis King (@msisisking) on Sep 24, 2019 at 9:50am PDT HB: Finally, what’s next for you? IK: So much. Last month, I walked the Savage x Fenty at New York Fashion Week, which was a dream come true. Rihanna told me my walk was fine and I literally froze up. [Laughs]. I am also going to be doing some more ads for Gabrielle Union’s “I’m Perfect” New York & Company Collection too. That, and auditioning for roles, taking those meetings and working on some influencer projects. Sometimes it feels like I’m playing catch up. it’s been 11 years since Top Model and I see that now they do want to hear my voice. So the takeover continues. It’s slow, but I am planting my seeds and being positive about my journey. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. This interview had been edited for length and clarity. Source: Prince Williams / Getty B.o.B a name we haven’t heard around these parts at least musically was the latest victim on an internet hoax, and he was not too pleased about it. The “Beautiful Girls” crafter went on an expletive-laced rant on Instagram after he “died” in an internet death hoax. The rapper, born Bobby Ray Simmons called out anyone who showed some concern and was upset by his “passing.” The rumor of his death began over the weekend when a “R.I.P B.o.B.” Facebook page came out of nowhere. The hoax page garnered plenty of attention quickly receiving nearly one million likes. The page falsely stated: “At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (September 29, 2019), our beloved rapper B.o.B passed away,” the post read. “B.o.B was born on November 15, 1988, in Winston-Salem. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.” Reps for the flat-earther reportedly quickly put out a statement denying the rumors of his death. “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax,” the statement read. “He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the internet.” B.o.B took thinks a bit further. “You fuckin’ niggas, I fuckin’ hate you fuckin’ niggas!” he begins. “You niggas ain’t support me worth a shit while I was fuckin’ livin. And now that I’m fuckin’ dead, you wanna talk about, ‘Oh, I love B.o.B. I love his music. I love all his shit?’ Fuck you! Fuck you, you fuckin’ bitch! You ain’t support shit! And you don’t give a fuck about me, and you don’t fuckin’ know me. “Muthafucka. Suck my fuckin’ dick you fuckin’ bitch. You don’t care about none of this shit I fuckin’ said, none of the shit I fuckin’ did and put my fuckin’ neck on the line for you ungrateful ass fuckin’ coons. Ungrateful coons! You don’t give a fuck about nothing. Fuck you! Don’t act like I was your friend.” We definitely understand being upset about killed even though you’re still alive, but why lash out at those who genuinely cared that you “died.” You can watch B.o.B lose his sh*t below. Source: Yuchen Liao / Getty Fashion’s go to trade magazine is under fire and for all the right reasons. One of the game’s hottest designers has them under pressure. Hypebeast is reporting that Business of Fashion , the world’s leading trade publication on fashion, has admitted they have some work to do. Earlier this week the editorial staff announced their annual #BoF500, a list that names the top 500 most influential people. The lineup included Kerby Jean-Raymond , founder of menswear label Pyer Moss. He has since declined the recognition due to their insensitivity at their accompanying BoF ‘s 500 in Paris and then some. View this post on Instagram Link in bio— Same respect you showed me @bof @imranamed A post shared by Kerby Jean-Raymond (@kerbito) on Oct 1, 2019 at 1:07pm PDT Raymond wrote a lengthy letter on Medium accusing the staff and industry as a whole of cultural appropriation. “Homage without empathy and representation is appropriation” he declared. “Instead, explore your own culture, religion and origins. By replicating ours and excluding us — you prove to us that you see us as a trend. Like, we gonna die black, are you.” Naturally the intensive piece circulated quickly forcing Business Of Fashion editor-in-chief Imran Amed to respond. View this post on Instagram Yeah… It’s uncomfortable for me too. A post shared by Kerby Jean-Raymond (@kerbito) on Feb 5, 2019 at 6:19am PST Amed made it clear that Raymond is not alone. “Kerby has every right to voice his concerns and we respect his perspective. He is also right about several things. As Kerby points out, the fashion industry has often treated inclusivity as a trend, putting diverse faces in our ad campaigns, on our runways, on our magazine covers and, yes, at our parties because it’s cool and of the moment. But I can assure you that this topic is not a trend for BoF ” he wrote. Over the last year, several high-profile brands have been guilty of incorporating culturally insensitive imagery. This specifically caused Gucci to create more opportunities for people of color after their infamous sweater that resembled blackface imagery. You can read Amed’s formal response in full here. Photo:
Source: CHARLY TRIBALLEAU / Getty Historically, Sony wasn’t initially on board with the idea of cross-play much to the dismay of gamers. When Microsoft and Nintendo came together to allow Fornite players to come together, everyone started looking at PlayStation wondering when they will join in. It seems like that time is now. PlayStation was reluctantly forced into cross-play after gamers made a big stink about not initially being allowed to play with Switch and Xbox One owners. Since then the idea of cross-play was, for the most part, in beta mode with its most significant test being during Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s recent beta. It would seem the folks at PlayStation were pleased with the results and have officially decided to play nice with Switch and Xbox One owners. Sony hasn’t confirmed the news themselves, but in a post from Wired , they elude that Modern Warfare is Sony’s first official foray into the world of cross-play. When it officially launches later this month, the re-imagined version of the iconic first-person shooter will take the feature out its beta mode. So fans, of games like Rocket League and as mentioned above Fortnite who loathed the idea of having to ditch their PS4 console’s to play with friends will no longer have to. Tha’s not the only big news revolving around PlayStation. Sony also announced a significate price cut to it’s PlayStation Now subscription service. The monthly service dropped from $20 to $10 with the annual falling from $100 to $60. The lineup was also bolstered with the addition fo PlayStation exclusives God of War , Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End , Infamous: Second Son , plus Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V . It would seem like Sony is looking to close out the year strong with the PlayStation 4 and at the same time grown its PlayStation Now service which has 700,000 subscribers at this moment. Antoine “Tweazy” Edwards was accused of killing Ryan “Rudy” Johnson, 24 and Joshua Johnson, 31 during an argument back in July of 2016. During the trial, witnesses claim they saw Edwards at the scene of the crime after the men were killed. One key witness said she even heard Edwards confess to the crime. The strategy did not hold up in court. On September 12th, Edwards was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder. The Johnson family was present for the verdict, but did not release a statement. Witnesses say the family let out an audible sigh of relief when the ruling was read. Edwards was sentenced to life in prison on Monday as the friends and relatives of the victims watched. Toya has been very vocal about her grief since her brothers’ passing. Shortly after the incident, Toya told People the devastating details of the night her siblings died. She was initially told just one of her brothers were shot, and that was it. The mom of two explained she was frantically calling family members and no one would answer. Source: SGranitz / Getty Young Dylan has made a name for himself as a talented young rapper and now his talents will shine brighter thanks to the Midas touch of Tyler Perry. According to Shadow and Act , Perry is partnering with Nickelodeon for a new family comedy show. The series is the latest in Perry’s huge overall deal at Viacom, which also houses his upcoming BET shows. The Nickelodeon series will follow “a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced.” Of course, Young Dylan is the hip-hop star. The 10-year-old, born Dylan Gilmer, went viral a while back and eventually became a regular on Ellen as a performer and interviewee. “It’s a thrill to bring this new series to Nickelodeon from the incredibly talented and prolific Tyler Perry, whose track record speaks for itself” said Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins about the upcoming show. “Dylan is an incredibly talented 10-year-old who at heart is a relatable kid making his dreams happen. We know kids are going to love watching Dylan and we can’t wait to introduce him and his new show to our audience.” For an older audience who grew up loving the teen drama Degrassi, a new channel has been specifically created for you. Shadow and Act also reports that the Canadian teen soap will have its own channel on Pluto TV, the streaming service that was brought by Viacom earlier this year. The channel will have all things Degrassi, including Degrassi: The Next Generation and installments of the later Degrassi series. The Next Generation originally aired from 2001 to 2009 and acted as the launching pad for such talent as Stephan James from If Beale Street Could Talk and actor turned music artist Aubrey “Drake” Graham. If you want to relive their early stumping grounds you can sign up for Pluto TV, which is available in the U.S. and the U.K.
