The Rap Career Is Probably A Wrap: 50 Cent Signs Up For New Movie And Starts Planning His Next Two

Welp. Looks like Bugsy is finally accepting that his rap career will never make it back to what it was in 2008. Via AllHipHop.com : 50 Cent will star in a new action thriller movie titled “The Pursuit,” which will be directed by Jesse Terrero, who has also signed a three-picture deal with the rapper’s Cheetah Vision Films and Emmett/Furla Films. The movie centers around a cop and a criminal, who are teamed together by accident in pursuit of a bank robber who has crossed both men. During the movie, a U.S. Marshal hunts both men to prevent them from killingnthe escaped robber before he is brought back to justice. The movie, which is slated to begin production February 15th in Louisiana, is one of nine films the Cheetah Vision/Emmett Furla partnership will produce this year and one of the ten that will be distributed under a distribution deal with Lionsgate. Emmett / Furla is currently taking advantage of $250 million in funding to produce a slew of movies, including “Broken City” starring Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe and “Frozen Ground” starring John Cusak, Nicolas Cage and Vanessa Hudgens and others. Now if we could just break him and his boo boo Floyd up and teach him to stop picking on Game…

A Modest Proposal to Turn Lady Gaga’s Fame Monster Into a Movie

Since news broke that a Lady Gaga biopic may be in the works, I’ve fretted. The 25-year-old superstar is ripe for a big-screen toasting, but she’s only been a phenomenon since the latter half of 2008. Would you want to watch a Madonna biopic that stopped after the release of True Blue ? Of course not. Lady Gaga has a gnarly, couture-bedecked arc ahead of her, and I say if she’s destined to be a cineplex draw, why not adapt her eight-track mini-album The Fame Monster into a full-fledged film?

Trailer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon Play Good Bike Messenger, Bad Cop in Premium Rush

Take it from Jennifer Aniston — working as a New York City bike messenger is neither glamorous nor exciting. Unless you’re Joseph Gordon-Levitt in David Koepp’s upcoming bike messenger thriller Premium Rush , in which case transporting packages across town is a fast-paced career option with hot co-workers, adrenaline rushes and the occasional highly dangerous assignment.

Well, Look Who Showed Up for Taylor Lautner’s Action Hero Debut at the Abduction Premiere

Everyone was all smiles Thursday night at the premiere of Abduction , which served as the action hero coming out party for Twilight star Taylor Lautner . Director John Singleton was beaming, co-stars Sigourney Weaver and Lily Collins strolled the red carpet, and hey, look! Tween pop star (and rumored former Lautner galpal) Selena Gomez popped up to lend her support! How sweet. And she brought her current paramour, Justin Bieber! Who looks totally thrilled to be there. Really.

Son of No One Trailer: Could We Be Looking at the Biggest Whiff of 2011?

The NYC cop drama/thriller Son of No One set up quite a bubble for itself ahead of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival: Talented filmmaker Dito Montiel ( A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints , Fighting ) had his muse Channing Tatum spearheading a cast including Al Pacino, Juliette Binoche, Katie Holmes, Ray Liotta and, going straight, Tracy Morgan, creds that helped the movie earn the festival’s prestigious closing-night spot. And then came that notorious press and industry screening, piercing the bubble and hurling Son into indie limbo. Art-house ensemble piece or genre potboiler? Misunderstood gem or biggest swing-and-miss of 2011? And while I’d never suggest judging a film by its trailer, the latest spot does prompt the necessary question asked of all marketing: Does this preview actually make you want to see Son of No One ? That’s where things get complicated.

No 50 Cent, You May Not Name Your Football Cancer Film After Africa’s Greatest Literary Work

Remember how rapper-filmmaker 50 Cent wrote, produced, and stars in a film about a football player who gets diagnosed with cancer ? The Mario van Peebles-directed flick was set to launch Fiddy into dramatic stardom under the title Things Fall Apart until reps for Nigerian author Chinua Achebe — who wrote a little book also called Things Fall Apart , practically the most famous African novel ever — contacted him with a copyright infringement complaint. 50 offered $1 million for use of the title, prompting Achebe’s camp to shoot back with a resounding rejection.
