Michaele Salahi and Neal Schon on "Fairy Tale" Love Affair: WINNING!!

“You wrote in your book she had to choose between us – and that Tareq won. Guess you’ll have to rewrite that now – because I won!” – Neal Schon to The Daily Beast , regarding a recent book on Michaele Salahi White House party crasher / reality star Michaele Salahi has stirred up quite a lot of gossip and controversy lately, and her husband, Tareq Salahi , has already spoken out about her running off with the Journey guitarist. Now she’s telling her side of it. Short story: It’s all true, and she’s happy. The cheaters spoke to The Daily Beast exclusively in a series of interviews, via telephone and text, as Schon’s band continues on its cross-country tour. “It’s like a fairy tale. It is, it really is,” Schon said from Tampa. “I’m very happy, very happy after waiting for her for 15 years. Now I want to get beyond all this media hype that Tareq has put out there. It’s quite embarrassing.” Michaele actually dated both Neal and Tareq in the late ’90s (Neal first) and there came a time she had to make a life decision – to marry Tareq. “I chose Tareq over Neal because I thought life would be less stressful living on a vineyard in Virginia. Life on the road with a rock band … well, I thought I might not have been able to keep up,” said Michaele, who suffers from MS. Yet Michaele made it clear she still had deep feelings for Neal. Fast forward to this summer. Just 10 days after they saw each other backstage at a Journey concert in Bristow, Va., she had run off with him for good. How? The couple now admits they had been communicating via text “for a while” over a device that a friend had sneaked to Michaele so the controlling Tareq wouldn’t find out she had a pipeline to the outside world. “Neal was like, ‘Are we going to do this forever?’ I said, ‘No, we’re not,’” Michaele said of the moment she realized it was time for another life decision. That was when she knew she would leave her husband for good: “I began to see he really loved me. I had to begin to feel it completely – in my soul.” Neal sent tickets and backstage passes to the Salahis to come to Journey’s Labor Day concert being held just 20 miles east of their home in Linden, Va. In what can only be described as painful irony now, the ever-sociable Tareq showed up backstage with a video camera, Michaele, and her friend Irina. He urged the women to surround Neal and kiss him, “Ahhh. There you go! Hugs and kisses for Neal!!! Rock on, Journey!” Tareq says in the background. Tareq would later supply that video to TMZ in an effort to humiliate his wife, along with an alleged pic of Neal’s penis he says that the rocker emailed. Tareq had no way of knowing the precise details of Michaele’s affair with Neal Schon , or exactly what happened just moments ago in his dressing room. But if he did any idea, he didn’t show it. “What happened was … she takes off her wedding ring, OK, right in front of Tareq – takes it off,” Neal told The Daily Beast, sounding astonished. “And then she proceeds to come into my dressing room where I’m sitting down. I have tennis shoes on and she’s, like, nine feet tall over me.” Neal’s voice took on a joyful tone: “And she looks down at me like she’s standing on stilts and says, “I love YOU. And, that’s never gonna change.” “When that happened I said, ‘Get over here! This has taken 15 years!’” The night of the concert, September 4, Neal urged Michaele to just get on the tour bus with him. “I was pretty close to doing it,” Michaele said. “But then I thought, No, that’s not who I am. That would be public humiliation for Tareq.” And so, she went home with her husband that night. Nine days later, Michaele realized she couldn’t stay. “I didn’t want to hurt anyone, but I realized I was hurting myself,” she said. “I was absolutely going crazy. Because when you want to be with someone that bad, you start to go crazy. He sent someone to come get me.” “I got on a plane by myself and I just went. I just walked away.” The rest, as they say, is history. And kidnapping reports , and outrage, and a lot of head-scratching, and a ton of Journey-themed puns.

Natalie Portman Had Better Not Be Getting Rich Off Star Wars

Carrie Fisher would not approve: “Mistakes are a drag, because you get in the area of regret and self-pity. I don’t like to linger in this zone. Obviously, drug use is a huge mistake. So I’ve made some bad choices. That’s reflected in the Princess Leia thing. I do not take it on. Me having a tantrum in the corner for my cut of Star Wars toothpaste? I don’t want to get into it. Every so often, I wonder if Natalie Portman is getting more money than the none I’m getting. If she’s holding a check for Princess Amidala’s likeness in one hand and her Oscar in the other, that would piss me off.” [ The Daily Beast ]

New Ebert Protege Ignatiy Vishnevetsky Fails Movie Quiz — How Would You Do?

I applaud him for playing along and testing his mettle, but there’s no doubt that Ignatiy Vishnevetsky — the new 24-year-old co-host on Roger Ebert Presents At the Movies — crashed and burned while taking The Daily Beast ‘s 10-question movie quiz . He compensated with a slick harangue to Aaron Sorkin midway through question eight, but still, he biffed. Would you have fared better?

Fox News Bureau Chief Told Staff To Cast Doubt On Climate Change

Fox News D.C. Bureau Chief Bill Sammon e-mailed staffers last December to instruct them not to assert that the “planet has warmed (or cooled)” without “IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question.” Sammon's e-mail, obtained by Media Matters, came less than 15 minutes after Fox correspondent Wendell Goler reported on-air that the World Meteorological Organization at the U.N. said 2000-2009 was “on track to be the warmest [decade] on record.” The missive was sent three weeks after the so-called “Climategate” scandal broke and in the middle of the Copenhagen climate summit. The Fox News bureau chief wrote to his staff that it was “not our place as journalists to assert such notions as facts, especially as this debate intensifies.” Climate change isn't the only topic where Sammon has told staffers to tip their coverage toward conservatives: he also instructed staffers to echo GOP talking points in the health care debate by using the term “government option” instead of “public option.” Sammons defended the wording, told the Daily Beast that “public option” is a “vague, bland, undescriptive phrase,” while “government option” is “simply an accurate, fair, objective term.” Read the full e-mail below. From: Sammon, Bill To: 169 -SPECIAL REPORT; 036 -FOX.WHU; 054 -FNSunday; 030 -Root (FoxNews.Com); 050 -Senior Producers; 051 -Producers; 069 -Politics; 005 -Washington Cc: Clemente, Michael; Stack, John; Wallace, Jay; Smith, Sean Sent: Tue Dec 08 12:49:51 2009 Subject: Given the controversy over the veracity of climate change data… …we should refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question. Chris Matthews Says He Can’t Tell Howard Fineman’s Political Leaning

Chris Matthews said Wednesday that he can't tell what Howard Fineman's political leaning is. Such humorously occurred at the end of a “Hardball” segment shortly after the host had no problem identifying his other guest as “center-right” (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Bloomberg’s Carlson Slams Christine O’Donnell as Brainless, But Gushed Over Primary Victories of Boxer and Feinstein in ’92

In a zinger that roused the indignation of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Bloomberg columnist Margaret Carlson cast Christine O’Donnell as Sarah Palin’s protege – but “with not a fully-functioning human brain.” But in 1992, Carlson gushed over the primary victories of current Sens. Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein. Does she hold a double-standard? Co-host Mika Brzezinski was taken aback when the panel had to discuss Carlson’s piece for The Daily Beast, “Watch Your Back, Sarah.” She silently mouthed the word “bitchy” to Carlson to describe the article, adding that it was “searing.” Carlson’s piece focuses on the emergence of the Republican Delaware Senate nominee as the next Sarah Palin protege, predicting a political catfight of sorts between the two female GOP stars. Carlson labeled O’Donnell an “obvious knockoff” of Palin, “hawking her wares on the shores of the Delaware.” Appearing on “Morning Joe” Wednesday, Carlson sneered that O’Donnell lacks a “fully-functioning human brain.” Of course, there was a time when she smiled upon the emergence of female Senate candidates. In 1992, Carlson hailed the primary victories of now California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein, both Democrats and both liberal feminists. “There was a rush, an exultation that surpassed any political moment I have ever known – better even than Geraldine Ferraro’s vice-presidential candidacy,” she wrote. Eighteen years later, it’s conservative Republican women who are heating up the 2010 midterm season, and Carlson can’t do enough to bash them at every turn. A transcript of the segment, which aired on September 22 at 6:24 a.m. EDT, is as follows: MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Margaret wrote a searing piece on this woman called “Watch Your Back, Sarah.” And I’m sorry, it’s a little – JOE SCARBOROUGH: A little harsh? BRZEZINSKI: (Mouthing words) Bitchy. A little – I’m sorry. (…) MARGARET: This is how we get in trouble. BRZEZINSKI: I’m just saying – “rarr.” (Imitating cat noise) CARLSON: No, I was just suggesting that – BRZEZINSKI: You more than suggest. CARLSON: Christine O’Donnell is, you know, what the Republican Party’s been heading to for a long time. It’s – she’s post-Sarah Palin. And she’s got a fully – SCARBOROUGH: (Laughing) Post-modernist. (Crosstalk) CARLSON: With not a fully-functioning human brain. (Collective groan) WILLIE GEIST: That’s not fair. BRZEZINSKI: You go below the belt. CARLSON: This is where the elites will be getting out the e-mail now to me. But, you know, she’s not, she’s not ready for this. I think she’s more fluent than Sarah Palin, in that what she says comes out better and you can parse it. But she’s taken on – she’s taken on – she’s copying her act. I mean, already, you know, she’s putting on the glasses. She doesn’t need them except for cosmetic reasons.

Scarborough: ‘Certain Networks’ Would Maul ‘Boss Hogg’ Barbour In Run Against Obama

Gee, I wonder which network Joe had in mind . . . Joe Scarborough likes Haley Barbour.  But he doesn’t like the “optics” of the southern governor running for president against Barack Obama.  Scarborough’s worried that “certain networks” would “maul” the man Scarborough referred to as “Boss Hogg.” [H/t reader Ray R.] Interestingly, both the Politico’s Jim VandeHei and Tina Brown of the Daily Beast were able to see more of an upside for Haley.  VandeHei described him as best among Republicans at articulating conservative principles, while Brown saw the hands-on governor’s potential as the “un-Barack.” Also revealing was that in praising Barbour, Scarborough focused solely on Haley’s willingness to stand up against the “crackpots” in the Republican party.   Watch as Joe tiptoes his way through the minefield of MSNBC’s internal politics. My two cents: should Haley really be worried about being slimed by the likes of Matthews/Olbermann/Maddow?  I don’t think so.  First, they are simply not that influential.  Second, he would wear their scorn as a badge of honor in most of America.
