The Department of Education revealed yesterday that Swift has already donated $50,000 to the New York City public school system via proceeds earned from the single “Welcome to New York.” “We’re deeply appreciative of this kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the single ‘Welcome to New York’ to benefit NYC public schools,” Devora Kaye, the press secretary for the Department of Education, tells E! News. Swift pledged to give away all money earned from this track during an October appearance on The View. “It’s selling really, really well,” the crooner said of her Big Apple-themed anthem. “Which is good because I’m donating all my proceeds to New York City public schools.” And she’ll continue to do so until the end of time, insiders confirm. Since moving to New York about a year ago, the singer has made no secret of her love for the iconic city. “It’s amazing. It’s the greatest place ever,” the transplant previously gushed on The Late Show, telling viewers they should “drop everything” and go there as soon as possible. Taylor Swift, of course, has grown well known for magnanimous actions such as paying off the school loans of a fan and bringing another supporter backstage with her at the Grammys .
