I hate this. I hate the Super Bowl. Hate it. Worst of all, I hate the cavalcade of expensive, often-offensive commercials that come with the Super Bowl. Extended families and fraternities and crochet klatches gather for the big event, and what do they see? Unabashedly gay-unfriendly commercials like the following Doritos ads , which are being considered for air. Look, straight people doing suggestively gay things — but for your amusement! Comedy! I hate this.

Might The Social Network be God’s choice to win Best Picture? “Entering cyberspace,” Pope Benedict said today in an address essentially giving his blessing to social networking, “can be a sign of an authentic search for personal encounters with others, provided that attention is paid to avoiding dangers such as enclosing oneself in a sort of parallel existence, or excessive exposure to the virtual world. In the search for sharing, for ‘friends,’ there is the challenge to be authentic and faithful, and not give in to the illusion of constructing an artificial public profile for oneself.” Huh. Still, it’s a bit early in the day, so why don’t you get your alcohol-related ya-yas out via Movieline’s exclusive clip from The Good Heart , released today on video-on-demand and in theaters on April 30. It’s a fitting introduction to the dive bar that’s the focus of the film, a gritty place owned by Jacques (Brian Cox), who’s grooming the homeless Lucas (Paul Dano) to take it over. You’ll learn the rules of this particular establishment: dogs are permitted (as long as they can hold their own in a staring contest), but new customers are not, especially when they’re looking for organic ingredients in their Bloody Marys. You’ve been warned!

World AIDS Day: Punitive laws threaten HIV progress

HIV prevention efforts – and the promise of antiretroviral therapy as prevention – are being undermined by punitive laws targeting those infected with and at risk of HIV, Human Rights Watch said today on the eve of World AIDS Day. This year's World AIDS Day theme is “universal access and human rights,” tying together goals for universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, and care with recognition that respect for human rights is critical in the global response to AIDS.
