Apple has announced that its iPad tablet computer will be on sale on May 28 in nine countries outside the United States. The new markets include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK. The cheapest model with the same version in the US which costs $499 (£337) will retail at £429 in the UK. The difference in price is due to the British VA and US sales tax. In the UK, the gadget will range in price from £429 for entry-level model to £699 for the maximum capacity 64GB model that includes built-in access to third-generation (3G) mobile networks. Apple has already sold more than 1m iPads in the US since it went on sale in the US market on April 3. Starting on May 10, customers will be able to pre-order the device in the different markets.
