Neil Patrick Harris will soon be able to add yet another hosting gig to his very impressive resume. The former How I Met Your Mother star – who has previously emceed the Tony Awards and the Emmy Awards, while also having taken home trophies at both those events – has been tapped to host the 2015 Academy Awards. The show will air live on ABC on Sunday, February 22. “It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards,” Harris said via statement. “I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. “To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.” As multi-talented a performer as exists in Hollywood, Harris portrays the character of Desi in Gone Girl . Last week marked the 15th anniversary of the release of American Beauty . The film would go on to gross over $350 million and win five Academy Awards including Best Picture. American Beauty Cast: Then and Now 1. Kevin Spacey Spacey won his second Oscar for American Beauty and remains one of the most esteemed actors in Hollywood. He currently stars in the Netflix series House of Cards. Beauty was widely considered to be among the best of the ’90s, but years since have seen a critical reappraisal of the the film, with the term “overrated” being tossed about a good deal. Recently, even the film’s director Sam Mendes confessed that he considered Beauty to be “over-praised” when it first hit theaters in 1999. Even so, Beauty has retained an incredible level of cultish adoration and seems poised to be the sort of movie that will find an audience amongst disaffected teens and bored, middle-aged suburbanites for generations to come The film’s cast has experienced its own share of ups and downs, with some actors going on to A-list success, others fading into an obscurity, and at least one achieving a remarkable comeback. Wes Bentley’s role in The Hunger Games may not have been the most memorable part of the film, but to those who followed his career as he went from Beauty ‘s brooding neighbor to washed-up addict deemed unworthy even of tabloid coverage, his return to the big screen was nothing short of miraculous. While Bentley’s remarkable resurgence is impressive to say the least, the film’s greatest success story remains the career of Kevin Spacey. When Hollywood legend Kim Novak presented at the Academy Awards in February, the iconic actress didn’t receive quite the reaction she expected from her rare public appearance. We can’t let people get away with affecting our lives.” Novak claims the cruel criticism she received triggered a personal “tailspin” and she goes on to specifically call out Donald Trump who tweeted that Kim should “sue her plastic surgeon” during her presentation. On Sunday, cameras caught Jennifer Lawrence falling at the Oscars for the second straight year, this time in her Dior gown while waving to fans on the red carpet. Later, before presenting the Best Actor award, she yelled at someone in the crowd from the stage, saying, “Why are you laughing? What? Is this funny?” Leto, this year’s Best Supporting Actor winner, revealed that she was in fact scolding Jared and his mother and brother, who were laughing in their seats. “She said, ‘What are you laughing at?’ But what she didn’t know was that Ellen was on the side … making, pantomiming [motions like], ‘Don’t fall, don’t fall.'” “My mom and brother are all cracking up … I guess we don’t have any manners. You can take them out of Louisiana but you can’t take Louisiana out of them, right?” When asked about Jen’s infamous tumble that led to the on-stage exchange, Leto said, “You know, I’m starting to wonder if this is a bit of an act.” Last year, she similarly stumbled up the stage in a Dior gown while walking up the stairs to accept the award for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook. 12 Years a Slave was among the major 2014 Academy Awards winners Sunday, taking home Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley. Cause for celebration, right? Mostly. Director Steve McQueen and Ridley are reportedly engaged in a feud regarding writing credits for the acclaimed film. When Ridley was announced as the winner of the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for the film, Steve McQueen appeared … less than thrilled. Then, Ridley failed to name the film’s director among the many “thank you” mentions in the speech. Coincidences and the products of nerves or bad timing? Possible, certainly. Neither would be unprecedented on such an occasion. But the rumors began anyway, fueled by a tweet from reporter Nikki Finke. She wrote that her (unnamed) sources “attributing the John Ridley-Steve McQueen cold shoulder at Oscars tonight to dispute over screenplay credit.” Ridley (top left, in above photo) also did not bring up McQueen (bottom right, speaking) the night before after his win at the Independent Spirit Awards. Did McQueen want credit on the script as well? Is there something else wrong between them? Neither has commented on the alleged feud as of this point.
