Dre about to have to come up off that Beats cash? Jimmy Iovine & Dr. Dre Sued For “Stealing” Beats Technology Looks like those amazing Christmas bonuses Dr. Dre gave his legal team are about to come in extra handy. The rapper, along with business partner Jimmy Iovine, is being sued by Monster for stealing the technology for the wildly successful Beats audio brand and leaving Monster in the dust. Via Forbes : For audio cable company Monster, the wound that Beats Electronics left is years old but still stings like a fresh stab in the back. In a lawsuit filed in San Mateo County Superior Court Tuesday, Monster CEO Noel Lee said that his company was betrayed by Beats Electronics, the company behind “Beats By Dr. Dre” headphones, when the two companies parted ways in 2012, and that Beats has gone on to try to erase Monster’s contribution to its headphones. The suit claims that rapper Andre “ Dr. Dre” Young and music mogul Jimmy Iovine conspired to steal the audio engineering that Monster built for the Beats headphones, which were a joint project. The suit alleges that Monster, not Beats, was primarily responsible for designing the headphones, and after Dre and Iovine severed ties with Monster, they tried to wipe away Monster’s role in Beats’ success. It adds that beyond Dre’s status as a celebrity, his “main contribution was to bless Monster’s headphones when he exclaimed: ‘That’s the s–t!’” While Monster was left trying to build a new product to compete with its own creation – and without the technology that Beats retained control of — Beats continued to succeed. In May, Apple AAPL -0.03% bought the company for $3 billion. Thanks to the sale, Dre walked away with an estimated $650 million before taxes in 2014, which rocketed him to the top of FORBES’ highest-earning musicians list for the year. Yikes! If this case gets proven in court, Dr. Dre might have to finally release that “Detox” album he’s been talking about for the past 15 years to make up for that $600 mil in lost cash…
Pastor Mase stays looking shady. Mase Accused Of Stealing Photo To Promote Song Mase is selling “Happy Marriage” books while being legally separated from his wife and now he’s stealing people’s photos. According to TMZ: Mase’s return to rap is off to a rough start — he’s getting sued over his comeback song by a model who claims he jacked her photo to promote his song. According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Stephanie Delgado (who goes by Stephanie Rao for modeling) claims Mase lifted the photo straight from her Instagram page and used it to promote his new song, “Why Can’t We.” Rao says no one ever contacted her asking for permission to use the photo … which she says ended up being used on more than 40 different sites to promote the song. Rao is seeking royalties in the amount of $60,000 and damages in the amount of $180,000. Dude, you can’t be taking people’s isht without permission. Check out the song below:
It’s all about the Benjamin’s baby. Diddy Tops Forbes’ Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artist List Diddy may have haters at Howard University, but he’s still making that gwap. According to BET: Sean “Diddy” Combs continues to be the wealthiest artist in hip hop. Diddy tops Forbes’ 2014 list of Hip-Hop’s Wealthiest Artists with a net worth of $700 million, bringing him one step closer to becoming the game’s first billionaire. He’s held the top spot since the list started circulating in 2011. This fiscal cycle, the Bad Boy Records mogul has seen his net worth increase by $120 million since the launch of his music channel, Revolt TV, last year. Second on the Forbes’ list is Dr. Dre, at $550 million. The reigning king of the headphones industry garnered most of his multi-millions from the success of Beats by Dre, and this year bested Jay Z for the No. 2 spot he held in 2013. Still, Jay follows closely behind Dre with $520 million. He is the only name in the top five that can count personal record sales in his take home. Hov’s deal with Samsung to exclusively release Magna Carta Holy Grail netted him a multi-million dollar paycheck last year, in addition to the money made from royalties, touring and his Roc Nation imprint. Brian “Birdman” Williams took the fourth spot at $160 million, which is just over half of the $300 million Cash Money empire he splits with brother Ronald “Slim” Williams. Lastly, holding his spot among the top five, is 50 Cent at $140 million. Fif’s placement is credited to the windfall he pocketed from a Vitaminwater deal in 2007. Diddy, Jay, Birdman….can we hold a stack? AKM-GSI
Leave it to the French to finally figure out how to make men’s magazines hot again. Because these pictures of Australian model Emily Scott in FHM France are definitely doing the trick. If I’m remembering correctly, I think Emily used to be a DJ or something, which I guess explains the headphones, but that seems like a total waste of her obvious talents. All I know is, if I paid money to get into a club to party with Emily, I’d be expecting to see her dressed like this, not standing behind a DJ booth.
