Katy Perry Says She Swiped ‘E.T.’ From Three 6 Mafia

Perry’s latest single was actually meant for the Academy Award-winning rap group. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sway Calloway Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry has already said that when she was writing songs for her Teenage Dream album, her goal was to “make a different ‘movie’ for each song.” So it’s ironic that her latest single, “E.T.,” was actually meant for a group who knows a thing or two about movies … and they’ve got the Academy Award to prove it. “I’ll tell you, it’s funny … this song, I remember writing with Max Martin and Dr. Luke, and there’s this producer they wrote with, named Ammo as well, and they were just showing me different samples of songs or tracks or beats, and they accidentally pulled up this beat, and it was for Three 6 Mafia,” Perry told MTV News. “I heard it and I always knew I wanted to write this futuristic, alienistic song, and they pulled it up and I was like, ‘Wait, I can wrap my head around this. I know this seems like a long shot, but I think I have the perfect material to put on top of this sound.’ And I did, and it really worked out perfectly.” So if you’re one of those Katy fans who’s a bit mystified by the abrupt change of pace of “E.T.” — and its equally left-of-center video — well, then you can sort of understand why: Deep down, it’s actually a Three 6 Mafia track. “It’s a whole different vibe for me. It’s kind of a bit harder, it does have that urban feel underneath it. I think that’s why Kanye added even another layer on top of it,” Perry explained. “And it has … amazing … sonics — I mean, there’s so much to it, there’s a lot in the song if you really put your headphones on and sink into the song.” And that’s just part of what drew Perry to the track in the first place. After all, on Teenage Dream, she set out to make movies … and though it may confound some of her fans, “E.T.” is perhaps the most wonderfully odd movie she’s ever made. And she knows it. “Even teasing people with different images from ‘E.T.,’ people are so perplexed, ” she laughed. “They’re like, ‘Katy Perry, you’re supposed to be Betty Boop! You’re supposed to be wearing pink!’ It’s exciting to be able to push my audience, to be like, ‘There’s always more, I’ve got all of this hidden up my sleeve that I’ve really longed to show people.'” What did you think of Katy’s new video? Help Caption This Pre-Murder Picture of Alison Brie in Scream 4

File Scream 4 among one of my biggest curiosities of the spring. After all, its legendarily confused shoot seemed like a harbinger of bad things to come, but the marketing has been airtight — filled with the energy, humor and multitude of Ghostface suspects that recall the original Scream . One person we can probably scratch off that list of possible killers, though? Alison Brie! An official look at the Community star walking through an empty parking garage has arrived online, and it seems like the calm before the storm. Or in Scream -speak, the calm before someone gets brutally murdered. Click ahead and caption away.

Academy Civil War Brewing Over 2012 Oscar Hosts?

The Great Oscar Host Debacle of 2011 remains an open wound today at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, from which Academy president Tom Sherak ruminated about the efficacy (or lack thereof) of James Franco, Anne Hathaway, and/or any comics who might have assumed their places. But the real fun starts, however, with the told-you-so moment supplied by an anonymous, “high-ranking Academy member.”

It’s a celebrity fashion clash of cuties from the Academy Awards. Cuties may not even do these two justice, based on the dresses they donned Sunday night. Christian Bale Tears Up After Best Supporting Actor Oscar Win

‘I didn’t think I was like this,’ the ‘Fighter’ actor says, thanking his family, co-stars and real-life Dicky Eklund. By Shawn Adler Christian Bale wins the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images As the Dark Knight, Christian Bale has faced the Scarecrow’s fear gas, the Joker’s anarchy and Two-Face’s betrayal. Who would have thought it would be a foot-tall opponent named Oscar who finally made him cry? A triumphant Bale fought back tears after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Dicky Eklund in “The Fighter” at the Oscars on Sunday night (February 27). It was the 37-year-old’s first nomination and first Academy Award. “I didn’t think I was like this,” Bale said, a lump in his throat. “[Thanks to] my wonderful wife and our little girl, who’s taught me so much more than I’ll ever be able to teach her.” For Bale, it was an uncommonly sentimental ending to a speech that began with good humor and a few laughs. “What a room full of talented and inspirational people,” Bale said when he first took the stage. “What am I doing here?” The Hollywood veteran and star of the upcoming “The Dark Knight Rises” even managed to good-naturedly refer to his infamous rant on the set of “Terminator: Salvation,” where he was caught on tape yelling profanity-laden tirades at a member of the crew. “I’m not gonna drop the F-bomb like [co-star and Best Supporting Actress winner] Melissa Leo did,” Bale joked. “I’ve done that plenty!” While thanking director David O. Russell and co-stars Leo, Amy Adams, and Mark Wahlberg, it was for Eklund that Bale saved his most fervent praise and gratitude, even managing to insert a plug for the Pride of Lowell’s website. “Where’s my quacker?” Bale asked, scanning the crowd for Dicky, who stood to feverous applause from the crowd. “Hey, mate, you’re the best! He’s had a wonderful story, and I can’t wait to see the next chapter. If you want to be a champ, go train with him! Check him out, he deserves it!” Stick with MTV News on Oscar night and beyond for red-carpet fashion coverage, analysis of the winners, plus interviews, photos and more from your favorite Hollywood stars!
