The HUD secretary made another huge blunder today during a speech to employees where he called the U.S. the land of dreams and opportunity, Carson mentioned “immigrants” riding in the bottom of slave ships with dreams for their descendants: Via The Daily Beast : “There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less.” He added: “They too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great grandsons, great granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.” Pretty sure those “immigrants” on the bottom of slave ships were dreaming about escape, survival and death — not this so-called land of opportunity where they’d be forced to work for ZERO wages, be tortured regularly and torn away from their loved ones. Reality Star Starts Chemotherapy To Fight Cancer Via TMZ reports: The star of VH1′s “Real Chance of Love” — who was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer — will begin intense chemo treatments this week in order to fight off the disease … TMZ has learned. A rep for Ahmad Givens — who goes by Real — tells TMZ that the reality star met with doctors Thursday at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. The docs advised him to begin oral chemotherapy — which is chemo taken in the form of a pill rather than an IV — ASAP. The entire process is likely to take at least two years. The rep tells us Real is raising money to cover the staggering medical bills — claiming his insurance will only foot about 40% of the costs. We’re told Real’s devastated by the news, but staying strong for his family. And wants to do everything in his power to get better. Tea Party Members Protest Against Fox News For Becoming Too Liberal Wow the “fair and balanced” safe-haven for tea party chumps and conservatives is now being accussed of being too liberal??? According to The Daily Beast: Is Fox News going soft? That is what a number of Tea Party activists are saying and they are organizing a boycott to protest the conservative station’s coverage, especially what they view as the network’s relative silence in investigating the attacks on a diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya. “Particularly after the election, Fox keeps turning to the left,” said Stan Hjerlied, 75, of Fort Collins, Colo., and a participant in the boycott. He pointed to an interview Fox News CEO Roger Ailes gave after the election in which he said that the Republican Party and Fox News need to modernize, especially around immigration. “So we are really losing our only conservative network.” The three-day boycott lasted Thursday morning through Sunday morning, and is the second time this group of activists have gone Fox-free in an effort to steer the coverage. Organizers say a two-day boycott earlier this month knocked 20 percent off of the network’s regular viewership. (A Daily Beast analysis of the same data showed that the boycott had little effect.) A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment. A leader of the boycott, Kathy Amidon, of Nashville, declined an interview, instead directing The Daily Beast to a website, Benghazi-Truth. The website, a single-page, 23,000-word manifesto complete with multicolored fonts, supposedly incriminating videos of Fox News’s complicity in a coverup, and communist propaganda photographs, is kept by someone who identifies himself online as “Proe Graphique,” and who other members of boycott described as someone who works “in New York media.” Going without the conservative movement’s house organ, however, has proven to be no easy task for true believers. “I am having withdrawal. I do like Fox News,” said Kevin Avard, a former state lawmaker in New Hampshire who is participating in the boycott. “I have been going to CNN, and to Headline News just to get some kind of fix. I usually probably only watch them once or twice a year.” Hjerlied said that “If I want news, I go to Breitbart News and Drudge and I can find all the news I need, very quickly,” and after the first boycott, says he may have “kicked the habit” for good. “I used to have it on all day long, and I probably watched maybe six hours last week,” he said. “The more I looked at it, I have come to the conclusion that Fox is not as fair and balanced as I thought. They shade the truth also.” Among the demands the protesters have is that Fox News “be the right-wing CBS News: to break stories, to break information, and to do what news organizations have always done with such stories: break politicians,” that the network have at least one segment on Benghazi every night on two of its prime-time shows; that Fox similarly devote investigative resources to discovering the truth of Obama’s birth certificate; and that the network cease striving to be “fair and balanced.” “We need Fox to turn right,” said Hjerlied. “We think this is a coverup and Fox is aiding and abetting it. This is the way Hitler started taking over Germany, by managing and manipulating the news media.” SMH.
Jill Kelley, the now-infamous whistleblower in the David Petraeus scandal, was blackmailed by his mistress Paula Broadwell, according to a new report. Kelley says she was “terrified” late last summer when he told her about an email, later revealed to be from Broadwell, and the barrage that followed. “There was blackmail, extortion, threats,” Kelley told the Daily Beast in her first interview since the Petraeus scandal erupted three months ago. The emails, as Kelley would later learn, were from Paula Broadwell , whose affair with David Petraeus triggered his resignation as CIA director. The writer was so ambiguous, Kelley “didn’t even know it was a female.” Contradicting virtually every published account of the saga, Kelley indicates that the anonymous emails did not warn her to stay away from Petraeus. And yet the press depicted the two of them as “romantic rivals.” “Think how bizarre that is,” Kelley says. One person close to Kelley says the tone of the notes – numbering fewer than 10 – grew increasingly severe and, without being explicit, threatening. Did Kelley come to suspect that Broadwell was behind them. “I never met Paula in my life,” Jill Kelley says, noting that she didn’t even know Broadwell had just published a glowing biography of David Petraeus. It seems evident that Broadwell grew jealous about what she perceived as Kelley’s relationship with Petraeus; at an awards ceremony, he kissed her on the cheek. Kelley will not speculate about Broadwell’s motivation. Her complaint to the FBI set in motion a chain of events that culminated with Petraeus, the architect of U.S. war strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan, acknowledging his affair with Broadwell. The husband of Holly Petraeus resigned from the CIA. Kelley, 37, would also find herself the subject of speculation that she was carrying on with Gen. John Allen, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, which she flatly denies. Allen also has denied wrongdoing. Kelley bristles at those eye-catching media reports that she and Allen exchanged as many as 30,000 emails, calling the figure “outrageous.” What has been lost in the lurid and sometimes mocking coverage is the toll the scandal has taken on Kelley, her husband, and their three young children. The Magic Mike director gave insight into his future endeavors once his hard stop to movie making begins in six months. He told Reuters that a book and even television work may occupy his interests, following in the footsteps of a number of filmmakers who are crossing over to the small screen in the past several years. “I’ve been planning this for five years … I gave myself an out date and I’m right on schedule. I turn into a pumpkin in January,” Steven Soderbergh told Reuters . He also noted that he’s over making what he dubbed as “important movies,” adding that Che satisfied that desire. Following his latest, Soderbergh will finish off the thriller The Bitter Pill starring Channing Tatum, who also stars in Magic as well as Rooney Mara. And he also has the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon shooting this summer. I think they’re waiting for everybody’s lives to come back together…I don’t really know anything about it.” Speaking with Moviefone, she elaborated that things “fell apart” before the Hollywood satire/musical could move forward into production: “We didn’t get to shoot that movie. The Missing star wrote in The Daily Beast: “The Conversation about women’s bodies exists largely outside of all of us, while it is also directed at (and marketed to) us, and used to define and control us.” “The Conversation about women happens everywhere. We are described and detailed, our faces and bodies analyzed and picked apart, our worth ascertained and ascribed based on the reduction of personhood to simple physical objectification .” Judd continues to explain that as a general rule, she has refused to read media articles related to herself, because, “I do not want to give my power, my self-esteem, or my autonomy, to any person, place, or thing outside myself.” “I thus abstain from all media about myself.” When it came to the controversy over her unusually puffy face while promoting her new series, however, the actress got wind of it – and felt that there were underlying issues critically important to her and impossible to overlook. Judd lamented the “pointedly nasty, gendered, and misogynistic” rumors that embodies what “all girls and women in our culture endure every day.” “We are unable at times to identify ourselves as our own denigrating abusers, or as abusing other girls and women.
