Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway

Hugh Jackman#39;s appearance as host received critical acclaim for his high energy, his singing and dancing, and his s-ex appeal. At the beginning of the show, he got things off to a rousing start by pulling Hathaway from her seat so she could help him pay musical tribute to the year#39;s nominated films. As Hathaway later told us, her favorite moment of that night was “being in Hugh Jackman#39;s arms and him carrying me on stage!” The 83rd annual Academy Awards will air live Sunday, Feb. 27,

From Gigli to Oscar: Composer John Powell Reacts to His Nomination

Today, John Powell, who has written the score for movies as diverse as The Bourne Ultimatum and Horton Hears a Who (and, yes, Gigli ), received his first Academy Award nomination today for Best Original Score for his work on How to Train Your Dragon . Needless to say, it’s been a long, strange road — one that Movieline revisited with Powell after he received today’s good news.

The Social Network’s Trent Reznor on the Technological Disaster That Occured During The Oscar Noms

After winning the Best Original Soundtrack for The Social Network at this year’s Golden Globes, composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were still not convinced that they would be recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — so much so that Reznor, the former Nine Inch Nails frontman, nervously parked himself in front of the television this morning after a sleepless night to watch the nominations himself. Alas, technological disaster struck — an irony, considering that Reznor was being recognized for his work in the most tech-savvy film of the year.

Ranking the Oscar Reactions: Which Nominees (and Publicists) Brought Their A-Game?

If you’re anything like me, you read most of the publicist-approved Academy Award nominee reactions…and you nod off somewhere between “thrilled to be in the company of such wonderful actors” and “this film was a labor of love.” That’s all good and classy but who cares? We live in a Jersey Shore -driven society where people would sooner light a Wall Street Journal on fire for warmth (and attention) at a Midwestern Justin Bieber concert than read it. Just give us a little creativity and edge that was not approved by your management. With that simple request in mind, Movieline has ranked the Oscar nomination reactions this morning — based on originality, genuineness and political incorrectness — and listed them below for your convenience.

Which Oscar Nominees Are Nomi-nude on MrSkin.com?

Like the Golden Globes did earlier, this year the Academy had decided to reward the actresses who had the courage to get naked and/or make out with another chick on screen with a coveted Oscar nomination. In the Best Actress category, four of the five nominees are naked on MrSkin.com. Annette Bening , who was nominated for making out with Julianne Moore in The Kids Are All Right , showed off all 3 B’s in The Grifters . Nicole Kidman , nominated for Rabbit Hole , revealed her own rabbit hole when she got fully nude in Billy Bathgate . Natalie Portman , nominated for making out with Mila Kunis in Black Swan , is showing off her rear porthole in theaters this weekend in the romantic comedy No Strings Attached . And finally, Michelle Williams was nominated for baring boobs and butt in the NC-17 flick Blue Valentine . So if Jennifer Lawrence —the one nominee who didn’t get naked—doesn’t win the Oscar, she’ll know why.

Are You Looking Forward to a Bunch of Homophobic Super Bowl Commercials?

I hate this. I hate the Super Bowl. Hate it. Worst of all, I hate the cavalcade of expensive, often-offensive commercials that come with the Super Bowl. Extended families and fraternities and crochet klatches gather for the big event, and what do they see? Unabashedly gay-unfriendly commercials like the following Doritos ads , which are being considered for air. Look, straight people doing suggestively gay things — but for your amusement! Comedy! I hate this.

Now Even the Pope is On the Social Network Bandwagon

Might The Social Network be God’s choice to win Best Picture? “Entering cyberspace,” Pope Benedict said today in an address essentially giving his blessing to social networking, “can be a sign of an authentic search for personal encounters with others, provided that attention is paid to avoiding dangers such as enclosing oneself in a sort of parallel existence, or excessive exposure to the virtual world. In the search for sharing, for ‘friends,’ there is the challenge to be authentic and faithful, and not give in to the illusion of constructing an artificial public profile for oneself.” Huh. I always took him for more of a Black Swan guy. [ Reuters ]
