‘Insecure’ Recap: Nathan Ghosted Because He Literally Can’t Talk About His Feelings

See more here:

Source: Josh Blanchard / FilmMagic/FilmMagic for HBO Season 3 of Insecure went by super fast! It’s hard to believe that tonight’s episode is the season finale, but it is. Tonight’s episode is a lot about introspection, which is perfect since Issa’s 30th birthday is coming up! Molly has a surprise that her girl will love. Meanwhile, Lawrence meets up with his father and talks about life, including Issa. He tells his father that all the women he has been dealing with since Issa have been too demanding and that dating for him hasn’t been easy like his and his mom’s relationship. His pops is just looking at him like… It’s a naive perspective. That point is driven home when Papa Lawrence lets him know that he and Mama Lawrence have been through some ish. “Your mom and I had matching luggage!” Welp. In other news, Issa has put her block party planning on hold because getting it together has been harder than she thought. Molly got co-lead on a major case at work. Taurean is the other lead, but Molly was shady in how she got the case in the first place (she undercut him). That is going to prompt major introspection on her part later on. Now it’s Issa day! Molly goes to pick her girl up for a day of fun and bumps into Nathan. Yes, Nathan. He has some flowers thinking he’s about to make amends but Molly shuts him down. Apparently, he has been ghost for a month and Molly tells him to go away because he’s not about to mess up Issa’s birthday. He does as he’s told for now. Molly’s surprise is taking Issa to a blackbuster night in the park. They’re watching The Last Dragon , one of Issa’s favorite movies. Lawrence came out too because it’s also one of his favorite movies. That becomes clear when they bump into each other and say lines from one of their favorite scenes. Lawrence then joins his boys, Chad and Mike ,and learns that Chad’s fiancee took him back, even after the cheating scandal. Lawrence is shocked but Chad said he had to do a lot of begging but he wasn’t trying to “do this couple shit all over again.” Plus, it’s how love works (in his mind). You see where this is going, right? Lawrence and Issa are probably not getting back together (anytime soon), but you can tell that Lawrence is reconsidering a lot of things in terms of how relationships can work. He even heads back to Issa’s blanket with her favorite snack just to wish her a happy birthday and their vibe is super cool. Issa also gets to talk to the founder of the blackbuster night, a woman she also met at Tiffany’s baby shower who obviously has similar interests. She even confirms that event planning for the love and with no real budget is no joke and inspires Issa to try to get the block party poppin’ again. Issa and Molly take it back to Issa’s place for a slumber party. Then Molly tells Issa that she ran Nathan away because she didn’t want any drama on her 30th and of course Issa is pissed because she would have rather handled that herself. Then Issa says Molly has a habit of throwing people away and being negative and that she assumes the worst in everyone. This even shows up at work. Molly assumed that Taurean was coming for her neck and canceled him out when it came to competition. Molly just sees it as this is how she has to be to get what she wants but Issa says what is she going to do at work when everyone hates her, “Because this isn’t her. This has never been her.” Then we cut to Molly at work. Molly learns that Taurean has joined another case since Molly is capable of handling it on her own. But it feels weird, and we get the sting is when she sees Taurean meet up with two other co-workers to actually work together on another case. They offer a begrudging, “Congratulations,” and look at her like… You can tell they feel some type of way, not about Molly having ambition. It’s more about Molly allowing that ambition to steamroll and isolate people. This prompts her to do some introspection and she even calls Andrew, #AsianBae, to apologize for being a jerk and she actually shows some vulnerability. We finally see Molly with her mask off. Issa links with the organizer of the blackbuster night and she has all types of knowledge about how to find partners and make the block party happen. it looks like the beginning of a nice partnership and even friendship but then in another scene, we see that same friend meet up with Lawrence for drinks. He met her at the baby shower too and this is looking like a date. That’s going to make things really awkward. Finally, Nathan meets up with Issa to apologize, talmbout he went back to Houston because he was dealing with a lot of stuff. He doesn’t know how to explain what this stuff is but he gets really down and negative and he can’t talk to people sometimes and he didn’t want to put her through that. Issa translates it to, “You ghosted me and left LA because you were in a bad mood?” But what it really seems like is that Nathan may be dealing with depression and doesn’t know how or is ashamed to communicate that. He does seem to genuinely be contrite and offers an apology. Issa expresses that she needs some time to think about some things and figure out what she wants, so she goes in her house, puts some finishing touches on her apartment and lives her best life alone. Nathan will be back though. He claims that he’s here now and hopes they can talk. They’ll talk again, but we’ll have to wait a year before we see what comes of their relationship…or lack thereof. Republicans Portray Maxine Waters As An Angry Black Woman Over Senators’ Data Breach

See the article here:

R epublicans applauded Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh ’s angry words during his Senate confirmation hearing but called California’s Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters an angry Black woman for denouncing allegations of her staff’s involvement in a data breach. SEE ALSO: Trump Once Again Proves He Has An Unhealthy Obsession With Maxine Waters Waters called the accusations “lies, lies and more despicable lies” that are “being pedaled by ultra-right wing pundits,” in a Twitter post on Saturday. Several right-wing sites, including the Gateway Pundit, blamed the congresswoman’s staff for adding personal information about three GOP senators to the lawmakers’ Wikipedia pages. The breach came on Thursday, hours after the Senate testimony of Christine Blasey Ford , who alleged that Kavanagh sexually assaulted her when they were in high school, the Washington Post reported. Please read my statement on false allegations regarding the leak of the personal information of U.S. Senators: pic.twitter.com/YBEekR6jBB — Maxine Waters (@RepMaxineWaters) September 29, 2018 Ari Fleischer , President George W. Bush ’s former press secretary, illustrated the double standard in a tweet that received high-fives from fellow Republicans. “This denial is angry. This suggests she doesn’t have the temperment (sic) to be a Member of Congress. When someone is accused of something they didn’t do, they must not be angry. They must not be defiant. They must not question the motives of the accuser. They must be calm and serene,” Fleischer wrote. Yet Republicans saw no problem with Kavanaugh, who could sit on the nation’s highest court for decades, defending his reputation through an angry, uncontrolled tirade. Indeed, South Carolina’s GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham also expressed his outrage at Democrats during the hearing. Waters has long been a target of Republicans because she stands up to the GOP. Supporters cheered the congresswoman for daring the president’s supporters to shoot her in an escalating dispute with  Donald Trump . “Shoot straight because there’s nothing like a wounded animal,” she said boldly at a June immigration rally in Los Angeles. 8-Year-Old Philadelphia Girl Uses Barbering To Give Back To Her Community

Original post:

A young barber from Philadelphia is using her skills to give back to her community. After successfully completing barber training, 8-year-old Neijae Graham-Henries has been offering free haircuts to kids in her neighborhood, CBS Philadelphia reported. 8-year-old girl passes barber training, gives back to community with free haircuts https://t.co/Oq0x9CjlTA @adriannabarr pic.twitter.com/4m7gTB4d7B — Yahoo Lifestyle (@yahoolifestyle) September 26, 2018 Graham-Henries began her cosmetology journey at the Junior Barber Academy in North Philadelphia over the summer, the news outlet writes. The program is led by P. Michael Boone who has been cutting hair for nearly three decades. It was created to teach young men all of the elements of barbering, including everything from clipper control to cleanliness. Initially, Graham-Henries’ brother was going to participate in the program but decided to not move forward. She chose to stick with it. After noticing her passion for cutting hair, Boone took the youngster under his wing. “I never expected to see a young lady in my class, but she was eager to learn, and I gave her the same guidance I’d give my older students,” Boone told Yahoo News . “I am very proud of her. She was a great student, and I am excited to see where this will take her.” Boone recently organized a back to school event for children in the Philadelphia area where Graham-Henries helped him give nearly 400 students free haircuts. “The whole process is to finish it and do it really good and to, like, style it good,” Graham-Henries told CBS Philadelphia. Boone is gearing up for another community service-focused project in November where he will cut hair for the homeless. He says the second grader will more than likely help him out with that project. There are several people in Philadelphia using barbering as an avenue to give back to those in need. In 2017, after dedicating an entire year to walking the streets of the city to give free haircuts to the homeless, Brennon Jones was gifted with a fully-furnished barbershop to continue serving those in need. Black Woman Venture Capitalist Aims To Revive Underserved Areas In D.C.

View post:

A Black venture capitalist is using her business acumen and resources to revitalize underserved areas in Washington, D.C. Through her company EB5 Capital, Angelique Brunner is intertwining community restoration, job creation and citizenship for foreign investors, Fast Company reported. This black female entrepreneur is rebuilding D.C. with foreign dollars—and a dream https://t.co/wl8wUU96Iw — Fast Company (@FastCompany) September 29, 2018 Brunner moved to the nation’s capital nearly 20 years ago and discovered neighborhoods that were in dire need of help, the news outlet writes. Many of the predominately Black communities that had been ravaged by the 1968 riots following the death of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were left with abandoned buildings and nearly no businesses for decades. Determined to evoke change in these neighborhoods, Brunner launched EB5 Capital. The company gives investors from other countries the opportunity to put money towards rebuilding D.C. neighborhoods in exchange for green-cards and a smoother journey to U.S. citizenship. Brunner—who was once the only Black woman in the venture capital world from the New York City to Atlanta area—believes the program is beneficial for all parties involved. “People are willing to invest in the United States for an expedited visa process. The only hitch is that you have to create jobs with the money they invest,” she told the news outlet. “We are focused on job creation, but livable cities require jobs and affordable housing. You can actually have financial gains in a neighborhood that don’t necessarily change the racial fabric of a neighborhood initially. To me, the only way to address the addition of economic opportunity is to consciously create mixed-income neighborhoods.” EB5 Capital has worked on projects that include the City Market at O Street and the city’s Columbia Place development. There have been several efforts to rebuild underserved communities throughout the country. In August, it was reported that former NBA star and business mogul Earvin “Magic” Johnson has his sights set on revitalizing neighborhoods in Baltimore . White People Are Willing To Sacrifice White People To Uphold White Supremacy

Read the original:

W e have to wait a week until we find out if Brett Kavanaugh will be on the Supreme Court as Republican Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake  pushed to delay the vote while the FBI investigates claims of the judge’s alleged previous sexual misconduct. Here's that moment from Jeff Flake. “I think it would be proper to delay the floor vote for up to but not more than one week, in order to let the FBI do an investigation, limited in time and scope to the current allegations that are there.” (via Fox) pic.twitter.com/3t6kKMo1d5 — Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) September 28, 2018 This is a good thing. But, in the grand scheme, this doesn’t imbue me with any hope because everything that was true before Flake made his decision still stands. Kavanaugh had affirmative votes from a near majority of a group of mostly white male Republicans who have heard Dr. Christine Blasey Ford ’s account of Kavanaugh attempting to rape her when they were in high school. The reason Kavanaugh is getting these votes has nothing to do with anyone’s belief that he’s innocent – that’s immaterial to the people in power at the GOP; it’s because he would surely use his seat to uphold white supremacy. Kavanaugh is almost assuredly going to pull back on voting rights, women’s rights and LGBT rights. Plus, he’ll probably do his best to ensure Donald Trump never faces impeachment or jail time. That’s all that matters to those voting for him. These senators have decided that Kavanaugh’s apparent promises of advancing white supremacist ideals are worth all of the pain everyone, especially Dr. Ford, has faced. Because if there’s one thing that’s clear about white America, it’s that they are willing to sacrifice their own to uphold the idea of white power. And this isn’t new. White people – men and women – voted in a majority for Donald Trump, who has more than a dozen accusations of sexual assault on his back. The same Donald Trump who admitted, on camera, that he grabs women by their vaginas without consent. In Alabama, failed Senate hopeful Roy Moore also got the majority of the white vote despite multiple claims that he raped underage girls. The message was clear: Moore and Trump’s political positions, which have largely revolved around racism, xenophobia and violence against anyone who isn’t a white man, spoke louder than violence against women. Unyielding faith in white supremacy is, of course, an act of self-destruction. It goes without saying that a world built on equality, meritocracy and love is a world where everybody wins. But the American pathos means not seeing victory unless there’s someone who is losing. There is no victory without someone being defeated. Native Americans had to die for the country to be formed. Africans had to be enslaved for the country to be built. White men and women had to die in a war to uphold a region’s desire to own slaves. Scores of white men and women have been killed in a war built on the economic desires of a few rich white men. Poor people have to lose their jobs and brave poverty to show China who’s boss. These are the sacrifices that must be made for America – white America – to succeed. And for everybody else to lose. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was just the latest sacrifice to be made. She is the most recent white American who white Americans felt comfortable casting aside for decades of laws that theoretically make white Americans great again. The irony here is that the sacrifices won’t end. There is no line of no return for white people when it comes to casting aside fellow white folks for whiteness. White supremacists are happy to march on the front lines for white supremacy knowing that they are going to be the first ones trampled. They’ll even sacrifice their own children for the cause. Right? a Trump supporter on MSNBC told her daughters that men groping women is “no big deal” pic.twitter.com/QbYubOJpXl — Caleb Ecarma (@calebecarma) September 26, 2018 I never really had much faith in the majority of white Americans to do the right thing for the rest of us. I’ve seen too many police go free after murdering black men and women. I’ve seen too many juries lean towards the wrong end of justice. I’ve seen too many votes placed in Congress that have ruined whole communities. And I saw what happened in November of 2016 . The best course of action is to act under the presumption that white America will vote for white supremacy at the expense of everyone else and be pleasantly surprised when they don’t. I’ve seen enough to know that white supremacy doesn’t care if the world burns as long as white people get to smell everyone else’s ashes first. The empty Supreme Court seat and whoever occupies it is only further proof of that fact.
