FBI Ranks Detroit 2nd Most Violent Big City in America

Read more from the original source:

According to TheDetroitNews , in an FBI crime data report released this morning, Detroit has moved up to the 2nd most violent big city in America. The report concludes that murders in the motor city have actually decreased since the FBI’s last Uniform Crime Report in 2017. In that report Detroit sat at a staggering 303 murders, which has dropped significantly to 267 murders. But apparently this doesn’t effect the report because violent crimes outside of murder have increased in the city. In 2016 the city had 13, 705 violent crimes which includes: murder, rape, assault, and robbery. Unfortunately for Detroit that number saw a rise to 13,796 in 2017. Detroit’s crime rate is now at 2,057 violent crimes per 100,000 people. This number is only higher in one city in America; St. Louis, MO. Detroit has beaten other metropolitan cities like Baltimore, Memphis, and Kansas City. The good news is that Detroit is not the city with the highest murder rate, but that comes with bad news as well, we are still in the top three. The highest murder rate also goes to St. Louis, Missouri, with 205 murders at a rate of 66 per 100,000 citizens. Baltimore falls in 2nd place at 342 murders at a rate of 56 per 100,000 citizens, and in third place is our city which is currently sitting at, 40 murders per 100,000 citizens. The Detroit News also reported that violent crimes in the country overall have fallen 0.2 percent over the last year, which is great news for the country overall. We just hope that with the reinvigoration of downtown, that we can possibly get aboard this same objective and bring the violent crime number down in the city. For those who live in the Detroit Metro area, it is no secret that there is a staggering poverty level that seems to be rising within the city, while suburbs notice significant growth in that regard. This is a great contributor to violent crimes, and without an acknowledgment of this we may not see any decreases in violent crimes. This is just another reason why citizens in Detroit and its surrounding cities should make sure to register to vote for Novembers mid-term elections. This is one of the most important elections in our city’s history and we should all make it a goal to make our voices heard at the polls this year.     Follow @hiphopdetroit   Close Thank you for subscribing! Jesse Williams Is Now A Director And His New Film Is Seriously Relevant For 2018

Read the original post:

J esse Williams is a noted actor and activist, but he can now add director to his many titles. The 37-year-old is directing a new film that will tackle one of America’s ugliest moments in history. See Also: Ben Carson Tells A Black Woman To Escape Poverty She Needs To Get Married According to Deadline.com , Williams is set to direct a movie on the aftermath of the lynching of 14-year-old  Emmett Louis Till in 1955 Mississippi. The film focuses on the journey of Till’s mother,  Mamie Mobley Till , who became a civil rights icon after her son’s murder. Titled “Till,” the screenplay will be adapted from the 2005 documentary “The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till” and written by  Michael Reilly and civil rights filmmaker  Keith A. Beauchamp . The Till family supports the film and production will begin in summer 2019. Williams told Deadline.com, “I’m honored to be directing the story of Mamie & Emmett, a tale of revolutionary defiance in the face of tremendous personal and public devastation. An exploration of power and pulling back the curtain on cultural violence; of boyhood and maternity challenging America’s reflex to hide from itself; underdogs refusing to pretend that terror is freedom.” Emmett Till was accused of whistling at a white woman in Mississippi in 1955. He was murdered, his body and face mutilated, and it became an international story. The white woman who said Till whistled at her, Carolyn Bryant, would later admit she fabricated the entire story. The white men who murdered Till were never indicted. Mamie Till passed away in 2003. Considering the stories of so many unarmed Black boys and men who are wrongfully killed, from Trayvon Martin to Botham Jean , this film is seriously relevant and necessary. SEE ALSO: Outrageous! His long teased project has finally been unveiled. On the heels of  Slime Language , which was released last month, Thugger drops the aptly titled  On The RVN . The EP is only six tracks deep but does pack some interesting artist collaborations. As Rap-Up noted Jeffery links with Jaden Smith on the previously released “Sin”. On “High” he brings Sir Elton John to the fold with a sample of the icon’s “Rocket Man”. Originally announced in September 2017,  On The RVN is being billed as his “most vulnerable project to date”. This might ring true as the “Best Friend” rapper is currently facing some heavy prison time. Last fall during a traffic stop in Atlanta he was caught with a medley of drugs including hydrocodone, marijuana and codeine. Additionally police also found an unregistered firearm in the vehicle. Thug has since been charged with eight felony charges. He now awaits trial. You can listen to  On The RVN below. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Photo: WENN.com

J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival Rescheduled For Next Spring With New Lineup

The one-day fest will now take place in April of next year with a new lineup to be released at a later date, according to a press release. Ibrahim Hamad, Cole’s manager and President of Dreamville Records, said in a statement: “We battled with the idea of moving forward with the festival at this time or formally cancelling the event. But after receiving unwavering support from the fans and the community, we are excited to announce Dreamville Festival will now take place on April 6, 2019. We are proud to say that Dreamville this spring will also serve as a benefit to hurricane victims in the Carolinas. We hope that fans in North Carolina and across the US will not only join in celebrating the very first Dreamville Festival, but also the resilience of this amazing community.” According to the press release, it’s going down at Dorothea Dix Park near downtown Raleigh, North Carolina and Cole will still headline, of course. Tickets purchased for the previous date will be honored come April, but disappointed fans also have the option to request a full refund by October 5th, 2018. Stay tuned for more details. Prayers Up: Melyssa Ford Shares Heartbreaking Update After Near-Fatal Car Crash

Continued here:

Source: Credit: Derrick Salters/WENN.com Back in June, Melyssa Ford suffered a near-fatal car accident when an 18-wheeler crashed into her Jeep in L.A., causing it to flip three times. While Ford survived, as she was wearing her seatbelt, she fractured her skull and has spent the last few months trying to recuperate. Over the weekend, the model, actress, and former video vixen gave fans an update on how she’s been doing . “I’m battling Depression,” she started out. “Crushing, malignant Depression. It was always there; it’s just been made a little worse because of the head trauma from the crash.” She also explained that she feels guilty because although she survived, she’s not always grateful. “There are days where simple tasks takes the effort of 40 men,” she said in the Instagram caption. “Mornings where I’m unhappy to wake and see the sun because it’s another day spent listlessly looking for solid meaning in life. The guilt I feel at having survived and not feeling constant gratitude is a heavy weight to bear. I’m trying to jump back into my life but it feels like there are two Me’s: Before and After the crash. And I barely know who Before Me is anymore.” She ended her note by urging her followers to check in on their “strongest friend” because “no one ever does.” Our hearts go out to Ford and we are keeping her health and peace of mind in our prayers.
