Comedians can spend years doing shows and barely scratch the surface of mainstream success. Tiffany Haddish is a prime example of someone who’s worked hard to get where she’s at, even if there’s some criticism along the way. Luckily, with the emergence of YouTube, Instagram and other social media sites, a comic’s rise to fame can be faster, or at least bring in a core audience. Channels like Laugh Factory or Comedy Central Stand-up have given people easier access to some of the funniest comedians the world has to offer. Even late night TV shows like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is showing love to comics by occasionally airing short stand-up sets. Now, comics that have been going on for years can finally get the spotlight or fresh new faces can have a stage to test out their material. T he conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports claimed that 35 percent of African-Americans approve of President Donald Trump ‘s job performance. Through this survey, the politically biased pollster is supporting Trump’s myth that he’s done a lot for Black people. See Also: Canceled! Millennials Pick Obama As Best President Over Trash-Talking Trump In a report released on Friday, Rasmussen placed Trump’s overall approval rating at 51 percent among likely voters. “This is Trump’s highest Presidential Approval Index rating since early March of last year, shortly after he first took office,” Rasmussen stated. One day earlier, Rasmussen tweeted about the suspiciously high level of Black voter support for the president. Good day for @realDonaldTrump job approval… https://t.co/mazBCW77nY All Voters: 50% approve Black Voters: 35% approve pic.twitter.com/MKP85IGRYU — Rasmussen Reports (@Rasmussen_Poll) October 4, 2018 Rasmussen raised eyebrows in August when its polling first suggested that there was an increase of Black voter support for Trump. The Washington Post called that claim “far-fetched,” given the president’s long history of racial insensitivity. The newspaper pointed out that Gallup surveys have consistently polled African-American approval of Trump at around 10 percent through 2018. This new poll comes as Trump tries to rally his base and help the GOP scrape together as many Black votes as possible to hold on to Congress. At rallies, Trump has been trying to convince people that he’s accomplished great things for African-Americans in his two years in office. Among his claims is that Black median income has reached a high point under his administration. That’s not true, according to the Associated Press . Census Bureau data shows that the median income in 2017 for an African-American household was $40,258. That’s below a 2000 peak of $42,348 and also statistically no better than 2016, which was President Barack Obama ’s last year in office, the AP said. It’s no surprise that Rasmussen appears to help Trump promote the myth of Black support, given its connection with the GOP . To achieve its ends, Rasmussen Reports uses research techniques that make its polls favor Republicans, Ipsos Public Affairs research director Mallory Newall told The Hill . O n Friday, we saw something that rarely happens. A police officer was found guilty of second degree murder for killing a Black teenager. However, and this shouldn’t be a shocker, the police union and the National Black Police Association see the conviction differently. RELATED: Jason Van Dyke Cries Fake Tears As His Testimony Contradicts LaQuan McDonald Video Evidence Jason Van Dyke killed 17-year-old Laquan McDonald on October 20, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois. He was found guilty of second degree murder and 16 different counts of aggravated battery (one for each bullet). Of course, the police union blasted the conviction. According to The Chicago Sun Times, the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police said in a statement, “This is a day I never thought I’d see in America, where 12 ordinary citizens were duped into saving the asses of self-serving politicians at the expense of a dedicated public servant.” The statement continued, “This sham trial and shameful verdict is a message to every law enforcement officer in America that it’s not the perpetrator in front of you that you need to worry about, it’s the political operatives stabbing you in the back. What cop would still want to be proactive fighting crime after this disgusting charade, and are law abiding citizens ready to pay the price?” Van Dyke fired at McDonald 16 times within 14 seconds and the video clearly showed he was walking away—nonetheless, the police union clearly did not want the officer to be held accountable. On the other hand, the National Black Police Association released a powerful statement, which read in part, “We cannot demand a criminal justice system that calls for the accountability of citizens, but not police officers. We cannot demand to be held at a higher standard only when it benefits us. We cannot demand that we be seen as human if those we are sworn to protect and serve are not seen as human too. Laquan McDonald was a citizen deserving our protection, even in the midst of his human frailties; he was only 17-years old, he had a family, and he was loved.” How sad that police union’s statement made no mention of the victim. Y ep, all Black folks look alike according to media sources from Fox News to The Hill. The Hill, a popular political outlet since 1994, covered Susan Rice , Obama’s former National Security Advisor, who is considering running against Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins for the U.S. Senate. Collins voted for Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court and has received tons of backlash because she is a woman who voted against a woman who was sexually assaulted. While covering the story, The Hill used a photo of Condoleezza Rice , who was Secretary of State under President George W. Bush . For real?? @thehill pic.twitter.com/lnyFdApAf0 — Michael Eaves (@michaeleaves) October 8, 2018 The image has already been changed on their article . However, Twitter is having a field day with this. One user wrote , “somebody googled ‘Black Rice’ Condeleeza’s picture came up.” Another tweeted , “Don’t they have fact checkers, or editors, or I dunno, any Black people on staff over there?” Maybe this will further inspire Susan Rice to run against Collins. In case you missed it, Obama’s former White House Communications Director Jen Psaki tweeted, “who wants to run for Senate in Maine? there will be an army of supporters with you.” Rice replied, “Me.” Me https://t.co/93qNxN7Ky9 — Susan Rice (@AmbassadorRice) October 5, 2018 Don’t get too excited. According to ABC News , Rice spoke at a panel during The New Yorker Festival and said, “I made the tweet, I later elaborated that this wasn’t where my head was.” She continued, “But I have been moved by the enthusiasm. I’m going to give it due consideration after the midterms.” Nonetheless, The Hill, Fox News and everyone else who think all Black folks look alike need to do better. She has also been featured in live fashion segments on networks including HLN. Many aspiring models put their runway dreams on hold to become mothers but Southern girl Devorah Story started grinding towards her goals after she joined “club mommy” at the age of 25. The Georgia native gleefully defines herself as “Christian’s mom” but she hasn’t let motherhood get in the way of pursuing her dreams. She has been able to balance a day job with going on casting calls, appearing at promotional events, heading to photoshoots and walking in runway shows without missing a beat. She hopes her passion and persistence can inspire others not to give up. In her bio she states, “The word is full of so many talented people” and she “doesn’t believe that God would coincidentally place us all in the very same place to not inspire one another.” The self-proclaimed “natural beauty” was getting attention long before she was being celebrated for the curves she publicly embraces. The preacher’s kid (her father is a pastor) made a splash singing in church on Sundays and soon was performing at local weddings, talent shows and community events as word of her talent spread. She still has a love of music but these days her striking appearance is what’s helping her stand out. She has worked with retailers Ashley Stewart and Rue107 to bring a fresh look to plus-size advertising. Story has also been featured as the face of CurlBox where her bronze skin and regal natural hair style reminds subscribers and the industry at large that plus-size models are capable of serving in beauty campaigns . Her commitment to showing up for herself is reflected in her son’s confidence. His spirited toy reviews on his personal Instagram page feature the same enthusiasm and joy seen on his mom’s face as she’s ripping the runway. These days she is balancing her model duties with her day job where she puts her psychology degree and nurturing spirit to good use by caring for children with autism . Source: Erika Goldring / Getty The A3C Festival concluded on Sunday (Oct. 7) but certainly not on the highest of notes. Lil Wayne ‘s headlining closing set was abruptly ended after chatter of gunshots or a gunman spread around the packed festival grounds in Atlanta. Local outlet WXIA reports: According to reports, Lil Wayne was about 5 songs into his set when pandemonium broke out. The performance served as a kind of comeback for Lil Wayne – his first since the release of “Tha Carter Five” in September. The rapper tweeted his well-wishes to concertgoers. But one man said everything was going fine until Lil Wayne hit the stage. “You have five different nationally-ranked artists perform – no problems,” he said. “Soon as this artist, the top-biller, Lil Wayne got on the stage, three or 4 minutes it start busting.” The mention of gunshots sent many attendees scrambling and some were injured in the process. Hip-Hop Wired was on the grounds of the Georgia Freight Depot but vacated before the ensuing stampede took place. According to research we’ve done with our contacts on the ground, there were no gunshots heard but the false alarm was enough to set folks into a panic. A3C organizers tweeted out a statement, which can be read below and right under Lil Wayne’s well-wishing tweet.
