SMH: The University Of Kansas Issues An Apology Following Snoop Dogg’s Risqué Stripper-Filled Performance

Source: MediaNews Group/Torrance Daily Breeze via Getty Images / Getty Snoop Dogg’s Performance At The University Of Kansas Didn’t Go Over Well A performance from the one-and-only Snoop Dogg brought some controversy to the University of Kansas . The college ended up issuing an apology on Friday night after the rapper performed as part of the “Late Night in the Phog” preseason celebration, which follows scrimmages by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The 35-minute set Snoop brought to Allen Fieldhouse featured women on stripper poles doing what women do on stripper poles, along with shooting fake money into the crowd, and performing the unedited versions of his hit songs, like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Gin and Juice.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by snoopdogg (@snoopdogg) on Oct 4, 2019 at 10:07pm PDT The vulgarity of the show reportedly raised some eyebrows, which led to Kansas’ athletic director Jeff Long issuing a statement to the Kansas City Star . In the apology, he explains that the school expected a “clean version” of the performance from the legendary rapper. “We apologize to anyone who was offended by the Snoop Dogg performance at Late Night. We made it clear to the entertainers’ managers that we expected a clean version of the show and took additional steps to communicate to our fans, including moving the artist to the final act of the evening, to ensure that no basketball activities would be missed if anyone did not want to stay for his show,” the statement said. “I take full responsibility for not thoroughly vetting all the details of the performance and offer my personal apology to those who were offended. We strive to create a family atmosphere at Kansas and fell short of that this evening.” There’s no word on how the university and Snoop Dogg had such a different understanding of what the performance was supposed to be, but in Snoop’s defense, it’s easy to see why he might have thought a “Late Night” event was meant to push the envelope a little bit. In the video posted by the Long Beach native following his show, the crowd at Allen Fieldhouse seemed to be loving the performance as they lowdly cheered him on. After word of the controversy got out, Snoop brushed it off by sharing a short statement on Instagram which seems to be in response to those saying he did too much. “Thank. U for letting me be me. This is America,” he captioned the post. View this post on Instagram Thank. U for letting me be me . This is America A post shared by snoopdogg (@snoopdogg) on Oct 5, 2019 at 2:29pm PDT

#JoshuaBrown: Botham Jean’s Neighbor, A Key Witness In The Amber Guyger Murder Trial, Shot To Death

Source: Stewart F. House / Getty Joshua Brown, Key Witness In The Botham Jean Trial, Killed According to Dallas News , Botham Jean’s neighbor, Joshua Brown, was killed Friday. He was a key witness in the Amber Guyger murder trial that ended last week. The news came from social media posts by Lee Merritt, the lawyer who represented the Jean family:  “Joshua Brown, the next door neighbor of #BothamJean was killed last night after being shot several times by an unknown assailant. Local media have began reporting on the shooting but have not confirmed Brown’s identity,” Merritt wrote on Facebook. “[…] An ADA has confirmed that it was in fact Brown who was killed although they have yet to identify a suspect or motive for the shooting. The case is now in the hands of the Dallas Police Department.”   View this post on Instagram Joshua Brown, the next door neighbor of #BothamJean was killed last night after being shot several times by an unknown assailant. Local media has reported on the shooting but have not confirmed Brown’s identity. Because, Brown worked closely with prosecutors just a week ago to ensure Amber Guyger was properly convicted in the murder trial, the DA’s office has fairly direct contact with Brown and his family. An ADA has confirmed that it was in fact Brown who was killed although they have yet to identify a suspect or motive for the shooting. The case is now in the hands of the Dallas Police Department. Brown’s testimony stood out as a fact witness who was approaching his apartment directly across from Botham Jean’s apartment when shots rang out. Brown was still visibly shaken up from the incident when he took the stand to testify on behalf of the prosecution. His murder underscores the reality of the black experience in America. A former athlete turned entrepreneur— Brown lived in constant fear that he could be the next victim of gun violence, either state sanctioned or otherwise. We have more work to do deal with the constant threats to our community both from within and without. Brown deserves the same justice he sought to ensure the Jean family. The Dallas County criminal justice system must mobilized to identify his killer and see that he is held accountable for this murder. A post shared by S. Lee Merritt, Esquire (@leemerrittesq) on Oct 5, 2019 at 1:25pm PDT Joshua Brown,28, lived across the hall from Jean at the time of Jean’s September 2018 murder. Brown took the stand during Guyger’s trial, delivering an emotional testimony on the events of that tragic day. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and no one is in custody. Unconfirmed rumors spread that Brown was shot in the mouth, but the Dallas News has since confirmed that he was shot in the back and thigh. This story is still developing…

Where The Cash At: R. Kelly Is Being Accused Of Hiding Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars In Childhood Friend’s Bank Account

Source: Pool / Getty R. Kelly Is Being Accused Of Stashing Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars According to The Blast , R. Kelly is being accused by prosecutors of hiding a boatload of cash in his childhood friend’s bank accounts. Court documents show that prosecutors believe the R&B legend is flat out lying about being broke and that he has been diverting his music royalty payments to a third party. Prosecutors state: “the defendant’s contention that he has “almost no financial resources” is also misleading. In fact, the defendant continues to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in connection with royalties he is owed for his music. The government’s investigation has revealed that earlier this year, the defendant re-directed those royalties to the bank account of a childhood friend. Regardless of where those funds are being held, however, they belong to the defendant and, at any time, the defendant can redirect those funds – and future royalty proceeds earned – to an account in his name.” If true, things could get even uglier for Kelly as he sits in jail already facing a slew of other charges.

Entrepreneur Creates ‘Raising Black Millionaires’ Flashcards To Teach Youth About Building Wealth

Original post:

R epresentation is everything. In an effort to teach children about the importance of entrepreneurship and building wealth, a Black-owned media company based in New Orleans created a flashcard game that highlights the journeys of Black millionaires and billionaires, the Chicago Defender reported. Each card includes the individual’s backstory and the awards and accomplishments that they’ve made throughout their careers. Entrepreneur Thiah Veona Muhammad , who created the cards, believed it was important for children to see examples of Black wealth outside of the entertainment and sports industries. “I think it’s imperative that we, as Black people, know who our millionaires and billionaires are, more specifically those who are in business and are non-entertainers/athletes,” Muhammad said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “Showing them real examples of people who look like them, making millions in various industries will not only help them to identify themselves as people of greatness, but it will introduce them to industries that they likely have never been exposed to before, giving them more career choices.” Amongst the business moguls featured in the deck are Janice Bryant Howroyd and Pamela J. Booker . She hopes that parents and educators will use the cards as a tool to educate and empower Black youth. This isn’t the first educational tool that Muhammad has created for African American parents and children. In 2015 she released a book titled How to Raise Your Black Child to Be a Millionaire: Child-rearing Secrets of the Black Elite and she also launched a blog that features lessons about financial literacy and wealth creation that can be implemented in the household and the classroom. The company also has a Raising Black Millionaires podcast where Muhammad leads candid conversations with African American millionaires on how their parents helped guide them towards success. Many Black entrepreneurs have created educational products to empower the youth. African American inventor Elliott Eddie created The Entrepreneur Game to teach children what goes into running a business. B lack women are making historic moves in the realm of entrepreneurship. According to Atlanta Black Star , Dr. Venaya Jones recently opened the first veterinary clinic in Cleveland to be owned and operated by an African American woman. The facility offers a wide spectrum of services including diagnostic exams, dermatology, wellness visits, and hospice care. Dr. Jones—who discovered her passion for helping animals at a young age—says she wants to utilize the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic as an avenue to push animal health care forward and establish the clinic as a go-to veterinary facility in Cleveland. “I feel like it’s a great opportunity here in Cleveland, especially there being no other vet hospitals here,” she said in a statement. “There are tons of people with pets, we’re in the health tech corridor. I mean, this is where quality medicine is discovered and done, and I want to be a part of that.” For the Western University College of Veterinary Medicine graduate, opening up the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic was about more than her passion for animal health care; its about representation. Dr. Jones hopes her journey will inspire Black youth to pursue careers in veterinary medicine. She mentors youth and other women of color who are interested in stepping into the field. “I’m hoping to uplift the community both physically and emotionally, health wise by taking care of their pets, but … also bringing a sense of pride and a sense of accomplishment,” she said. “I want to be able to show other [young minorities] that they can do it, anything that they dream of, because here is a Black woman that’s come into this community and made it happen.” Black entrepreneurs are breaking barriers in the medical field. Earlier this year a group of African American medical professionals joined forces to open up Chicago’s only Black-owned urgent care facility .
