T allahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is prepared to return fire if his GOP rival for Florida governor Ron DeSantis wants to “go there” during their debate on Sunday night in Tampa, which CNN will air at 8 p.m. SEE ALSO: Andrew Gillum’s Support Extends Well Beyond The Black Community, Poll Shows “We waited 20 months or so for this moment when we’d get to compete in a contest of ideas about where we’re going to take the state of Florida,” said Gillum, who could become Florida’s first African-American governor. “Hopefully, we’ll be in for a good substantive conversation. I’ll do my best to keep it substantive. But I’ve warned you, if Mr. DeSantis wants to take it there, we’ll go there.” The CNN live stream will be available on CNN.com and on mobile devices through the network’s apps for iOS and Android. He warned Florida voters, less than 24-hours after winning the GOP nomination in August, not to “ monkey this up ” by electing Gillum. A closer look at his background revealed that DeSantis has a long racist history . Gillum wants to debate the merits of his progressive agenda for the state, which includes his proposals to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour, increase starting teacher pay to $50,000, expand Medicaid and ending the state’s infamous “stand your ground” law. DeSantis, if he decides to debate the issues, is expected to counter that Gillum would be fiscally irresponsible, weak on crime, and too open to immigration as governor—basically touting Trump’s “make American great again” agenda. Expect DeSantis also to accuse Gillum of corruption. Federal investigators are looking into whether businessmen were able to influence Tallahassee development projects. Gillum has said the FBI told him he’s not the focus of its investigation. However, the mayor reportedly took expensive trips that his political enemies believe were paid for by lobbyists. Gillum has reportedly presented receipts for those trips, and he’s cooperating fully with the investigation. Meanwhile, Trump has been lobbed attacks at Gillum on DeSantis’ behalf. W hen NFL star Marshawn Lynch isn’t on the football field, he’s focused on giving back to those in need. His latest philanthropic project will provide the homeless population in Oakland and Seattle with smartphones, AfroTech reported. Marshawn Lynch Wants To Put Cellphones In The Hands Of The Homeless #AfroTech https://t.co/wyAsmTDxOO pic.twitter.com/genMidAF0m — Afrotech (@AfroTech) October 18, 2018 Lynch’s mobile device company Beast Mobile has joined forces with Fam1st Family Foundation to create an initiative called Phones for the Homeless. Through the project, 3,000 homeless people on the West Coast will receive smartphones and three months of free service. Each phone will come equipped with the Beast Mobile app which allows users to receive credits for playing games, participating in surveys and watching videos. Beast Mobile and Fam1st Family Foundation launched this project in efforts to examine the habits and whereabouts of individuals who are homeless so that they can better serve that population. They also hope that through this project those who receive the phones will be able to stay in touch with their loved ones and access the internet for resources. “There is a myth out there that homeless people already get phones from the Government. To qualify for a phone you must already receive some type of assistance like food stamps or Medicare/Medicaid. Also you need to have a home address which homeless people do not have,” read the initiative’s website . “With Seattle having the 3rd largest homeless population in the U.S. and Oakland (and the Bay Area) having the 4th largest, Beast Mobile and Fam1st Family Foundation are committed to providing a solution to help city officials communicate with this previously untrackable demographic.” Phones for the Homeless is currently working towards raising $250,000 to provide individuals with three months of free service. Bright Corporation has pledged to donate 3,000 phones. Homelessness has been a pressing issue in our country. A recent study revealed that Black Americans are about three times more likely to live on the streets than white Americans. Source: Alexei Cruglicov / Getty The weather is changing. The coats are getting heavier. The sun goes down earlier. And the desire to be cuddled up, spending time with the one you like is at an all time high. In millennial lingo, we summarize all those feels with one term: Cuffing Season. It feels like we were just flipping burgers on the grill for Labor Day — now folks are scanning their recent dating rosters to see who’s good enough to spend the majority of their time with for the next eight months or so. One Twitter user joked , “It’s cuffing season baby. time to lose ur sense of self and merge identities w another person bc it’s cold outside.” While some folks are scrambling to decide between their top three eligible candidates — some of us are just fine staying aboard the “single and lovin’ it” train. Bustle recently did an article on why Cuffing Season is an awesome time to be single, and it brought up many valid points. Heather Ebert , a dating and relationship expert at WhatsYourPrice.com, told the site, “Cuffing season is, in part, a result of societal pressure dating. A lot of it has to do with singles not wanting to show up alone when they go home for the holidays. Some people want to be showered with gifts … others just want to cuddle up next to someone to stay warm.” She added, “It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of cuffing season and rush to settle down for the winter. But those romances are unlikely to outlast the cold because they’re rushed and usually not met with intentions of lasting any longer. Instead of focusing on settling down for the last part of the year, spend some time on yourself and with your family.” It’s not just the experts who say Cuffing Season is nothing but hype. Shy_Charles recently tweeted, “Not being funny but cuffing season isn’t really a thing, is it? Like yeah the nights draw in and it’s Christmas and that but you’ve got Valentine’s straight after and then summer romances after that! Every season is cuffing season, let’s just be serious.” Let’s do something a little different this go round, and celebrate the uncoupled and uncuffed this year with seriously Anti-Cuffing Season songs. If you’re super single, feel free to add your own to the list. via GIPHY

After we’d finish the Washington Social club and a couple of other ones, we’d all go down to Jackson street to the Elks club. When they’d finish playing, everybody would go into a corner, Ray would let me get in the corner, and they had it on their thumb. P ostal worker, Kierra Coles , 26, has been missing since October 2. She mysteriously disappeared near her South Side Chicago neighborhood. A neighbor’s surveillance video showed Coles in her U.S. Postal Service uniform, heading to work on Oct. 2, WGN-TV reported. She passed her car, went across the street and disappeared out of the frame. Coles was also three months pregnant. Her mother, Karen Phillips, recently sat down for an interview WGCI 107.5 Radio. SEE ALSO: Black Mother Speaks Out: Girls And Women Are Turning Up Missing In Chicago Phillips said, “I felt something was wrong. I had been calling her all that day on Wednesday (Oct. 3). I said maybe she had forgot her charger and her phone is dead. So when I started calling her on Thursday it was going to voicemail. I just didn’t feel right. I went over to her house to call the police for them to do a well-being check because I had seen her car. So I said, okay she’s probably just in there, maybe she’s asleep or – I don’t know, I just didn’t feel right.” Phillips did say the Chicago police department has been conducting an investigation, along with the postal inspector, she explained, “The postal inspector, he has been calling and checking in saying, ‘We are doing all we can. There’s things that we can’t tell you right now, but we’re doing all we can.’ I’m just guessing they just want to have facts together, they don’t want to give me bits and pieces.” Karen also addressed the rumor that her boyfriend killed Kierra, she said, “I don’t think he was involved.” Her sister, Keshia Phillips, who was also in the studio said, “We’re not singling anybody out. We know he is going to be a suspect, but as far as people putting his mother, his kids — all that stuff up there — that’s just not right. We’re not asking nobody to do that, that’s not the type of help that we’re looking for.” Watch the interview below. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering $28,000 for information about Coles’ disappearance, the Chicago Tribune reports. “At this point, anything is possible,” said the postal inspection services’ spokesperson Julie Kenney . “We’re just looking for information.” It’s Been 4 Days My Heart Is Aching!!! N ow that the dust has settled, a Black soccer dad reflected on how his encounter on Sunday with deputies could have ended badly for him. See Also: Please Stop Giving Racist White Women Adorable Nicknames “Anything could have escalated — me going to jail, my kid seeing me like that,” Gerald Jones told ABC News affiliate WJXX-TV on Wednesday. A white woman dubbed “golfcart Gail” on social media confronted Jones at a youth soccer match in Ponte Vedra, Florida after the dad yelled instructions to his 13-year-old son who was playing. Jones explained to her that he wasn’t screaming at the referee. But she felt intimidated and called the cops. A witness, Ginger Williams , who is white, recorded the police encounter and posted it to Facebook under the headline, “Soccer while black.” She didn’t know the father before the incident but felt that she couldn’t remain silent given the wave of similar incidents. Tears rolled down Jones’ face as he recalled having a conversation with his son about the incident. “I’m working hard every day. Do everything right. Love everybody. And my son, he’s like, ‘Hey, I just don’t understand it.’ I don’t understand it. Something has to be done. What can be done? I don’t know, but it’s just too much,” Jones said. Jones believes golfcart Gail owes him an apology. However, Gail’s boss defended her actions, adding that the incident was “sensationalized.” SEE ALSO: Kierra Coles’ Mother Addresses Rumors That Boyfriend Is Involved In Her Disappearance Real Life Uncle Ruckus!
