Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Netflix premiered the Bird Box movie earlier this week and now that everyone has gotten to see it, they’re responding to the film in the most hilarious way. Bird Box is a post apocalyptic thriller that begins when a mysterious force threatens civilization. The force, if you look at it, causes you to not only do bodily harm to yourself but pushes you to kill yourself. Mallory, played by Sandra Bullock, connects with a group of people with the desire to survive. Eventually, Mallory must use her instincts to keep her and her children alive with the help of a box of birds. Mallory and the children are blindfolded for the majority of the film and have to figure out how to navigate the world without the ability to see. For Black Twitter, that’s the most iconic part of the movie so of course, the memes took over the internet. What would you do if Bird Box happened in real life? Black Twitter weighed in. Check out some of the most hilarious responses. Source: Prince Williams/WireImage / Getty It’s still girls trip time on tonight’s episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta . We pick p with Marlo trying to impose her “stylist” skills on Shamari, claiming she needs a fashion update and an upgrade. Shamarai doesn’t take too kindly at first because it does seem like Marlo is being shady and not really trying to help, but eventually, she just goes along with it. The outfit ends up being some jeans, a giant scarf looking thing draped over Shamari as a shirt and a gigantic beach hat. Nene accurately calls the obvious thing out—it really just looks like an outfit Marlo would wear, some stylist she is. It’s raining out so Nene figures out how to turn all that pinned up shade into something a little more productive—a game called “B—h Stole My Talent.” It’s basically a battle of the talents competition series where the group will judge who wins. Marlo and Tanya compete as the fashion queens. They model outfits and the group chooses Tanya as the winner. Then it’s Cynthia and Eva in a walk-off since they’re the models. Cynthia wins and it’s a unanimous decision, which says a lot because you know how Eva is always trying to come for Cynthia’s so-called dated modeling skills. Shamari and Kandi have a sing-off and while both women can sing, Shamari brings it by singing “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” while Kandi falls flat—pun intended—with an original piece that had all of us scratching our heads. Anyway, Shamari wins. Finally, Porsha and Nene will be judged by who hosted the best and Nene takes the gold. It’s all love though, for now. The next day they split up for various activities. Kandi, Eva, and Sharmari end up doing aerial pilates while Cynthia, NeNe, Tanya, and Marlo get a massage. Porsha misses all the fun because she’s not feeling well and the latter group of women figured out that she’s probably pregnant because her behavior has made it obvious and they noticed weight gain in her belly. Cynthia even brings up making her take a pregnancy test and we hope not because, mind your business. NeNe visits Porsha back at the house and cuts to the chase. Porsha lies and says, “She hasn’t checked yet” (she took a home pregnancy test but is still awaiting her first official doctor appointment) but NeNe knows what’s up. She says she’s not going to say anything, but she’s super excited and tells Porsha that the other women are on to her. That’s when Porsha shows NeNe a Coca-Cola and apple juice concoction that she put in a Hennessey bottle that she plans to drink to throw the group off because she realizes that she has been looking suspect. Fast forward to dinner. Porsha pulls out the Hennessey and leads a toast as everyone else drinks champagne. It’s odd that she would go from an “alcohol fast” to pulling liquor out of her purse for a toast, but it seems to work. It all goes downhill shortly after that when Marlo and Shamari go at it. Basically, Shamari says she didn’t appreciate Marlo’s aggressiveness about switching p her wardrobe. Marlo thinks she’s Shamari’s style savior and that Shamari should be grateful. It gets so intense that Shamari calls Marlo a “b—h” because she had time. Then Marlo fires back with, “Yo’ mama” (loosely translated) and that’s when the other women in the group jump in and try to calm things down. Finally, they make it through the dinner with wigs and fragile egos kinda sorta intact. M adam C.J. Walker is one of the most influential Black business owners in history and now a home that she once lived in will possibly be transformed into a hub for entrepreneurship. According to Lo Hud , billionaire Richelieu Dennis , who owns Sundial Brands and Essence, plans on turning her Irvington, New York Villa Lewaro mansion into an incubator space for women of color. Billionaire Richelieu Dennis of SheaMoisture, Essence shares vision for Irvington mansion https://t.co/ptextEoVkt pic.twitter.com/HRen6pNaUR — lohud.com (@lohud) December 19, 2018 Dennis wants to use the historic residence—which is 20,000-square-feet and has over 30 rooms—for the creation of an entrepreneurship program that will help women further their businesses through collaboration. “When people think of women’s empowerment and economic inclusion, they should think of Irvington,” said Dennis, during a meeting of the Irvington Village Board of Trustees. “The idea is we would create a think tank where we would have some of the some of the best minds in the country thinking about entrepreneurs and the challenges of entrepreneurship for women and women of color.” Dennis plans on restoring the mansion and then implementing the program. As a Liberian immigrant who came from humble beginnings, he sees a lot of parallels between he and Walker’s story and believes that the incubator will be a way to pay homage to the woman who was our country’s first Black woman self-made millionaire. “The Dennis family wants to make sure that Madam Walker’s legacy continues not only through the hair care products but also through this beautiful home that was intended by Madam Walker as a place that would inspire others,” Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles told the news outlet. “They embody it themselves and they understand why it is important for other people to be able to share the vibrations that come from that house.” The home was constructed 100 years ago by Black architect Vertner Tandy . Source: SEMI / Getty Surprise Tsunami Hits Beaches In Indonesia Killing Nearly 200 There was absolutely no warning before a deadly tsunami struck Indonesia on Saturday, which ended up killing at least 168 people and injuring at least 745, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of public relations at Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency, announced on television. According to the country’s meteorological, climatological and geological agency, the tsunami is likely to have been triggered by a combination of underwater landslides caused by volcanic eruption. Nugroho said that the country doesn’t have the proper equipment to alert that a tsunami threat is coming. “This is new thing for us,” Nugroho said, adding that Indonesia needs underwater sensors that would warn authorities of possible dangers such as this. “We need multi-hazard early warning system, and we need lots of it.” Nugroho also pointed out that tsunamis are much faster and less predictable than tidal waves, which are caused by atmospheric conditions. “We used to know that a tsunami happens after an earthquake. There was no quake last night. That is why there was no warning,” he said referring to the underwater landslides. He also announced that 30 people are still missing. The tsunami has destroyed 558 houses and heavily damaged nine hotels, 60 restaurants and 350 boats. Indonesia has unfortunately been hit by a series of natural disasters in recent weeks, including a strong earthquake that hit the island of Sulawesi only a couple months ago on September 28. In the towns of Baleroa and Petobo, rivers of soil swept away entire neighborhoods in the aftermath of the magnitude-7.5 earthquake and ensuing tsunami. The death toll from the quake is nearly 2,000. Another 20 people had their lives taken in October, when torrential rains and flooding triggered mudslides that wiped out part of an elementary school in Indonesia’s North Sumatra.
Source: Pacific Press / Getty Al Sharpton Blasts Travis Scott For Performing At Super Bowl Al Sharpton is not happy with Travis Scott. Earlier in the week, it was reported that the rapper was going to be performing at the Super Bowl 2019 halftime show alongside Maroon 5. Though Scott’s involvement has not been confirmed as of yet, many people have expressed their disappointment in the move and have been encouraging La Flame to bow out of the event. Al Sharpton echoed these same concerns during a chat with the people over at TMZ , insisting that Scott’s halftime performance would endorse Colin Kaepernick’s unjust treatment by the NFL. The civil rights activist urged Travis to follow in the footsteps of other entertainers who have chosen to boycott the Super Bowl, including Rihanna and Cardi B–who have both reportedly rejected halftime show offers out of support for Kaepernick. “I think anyone that goes into the halftime show is in effect directly violating those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and continue to do to Colin Kaepernick and those that protest on criminal justice issues,” Sharpton said. “You can’t tell people to stand for those that take a knee and don’t go to the games and then say ‘but somebody ought to perform there and entertain.’ You’re drawing TV viewers, you’re bringing supporters, and I think that you can’t have it both ways…You can’t fight Jim Crow and then sit in the back of the bus.” Sharpton isn’t the only one who has publicly expressed their disapproval of Travis’ alleged upcoming performance. Meek Mill has also weighed in on the reported Super Bowl addition, insisting that he likes the rapper but doesn’t understand why he would accept the gig. For what???? https://t.co/oTZ4PsDqcD — Meek Mill (@MeekMill) December 20, 2018 Variety also reported that JAY-Z tried to convince Scott to back out of the performance. Travis Scott has yet to address the reports about him performing at the Super Bowl. The game is set for February 3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
