Jennifer Aniston, sitcom star, movie star, yoga-guru, Brad Pitt cheating survivor, ageless 30 year old, hair-style innovator, and now an official Oscar snubbee, will still be a presenter at the 87th Academy Awards on February 22 Her bootstraps have been pulled-up more times than any of us can count. 1) We just passed the ten-year anniversary of her famous split with Brad Pitt , 2) She’s endured a TWO-YEAR engagement to actor/director/writer/wedding-procrastinator Justin Theroux, who may or MAY NOT deserve her at this point (though he’s very funny and talented – see his movies), based on a number of cheating rumors . 3) She is locked in an unending feud with fellow mega-star/Bradd Pitt spouse Angelina Jolie . 4) She’s been through the relationship ringer with Adam Duritz, John Mayer, and Vince Vaughn, to name a few. 5) She’s the only one to survive the Friends curse and actually have a career outside of the show. And now, after years of good roles and some not-so-good roles, she finally zeroes-in on an academy caliber part, and they snub her. Yup! They snubbed the crap out of her (and Jolie, by the way), and yet she still … SHE STILL… is willing to present? This is a woman who can’t be stopped, who can’t be slowed down, who can’t be killed. Her career has withstood more slings and arrows than any I can think of, and yet she still ranks amongst the highest grossing female stars of all time. If the Academy won’t recognize her, then us do it: 16 Hottest Pics of Jennifer Aniston 1. The first black woman to head the Academy of Motion Picture Arts says they’re committed to diversity, but this year’s nominees tell a different story . Are her comments to be trusted? Via NY Daily News reports: The first black president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences spoke out Friday night in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press about the Oscar nominations and the widespread criticism that followed. Cheryl Boone Isaacs insisted the academy is “committed to seeking out diversity of voice and opinion” and that outreach to women and artists of color is a major focus. “In the last two years, we’ve made greater strides than we ever have in the past toward becoming a more diverse and inclusive organization through admitting new members and more inclusive classes of members,” Boone Isaacs said. “And, personally, I would love to see and look forward to see a greater cultural diversity among all our nominees in all of our categories.” Boone Isaacs declined to address whether she and the academy were embarrassed by the slate of white Oscar nominees, instead insisting that she’s proud of the nominees, all of whom deserved recognition. “What is important not to lose sight of is that ‘Selma,’ which is a fantastic motion picture, was nominated for best picture this year, and the best picture category is voted on by the entire membership of around 7,000 people,” Boone Isaacs said. Besides best picture, the film received just one additional nod — for original song — in what was widely viewed as a significant snub. But fans shouldn’t feel that way, she said: “It’s nominated for the Oscar for best picture. It’s an award that showcases the talent of everyone involved in the production of the movie ‘Selma.’” Though she repeatedly stressed the Oscars are a competitive process and that she’s proud of the year’s nominees, Boone Isaacs acknowledged that diversity needs to be mandatory in both story and storyteller. “It matters that we pay attention to, again, the diversity of voice and opinion and experience, and that it doesn’t slide, it doesn’t slide anywhere except for forward,” she said. “And maybe this year is more just about let’s kick it in even more.” It’s probably worth noting that a 2012 survey by the Los Angeles Times found the academy was 94 percent white, overwhelmingly male and with a median age of 62. There are currently around 7,000 members and there’s no requirement to retire so it’s probably safe to say the Academy will mostly be made up for old white men for quite some time to come. Still, after the uproar this year it’s pretty obvious something needs to be done to be sure that black actors and projects are being equally considered, riiiiight? WENN

Earlier this week, the cast of The Shawshank Redemption reunited in Hollywood for a 20th anniversary screening of the film. A box office flop when it was first released in 1994, Shawshank has since earned its place on the short list of true modern cinematic classics. The Shawshank Redemption Cast Photos 1. Tim Robbins The most recognizable Shawshank inmate at the time of the film’s release, Robbin’s performance as the wrongly-convicted Andy Dufresne has since become his signature role. In the years that followed he directed the acclaimed film Dead Man Walking, won an Academy Award for his performance in Mystic River, and established his place as one of Hollywood’s most versatile talents. Life-affirming but never cloying; heart-wrenching without being manipulative, Shawshank is one of those rare films whose appeal transcends generational boundaries and the demographic niches that usually determine a film’s success. No small feat for a film that features a murder and a rape scene in its first 20 minutes. Yes, unlike other films that have survived as sentimental favorites, Shawshank is no family-friendly romp. A tale of brutality and injustice of the highest order, Shawshank – like its protagonist in the film’s thrilling climax – takes the hard road to an unexpectedly satisfying conclusion. In that sense, it’s a film that proves one of the most vital truths of storytelling – a happy ending is only as moving as the struggles that preceded it. 1994 was a banner year for American movies, with Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction also vying for Academy Awards honors. And yet somehow despite the boomer-years nostalgia of Gump and the violently audacious thrills of Fiction, Shawshank might be the year’s most enduringly beloved offering. And for a film that was widely dismissed by audiences twenty years ago, there can surely be no greater redemption. Check out our update on Shawshank’s principal players in the gallery above.
