Is Moneyball the Next Social Network?

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: A popular non-fiction book — without any real cinematic leanings — gets turned into a buzzed-about feature film with the help of Aaron Sorkin, Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, and Sony Pictures. Nope, not The Social Network — Moneyball ! ESPN writer Jon Weisman (formerly of Variety) makes the case that the Bennett Miller-directed film could be a sleeper hit next fall along the lines of The Social Network and that other Michael Lewis penned sports-book-turned-movie, The Blind Side . Probably not, but, hey, Brad Pitt is in it! So, maybe? [ ESPN ]

The Social Network’s Michael De Luca: ‘We’ve Kind of Thought of Ourselves as an Underdog from the Beginning’

With eight nominations , perhaps The Social Network isn’t the slam dunk runaway Best Picture favorite everyone thought it was, but that doesn’t mean producer Michael De Luca ( Boogie Nights , Magnolia ) is disappointed with what transpired this morning. In fact, trailing The King’s Speech and True Grit in total noms just plays into Team Social Network ‘s wheelhouse.

New Ebert Protege Ignatiy Vishnevetsky Fails Movie Quiz — How Would You Do?

I applaud him for playing along and testing his mettle, but there’s no doubt that Ignatiy Vishnevetsky — the new 24-year-old co-host on Roger Ebert Presents At the Movies — crashed and burned while taking The Daily Beast ‘s 10-question movie quiz . He compensated with a slick harangue to Aaron Sorkin midway through question eight, but still, he biffed. Would you have fared better?

DVD: Actors Love David Fincher’s Penchant for Multiple Takes, Says the Social Network Making-Of

David Fincher’s let’s-try-it-again method of shooting, whereby each take is done dozens, if not hundreds, of times, has gotten some mixed reviews from veterans of his films, most notably Jake Gyllenhaal . But the young up-and-comers who starred in The Social Network just love, love, loved it, if the making-of documentary, “How Did They Ever Make a Movie of Facebook?” — featured on the new DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment — is to be believed.

Allison Janney on Mr. Sunshine, Matthew Perry’s Helpful Insults, and Missing Aaron Sorkin

Allison Janney returns to primetime Feb. 9 on the ABC comedy Mr. Sunshine , playing Matthew Perry’s unpredictable boss. The four-time Emmy champ will exercise the comic chops she brought to Juno and Hairspray , dotting her punchlines with classic C.J. Cregg smarts. We caught up with Janney at the TCA press tour in Pasadena and discussed Mr. Perry’s candid commentary, her love-hate relationship with auditions, and her response to West Wing scribe Aaron Sorkin’s dialogue in The Social Network .

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: Killed By Sarah Palin!

No one is safe from Sarah the Caribou Slayer. With the unabashed hunting depicted on her TLC reality show, Sarah Palin’s Alaska, and her pointed rebuttals to Aaron Sorkin and PETA , the ex-Alaska Governor and current professional celebrity caused quite a stir earlier this month. Ever defiant, and fueled by the need to feed her family (an organic, protein-filled diet, no less) while guarding our God-given 2nd Amendment rights and earning maximum attention, she’s got someone special in the crosshairs today … Sarah Palin Kills Rudolph

Sarah Palin Shoots Back at Aaron Sorkin, PETA

In a rare interview with lamestream media outlet ABC, Sarah Palin sat down with Good Morning America ‘s Robin Roberts Friday to talk about taxes, government gettin’ outta the way, Barack Obama flip floppin’ and all sortsa other stuff. She also took a shot (not literally) at Aaron Sorkin . CARIBOU KILLER : Palin makes no apologies . Animal rights activist group PETA called Palin out after she shot a caribou on her TLC show, Sarah Palin’s Alaska, but she says at least that could be sincere. Sorkin calling her a witless bully, comparing her to Michael Vick and saying she killed the animal for political gain, on the other hand, has her all fired up. Sarah Palin responded to Sorkin’s statement, telling Roberts that “We eat, therefore we hunt – and I am thankful that I get to feed my kids organic food.” “He’s got some of those high powered rifles in some of his movies and TV shows though. I think those are aimed at human beings. Mine is aimed at dinner.” Of her critics, she says, “If they don’t wear leather shoes and a belt and drive a car with leather seats and they eat no meat, then they have somethin’ to say.” “And I can listen to them when they say, ‘How dare you kill an animal to feed a family?’ because they don’t participate in that. At least they’re sincere about it.” “I’d say 99% of the critics, you know, they’re wearin’ leather belts and they’re eatin’ their hamburgers – and they’re gonna tell me it’s immoral or not the right thing to do to go out and actually harvest that resource, that piece of protein myself?” There you have it, folks. Aaron Sorkin? Owned. Is it right? Team Sarah or Team PETA?

Even Injury Can’t Keep Justin Timberlake From His Movieline Double Date with Andrew Garfield

Steady yourselves, people of Earth: Justin Timberlake is on crutches. But as the singer-actor-pop demigod told me as he hobbled in for an in-depth chat alongside Social Network co-star/future Spider-Man Andrew Garfield last night, his injured leg may or may not be cause for concern — and thankfully, it didn’t stop him from making our late-night rendezvous.

Facebook Should Invent ‘Adore’ Button For Early Reviews of The Social Network

Until recently, the big question about David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin’s takedown biopic about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was whether it could live up to maybe the best trailer of the year . Now the film has finally screened and… forget the trailer! Can the film live up to this much critical hyperbole?
