This Weekend On Cable: War, What Is It Good For?

The long Memorial Day weekend’s at-home movie choices begin and end for some people with days’ worth of big, bloated war epics of yesteryear on TCM — with a few notables tossed into the dip like chili peppers. Beyond that, eccentric choices are everywhere, more fitting with the summer-launch BBQ than thoughts about Arlington Cemetery…

Today in Michael Bay: When an Underweight Megan Fox and TMNT Collide

You know what they say: When life throws you Megan Fox and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stories, make a Michael Bay update. Psych! I totally made that up! Never mind. Read on, however, for the odd news confluence that has necessitated a brief check-up on the Emperor.

Idol Finale’s Ratings Lowest Ever

American Idol logged its lowest season-ending ratings ever last night, but it still won the evening. No surprise on either count. In better news: Wow, Paige Miles can actually sing . And: Wow, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell looked like they’d consider reuniting forever , right? Thanks for the iota of hope, Simon Fuller. [ Variety ]

What’s On: FlashFinished

ABC’ s other time-warping supernatural thriller, FlashForward ends tonight. I guess the network cares about frivolous things like ratings instead of my long-standing affection for Gabrielle Union. Still, if there’s any episode to watch of FlashForward , it’s this one: the show’s mystery gets pretty much solved and we’re all zapped into a perpetual present. That last part is sort of like the end of most Chekhov plays. Grim!

Lifetime Spins Project Runway Off into… a Marriage Counseling Series?

Curse you, Marriage Ref , for making anyone believe that it is acceptable for celebrities to offer relationship advice to strangers. Sadly, Lifetime is making Jerry Seinfeld’s evil experiment a trend by developing a similarly-formatted series for Heidi Klum. And they’re positioning it as a Project Runway spin-off.

Is Doris Day the New Betty White?

The organizers behind one Facebook campaign would like to think so, but they’re not stopping at a barnburning guest-host stint on SNL ; they want gold . “Doris Day to be (finally) Honored by the Oscars?” has launched its bid for the 88-year-old legend to collect some honorary hardware at next year’s Academy Awards. Its argument? “As of 2009, Doris Day was the top-ranking female box office star of all time and ranked sixth among the top ten box office performers (male & female). Isn’t it time the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pulled out an HONORARY OSCAR AWARD ?” Well? [ Facebook ]

REVIEW: Yes, Sex and the City 2 Really is as Horrific as You’ve Heard

As I suffered through the nearly two-and-a-half-hour runtime of Sex and the City 2, I kept asking myself: What might I have done wrong, in a past life or in this one, that I deserve to have my eyeballs seared by Sarah Jessica Parker’s loony desert-princess getups? To suffer the agony of watching four actresses who have previously given me so much pleasure become undone by crap dialogue and, in one case, an overinflated ego? To gaze upon a couple of amazingly well-groomed camels and realize that they have better hairdos than the human movie stars astride them?

50 Cent’s Emaciated Cancer-Movie Look Ignites Fan Backlash

Holy crap, what happened to Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson? While the rapper-actor has been known to take his acting somewhat seriously in the past, no one likely foresaw the level of commitment he’d assume for his upcoming drama Things Fall Apart . Least of all his fans, who would just like to say that Fitty can regain that 50-plus pounds of muscle and body fat any time now .

Logan’s Run Finds New Director

Let’s check in with the Logan’s Run reboot, shall we? Deadline is reporting that Carl Erik Rinsch (the Ridley Scott protege who was recently attached to the Alien prequel) will now be helming the sci-fi tale of a world where no one lives past 21. Sadly, this means we won’t be getting the Bryan Singer-directed version anymore. Those casting sessions would have been legendary . [ Deadline ]

MTV Coaxes Sandra Bullock Out of Hiding

Here’s one way to ensure that Sandra Bullock shows up to your network event: present her with an award. The Oscar winner’s publicist confirmed that Bullock will be attending the MTV Movie Awards on June 6 to accept the MTV Generation Award, but of course, she won’t be available for any kind of interview. Her ex Jesse James is more than happy to pick up her slack on that front. [ People ]
