[WATCH] Empowering Video Of Mother Singing Song To Bullied Son Goes Viral

Here’s what we know: Bullying isn’t just mere child’s play for our children. Just last week, we reported that a nine-year-old Alabama girl, McKenzie Adams , committed suicide because she was being teased by her classmates for being Black. To combat the negative effects of bullying against her child, one Georgia mother is using the gift of song to remind her son that he is special and that his life matters. In the viral video below, Briana Hampton can be seen singing Major’s “ Why I Love You ” to comfort her 6-year-old son, Isiah, who is being teased at school for his dark skin. “My son has been bullied at school and kids have been teasing him about his Darkskin. Me and my husband  @_latruth  always say Son your handsome and those kids are mad their not you,” Hampton wrote in a caption. The 26-year-old mother of three added, “Today I found the perfect song to tell my son how much i love him! I love you Isaiah your handsome and chocolate. The lady’s love chocolate men too. Ain’t that right ladies?  #latruth   #mrslatruth   #thehamptons”   Just beautiful! HelloBeautiful sat down with Hampton to talk about what prompted this beautiful video, where she believes this type of racist bullying comes from and what parents can do to protect their children. HelloBeautiful: What was going on with your son to prompt you to make this video? Briana Hampton: Ever since he’s been going to this new school, which is predominately white, I noticed that he was always complaining about not having any friends. I am not sure what started it, but I kept telling him, “Oh you’re going to make friends, Isiah.” After that, I would ask him how things were going at school and he said everything was fine, but I knew something was going on. He was always so jolly and happy and then things started to change. HB: What was the biggest thing that alarmed you about your son’s behavior? BH: He has an iPhone and I would take all these pictures of him on it, and then one day I noticed that all the photos of him were gone and were replaced with pictures of white boys. So I asked him “Isaiah, where are all the pictures of you? Why are these pictures in here?” He said to me that he didn’t want to see pictures of himself and that he wanted to be like the white boys and that white people were cooler than him. He also told me that his skin and hair were ugly and that he wanted to change his skin color.   HB: That must have been heartbreaking.  BH: It was. He’s only in kindergarten and he’s never said anything like that before. So I told him, “Isiah, you are beautiful and there is nothing wrong with how you look.” Soon after, I went to the school and spoke to the teachers and asked them to do a buddy program, and they said they would look into it, but I don’t think it’s working, because he is still saying that he doesn’t have any friends. I tried to ask who were the people doing this, was it Black kids, was it white kids, who was it. He is so little, he tells me that he doesn’t see color. That, and he doesn’t want to tell me who it is exactly. But here’s what I know is that racism is taught at home. These children are learning this from their parents, who because Trump’s in office, their attitude is “ we can be racist ’cause he gets away with it, so i can too.” That, and hurt kids hurt other kids. Bullying starts at home too. HB: Completely. So to combat this racism towards your son, you made this video?  BH: Yes. I have three kids, and I wanted to do something for Isiah and have some one on one time with him to show him how much I love him. And to show him that he is beautiful in his own skin.   HB: The video has now gone viral and has gotten such a beautiful response. Did you ever expect it would be received like this? BH: Not at all [Laughs.] I didn’t even think my son would respond with crying. I just thought he would laugh. But people have been so great and encouraging. I’ve been showing Isiah all of their comments and videos of other dark skin Black men like LeBron James and Michael Jordan to show them how confident they are with themselves. I definitely think he had a breakthrough. HB: That’s so encouraging to hear.  BH: Thank you. I just knew that I had to do something. I recently read that story of that little girl who killed herself and I saw that bullying is real. And to see my own son, depressed at six-years-old, I couldn’t sit back and do nothing. It’s a parents job to build their children up, that has to start at home. For us, the next steps for my husband and I are working with other parents and teachers to create an anti-bullying campaign at the school to raise awareness. HB: What’s your advice for parents whose children are being bullied? BH: First,  I would say, keep asking your kids questions about their day and how things are going—and make sure you ask them different types of questions. Also,  make sure to get involved in their school lives, pop up at their school, sit in the classrooms and have meetings with their teachers.  Our children are at school more than they are with you during the day, so you need to know what is going on. I know as parents we work a lot and work hard, but it’s important that e veryday when we come home from work, we set aside an hour and spend time with our children. They need our love and attention.  Most importantly, pay attention to your child’s behavior, especially if they were happy before and now they don’t want to talk to you or they just want to isolate themselves and spend time alone.  You can tell when someone’s energy us off and when it’s changing. If you can tell when your spouse’s energy change, your child isn’t any different.  HB: Final thoughts on what we can do to stop racist bullying? BH:   I just want people to know that like Isiah said, it’s not all about color. We are all people and in order for us to be union, we have to stop looking at what race we are, stop putting each other down and build each other up. This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.  RELATED NEWS: Tragic! Gucci Mane Scoffs At The Mere Mention of Eminem Being The “King of Rap”

Source: Prince Williams / Getty When it comes to being the “King of Rap” Atlanta Hip-Hop favorite Gucci Mane thinks Eminem doesn’t deserve to be in the conversation. Guwop stopped by The Rickey Smiley Morning Show , and the question of the Detroit fire spitter being at the top of the Rap game was brought up he was utterly disgusted at the mere thought. “You gotta come up with a better one. That ain’t even worth … ’cause I ain’t playin’ him in my car. You playin’ him in yours? You slidin’ around playin’ Eminem in your car with your old lady? Dolo play Eminem, just metaphors. Just goin’ in?  Gucci is me. I don’t know any regular black people who just ride around listening to Eminem in their free time. Or ever, really. #TooManyNapkins pic.twitter.com/FjIeLBh3Wc — Dark Zuckerberg (@STEFisDOPE) December 17, 2018 While Gucci has a point the famous line “men lie, women lie, numbers don’t,” made famous by the great Jay-Z could be applied to Eminem. Marshall Mathers latest album, Kamikaze upon its release landed at number one on the Billboard 200 moving 434,000 records in its first week. Gucci’s most recent effort Evil Genius  is currently projected to sell 54,000 to 59,000 albums. His project before that  El Gato: The Human Glacier  released back in 2017 peaked at No.28 on Billboard. But based on Twitter this is a discussion that needed to happen, and most people are riding with the head of 1017 Records. Do you agree with Gucci? Or is he reaching? — Photo: Prince Williams / Getty

This Is Personal! Hakeem Jeffries Targeted By Ocasio-Cortez

N ew York Democratic Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ’s plan to shake up the party in Congress reportedly involves the ouster of Rep. Hakeem Jeffries from his Brooklyn district in the 2020 primaries. For Ocasio-Cortez, targeting Jeffries is both political and personal. See Also: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Guts Open Sarah Huckabee Sanders And Her Trifling Father The incoming freshman congresswoman has already recruited an African-American woman to challenge Jeffries in the primary election, which is still two years away, an unidentified source told Politico reported. Jeffries, a political rising star who recently won the No. 5 House Democratic leadership position, is the “highest priority” for Ocasio-Cortez. However, her office denied to Politico that she had already recruited a candidate to challenge the congressman. Ocasio-Cortez, who won an upset primary victory in 2018 over incumbent Joe Crowley , is part of a group called the Justice Democrats that wants to replace moderates with progressives. Their main strategy is to defeat incumbents in future primaries. Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is eyeing a new member of House Democratic leadership as a 2020 primary target: Rep. Hakeem Jeffries https://t.co/bfUDcCzb5Y — POLITICO (@politico) December 18, 2018 When the Justice Democrats looked for potential targets, Jeffries’ name ended up at the top of their list. They don’t like that Jeffries, who was first elected to Congress in 2012, accepts considerable money from corporations, and they’re displeased with his close ties with the banking industry and charter school supporters. However, targeting Jeffries goes beyond those reasons for Ocasio-Cortez. “It’s personal for Ocasio. And she’s going to go all out to take him out,” a source told the news outlet. “Ocasio-Cortez is also unhappy that a campaign donation to her from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) was allegedly used in a whisper campaign against Lee before her narrow loss to Jeffries in the recent race for Democratic caucus chair,” Politico explained. But Jeffries is not an easy target. Since coming to Congress, the Brooklyn Democrat has gained a lot of political clout—rising to a post in House leadership after serving just six years. Jeffries, 48, is considered by many to be on track to become the first African-American speaker of the House. Unlike Crowley, he regularly keeps in touch with his constituents. Jeffries, a former corporate lawyer who has a war chest of more than $1 million to defend his seat, was unconcerned by the political threat. “It’s a free country and democracy is a beautiful thing. Spread love; it’s the Brooklyn way,” Jeffries said, quoting rapper Notorious B.I.G. SEE ALSO: Sen. Gucci Mane Thinks Eminem Is Nowhere Close To Being Rap’s King

Source: Prince Williams / Getty While I admit that I have been a Stan in the past, there are other factors – aside from rapping every word out of the dictionary – that should be used in order to determine who the real ‘best rapper’ is. I think Wop has a point! Via | HipHopDX ATLANTA, GA –  Gucci Mane  recently sat down with radio host Rickey Smiley for an episode of the  Ricky Smiley Morning Show  where he was asked about  Eminem  being dubbed the “King of Rap.” The 1017 Records boss was almost in disbelief that question even entered his atmosphere. “You gotta come up with a better one,” he says in the clip. “That ain’t even worth … ’cause I ain’t playin’ him in my car. Cardi B Defends Publicist Who Helped Offset Crash Her Rolling Loud Set

Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty The internet went crazy when Offset crashed his soon-to-be ex-wife’s headlining set at Rolling Loud in a feeble attempt to win her back. Now, festival organizers claim they had nothing to do with it, insisting Cardi’s team helped the Migos rapper with his shenanigans. Rolling Loud co-founder Tariq Cherif told Complex , “Headliners and their teams have full control of the stage and who is allowed on it during their set at Rolling Loud. The festival does not interfere with or influence a headliner’s set list. We have never and will never do anything to change a headliner’s set.” “We were tipped off that something was going to happen, but had nothing to do with the organization or execution of it,” Cherif added, before explaining away those deleted tweets that made Rolling Loud look guilty as all hell . “We were tipped off that Cardi was going to have multiple surprise guests, corroborated by what she said in her IG Live. One of specific guests we were told about didn’t end up showing up so we deleted the tweet, which is standard for us when things change as the night goes on,” he told Complex. “Deleting old tweets with bad intel isn’t usually alarming but once we realized that we were getting dragged for the surprise interruption, we panicked and deleted the tweet bc we knew it was going to make things look worse. In hindsight, deleting those tweets actually made us look worse. We recognize that it was a poor decision.” They also deleted this. pic.twitter.com/FdEfTh22HS — blah (@fushigiqueen) December 16, 2018 After hearing that Cardi’s team helped Offset facilitate the surprise, fans came at her publicist…but the “I Like It” rapper isn’t here for that, just like she isn’t here for any baby daddy bashing . “Y’all expect me to be OK with y’all dragging her because y’all don’t agree with some sh*t?” she asked via social media. “She was trying to help a man that was telling her like, ‘Yo, I love my wife. Please help me get my wife.’ She told me what happened. I’m not gonna let y’all drag my b*tch for that. Y’all buggin’ and thuggin’.” Watch below. Cardi was the first woman artist to ever headline the Rolling Loud festival, but now this is what fans will remember instead. Photo: Getty
