Tupac’s Belongings To Be Donated To Temple University

T he late rapper Tupac Shakur ’s impact and influence spanned far beyond the music industry. Shakur was known for using his platform to bring attention to issues faced by the Black community. 22 years after his tragic death, Temple University is paying homage to the rapper by adding some of his belongings to their Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection, USA Today reported. A collection of items belonging to the late Tupac Shakur—including jewelry and several handwritten documents—are now part of the @BlocksonTU Collection. https://t.co/XrIVyf1g8G — Temple University (@TempleUniv) November 1, 2018 The collection—which is known for being one of the most extensive collections of items that captures the essence of the Black experience in America and beyond—has nearly 500,000 items, the news outlet writes. Amongst Tupac’s items that will be added include handwritten lyrics from some of his most popular songs, handwritten track listings and his jewelry. All the items were donated by Goldin Auctions of Runnemede. The Philadelphia-based university offers a course that explores the legacy of Shakur. “He’s a hip-hop icon,” Diane Turner , a curator of the Blockson collection said in a statement, according to the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education . “This is a significant, contemporary addition to our already impressive collection of music items, ranging from African instruments to material from John Coltrane, Grover Washington Jr. and Natalie Hinderas. We are thrilled.” News about the donation comes shortly after the 22nd anniversary of his first posthumous album Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory . Happy Birthday Solàna! SZA’s Sexiest Moments

Source: Frederick M. Brown/Getty Today SZA celebrates her 28th year of life and we couldn’t let the day go by without wishing the budding superstar a happy birthday! Born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 8, 1990, Solàna Imani Rowe became the apple of America’s eye when she released her debut studio album, CTRL , last year. Debuting at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200, the critically acclaimed album took fans through a rollercoaster of emotions and really let us all in to who SZA is as a young woman…if nothing else, you walked away knowing she loves her late grandmother with everything in her. Songs like “Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott, “Garden,” and “Normal Girl” kept us singing, but everyone who’s anyone knows it was her standout track “The Weekend” that got music lovers hooked on Solàna. [ione_media_gallery src=”https://globalgrind.cassiuslife.com” id=”4241503″ overlay=”true”] She said the song isn’t about being a side chick, but women everywhere sang the song in that vain and some even criticized SZA for “glorifying” mistresses…which led to this tweet of clarification from the TDE songwriter: “My man is MY man Is YOUR man heard thts HER man too : thts 3 women ..Not two. all getting played. one opted out. No side chick .Sorry lol.” Boop! One way or another, millions of women related to the song, giving SZA her first no. 1, as “The Weekend” peaked at the top of the Hot R&B Songs chart. All in all, SZA gave us a great album and despite damage to her vocal cords, has continued to work hard and flourish. So, today we celebrate the young queen. Hit the flip for a gazillion of Solàna’s sexiest moments because—if you ain’t know—she got these boys crushin’… HARD hard.

An Andrew Gillum Recount Could Be In The Works

A ndrew Gillum ’s historic race for Florida governor may not be over. After conceding defeat on Tuesday night, there’s news of a possible recount. See Also: Andrew Gillum Barely Loses Florida Governor Race By The Slimmest of Margins Gillum’s camp reportedly said there are more votes to be counted that could put the Tallahassee mayor over the top, according to a tweet from April Ryan of American Urban Radio. https://twitter.com/AprilDRyan/status/1060196196948566017 Gillum, who could become Florida’s first African-American governor, came up short Tuesday night by a slim margin of 49.7 percent to 49 percent against his GOP rival Ron DeSantis . In an emotional speech, Gillum apologized to his supporters. “I sincerely regret that I couldn’t bring it home for you,” he said, referring to his campaign slogan. But many said he conceded too soon. I'm not so sure Andrew Gillum should've conceded. It's getting closer & closer. — Shaun King (@shaunking) November 7, 2018 Meanwhile, in another potentially historic race, Democrat Stacy Abrams is calling for a recount in her race for Georgia governor. Her rival, Republican Brian Kemp , won 50.4 percent of the vote to Abrams’ 48.7 percent. A Libertarian candidate received the remaining votes. Under Georgia law, if no candidate wins more than 50 percent of the vote, then the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff election. Abrams could become the first African-American woman governor. In Florida, an automatic recount of all votes is triggered when there’s a lead of less than one half of a percentage. If the margin of victory is under one quarter of a percentage point, a hand recount is ordered. DeSantis won by over 55,000 votes (.68 percent) in the intial vote count–very close to triggering a recount. Uncounted ballots could shake up this race. This story will be updated. Chris Pine & Aaron Taylor Johnson Get Real For Outlaw King | Extra Butter

Netflix is about to take over the end of 2018 with a bunch of great movies but today we are talking about the movie you have to see this weekend if you decide to Netflix and chill. Outlaw King is an epic war movie that’s a little Game Of Thrones without all the fantasy and make-believe. This true story picks up after the events highlighted in Braveheart and follows Robert the Bruce, who has just been named the King of Scotland, after breaking a truce with England, the legendary warrior and a small group of men are forced into exile by the English army but he puts together a band of outlaws to help him reclaim the throne. On this episode of Extra Butter with Xilla Valentine I flew out to Scotland to sit down with Chris Pine who plays Robert the Bruce and Aaron Taylor-Johnson who gives a kick-ass performance as the ferocious James Douglas for an interview that took place at Borthwick Castle. Chris Pine talked about how authentic the movie feels saying, “The unique quality of this film for me, it’s a film on a huge scale like others I’ve done before but with Netflix, we were given an incredible amount of freedom and wherewithal to make to make a film by someones whose vision of that classic Hollywood film is very very different. One of the qualities of David Mckenzie that I most admire is his is his search for authentic moments. Often times it was just four cameras shooting us as we were being and there was no sense of the usual structure of a film set. So you just got more of a sense that you were happening rather than acting and that was very helpful.” My guy Aaron opened up about how he pulled off such a frightening character in order to make it believable. He told me, “These characters are from 6-700 hundred years ago and you’re looking at historical moments in time, he was a very feared character. The Black Douglas was someone that people would have nightmares about because of the violent brutality he brought upon his enemies, but he was also this romantic figure. When Robert the Bruce passed away he carried his heart towards the holy land in a casket around his neck. So I wanted to have this loveable character also.” Just listening to his explanation sent chills up my spine. Another thing that might be scary to some is that I got to feed a buzzard that you can see at the start of this episode. Back during the times of this movie, the natives would use large hunting birds to catch meals for their family and you get to see a bit of that in this episode of Extra Butter. I hope you enjoy and be sure to check out Outlaw King streaming on Netflix this weekend November 9th.

Andrew Gillum Barely Loses Florida Governor Race By The Slimmest of Margins

A ndrew Gillum  barely fell short on Tuesday night in his historic campaign to become the first Black governor of Florida’s next governor. CNN projected that the contentious election would go to Republican and former Congressman Ron DeSantis , who edged the mayor of Tallahassee by the slimmest of margins that, in classic Florida fashion, could result in a recount. Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum: “We didn't win it tonight. We didn't win this transaction. But I want you all to know that is just it, a transaction, that what we believe in still holds true today.” https://t.co/QF15MHrJt2 #ElectionNight pic.twitter.com/RfsNpoY8y4 — ABC News (@ABC) November 7, 2018 Andrew Gillum concedes to GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis in Florida's gubernatorial race: “We recognize that, you know, we didn't win it tonight. We didn't win this transaction.” https://t.co/QF15MHrJt2 #Midterm2018 pic.twitter.com/lFYbOlVgJs — ABC News (@ABC) November 7, 2018 With 48.9 percent of the vote, Gillum, who earned more than 3.9 million votes, lost to DeSantis by a single percentage point, according to CNN’s count . Gillum, 39, cast his own ballot for himself late Tuesday morning at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee. He and his wife, R. Jai, and used a moment of levity for what was the biggest moment of his young but accomplished political career, according to the Tallahassee Democrat . “I voted for you,” R. Jai told her husband, who responded in front of a throng of supporters: “Okay, my wife voted for me.” ELECTION RESULTS: Follow NewsOne’s Midterm Election Coverage Here The election, however, was anything but a laughing matter. The post-primary Florida gubernatorial campaign has been marred by overt acts of racism from the DeSantis, whose distinguished record of racism has been well documented for years. On top of that negative distraction, Gillum was polling by as many as seven percentage points and as few as three over DeSantis, depending on which survey was being cited. The distinction between the two became clearer when they faced off twice for gubernatorial debates, during which Gillum showed his mastery of Florida policy while reducing DeSantis to racist dog-whistling attacks instead of substantive talking points. Aside from warning Florida voters not to “monkey this up” by electing Gillum, the Republican’s white supremacist supporters funded racist robocalls to Floridians that included monkey sounds. There was even the apparent FBI probe into Gillum allegedly inappropriately receiving tickets to the hit Broadway show “Hamilton,” but that issue seemed to fade pretty quickly after DeSantis tried to make it into a bigger deal than it was during the debates. Still, Gillum found the time to remain an effective mayor while waging a legitimate run for governor, even suspending his own campaign twice to deal with natural disaster striking Florida as well as a deadly shooting in Tallahassee. Keep Hope Alive! Jesse Jackson Personally Escorts 5 New Voting Machines Into Georgia Polling Place

W ith such widespread reports of failing voting machines across the country, it took a civil rights icon to steward what could become an iconic civil rights moment during the highly consequential midterm elections on Tuesday. As voting suppression was seemingly being realized in real-time, a video posted to social media showed two men bringing five voting machines into a polling place in Georgia, with the Rev. Jesse Jackson bringing up the rear, looking like he was overseeing the entire process. People could be seen standing around (read: not voting) in the Pittman Park Recreation Center in South Atlanta before the new machines were brought in to a welcoming round of applause that may as well have doubled as a collective sigh of relief. It could become a defining moment in the fight against the very real voter suppression efforts Georgians have seen in the weeks ahead of Election Day. Watch it below. @RevJJackson walking in with 5 new voting machines #gapol #MidtermElections2018 pic.twitter.com/eeD5jUnvNL — Kathleen Quillian (@QuillianK) November 6, 2018 According to  Kathleen Quillian‏, the news producer who tweeted the footage, voters who arrived at Pittman Park Recreation Center were greeted by just three voting machines, forcing people to have to wait for up to four hours. @RevJJackson is at the Pittman Park Recreation center in South Atlanta. Supporting those voters who have waited in line for 4 hours due to only having 3 voting machines. pic.twitter.com/ax2Ba8mQFV — Kathleen Quillian (@QuillianK) November 6, 2018 With such anticipation surrounding the election, it was up to the officials overseeing the election to plan ahead for what was expected to be a high voter turnout. So it was no wonder that the Republican candidate running for governor, Brian Kemp , also happened to be Georgia’s secretary of state. His opponent, Stacey Abrams , could become the first African-American woman in U.S. history to be governor. While voters were reportedly experiencing the entire gamut of issues at the polls — voter intimidation, voter suppression, poll worker apathy, and more — it seemed to be more pronounced in Georgia. In many instances, the issues were resolved quickly, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution . Election officials provided spare voting machines. But, then, that still begs the question why all of the voting machines were not made available to voters in the first place, what with all of the complaints about lines that routinely come with elections.
