Paris Hilton Detained In Japan After U.S. Cocaine Plea

Heiress held in hotel room as officials review Monday’s guilty plea. By Gil Kaufman Paris Hilton Photo: Newscom Despite entering a guilty plea in her cocaine-possession case in Las Vegas, Paris Hilton found out Tuesday (September 21) that the repercussions of her arrest will not go away immediately. After flying to Japan on what was described as a business trip to promote her fashion line, the 29-year-old party fixture was delayed by immigration officials upon her arrival in the country. The Associated Press reported that the promotional event on Tuesday was canceled, but it was unknown at press time if Hilton would continue on to the other countries on her itinerary: Indonesia and Malaysia. The promo tour had reportedly been planned before Hilton’s arrest last month after an officer found a small amount of cocaine in her purse following a traffic stop. “Paris was contractually bound to her business trip and didn’t want to let down her brands and many Asian fans,” Hilton spokesperson Dawn Miller said in a statement. “She intended on fulfilling her contract and is trying hard to do the responsible thing, but this is beyond her control. She is very disappointed by tonight’s events.” On Monday, Hilton pleaded guilty to drug possession and obstructing an officer in a deal that will save her from serving a one-year term in jail. In return, she has to pay $2,000 in fines, perform 200 hours of community service and complete what is being described as an “intensive” substance-abuse program. She was also given a one-year suspended sentence in the case, which means that if she is arrested for anything besides a minor traffic violation in Vegas in the next year, she will have to serve the full one-year term. Hilton will also be on probation for one year. The terms did not, however, restrict her travel overseas. TMZ reported that Hilton was held in a Japanese hotel overnight while immigration officials reviewed her case. An unnamed employee of the Consulate-General of Japan in New York told the site that the country has very strict rules about allowing people into the country with recent drug convictions. The hotel heiress was arrested August 27 in Las Vegas after the SUV she was riding in was pulled over and police found 0.8 grams of cocaine in her purse. Hilton later claimed the purse didn’t belong to her and blasted rumors surrounding her case . Related Photos Paris Hilton Pleads Guilty In Las Vegas Moments In Paris Hilton’s Legal Life
