Kellan Lutz Says ‘Eclipse’ Has ‘A Great Mix Of Romance And Action’

‘It’s great when Emmett’s in there, and he’s there to fight,’ Lutz tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Kellan Lutz definitely has the build to pull off the most intense action scenes in “Eclipse,” and the actor knows that the third “Twilight Saga” flick is Emmett Cullen’s time to shine. “I just love doing my own stunts,” he told MTV News. “I love stunt work. It sucks that I can’t rewrite the books and add more dialogue for Emmett, because I really do have more action scenes than dialogue. So it’s great when ‘Eclipse’ came around, ’cause I do love the book the best, and I think it just had such a great mix of the romance and the action and the collaboration of the two. “I love to work, so it’s great when Emmett’s in there, and he’s there to fight,” he added. “So I really just loved doing stunts.” When ideas were brewing about how to make the stunts happen in “Eclipse,” Lutz was the go-to guy for experimentation. “The producers know I like doing the stunts so much, to the point where they make me the guinea pig,” he laughed. “So we were doing this treadmill running sequence, so you’re wearing these contacts and you’re breathing in exhaust from the truck, and it’s cold as hell up there, and you’re trying to run and not pant, ’cause I’m a vampire.” The cast has been quite vocal about upping the action ante in “Eclipse.” Taylor Lautner recently revealed that it’s the most “guy-friendly” of the “Twilight” flicks. “It’s my favorite, because it’s the most guy-friendly by far,” Lautner explained. “It’s dangerous. There’s a lot of action. The romance is still there, but the action level is stepped up way more. It’s great.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Knight And Day’: Run Time, By Kurt Loder

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in an over-amped but underpowered spy tale. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in “Knight and Day” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox and Regency Enterprises Anyone who’s ever been trapped on a plane flight from Hell — squashed by sprawling seatmates, battered by passing backpacks, besieged by squalling brats — will appreciate the elegant simplicity of Tom Cruise’s solution to similar problems: He kills everybody. Literally. But then they were trying to kill him. Even the pilots. Which is why they’re dead, too. Emerging from the loo, Cameron Diaz is surprised to find that she and Tom are now alone, unless you count corpses as company. And she’s worried — the plane is diving fast. Tom will handle that. (“No need to panic.”) But then what? The answer to that question has been clear in every espionage-romance dating back at least to Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps.” The answer is: Run! If only “Knight and Day” gave these two much else to do. Playing rogue CIA agent Roy Miller, Cruise deploys his smooth charm to ravishing effect — we’re reminded again of what a supple comic actor he can be. And as innocent bystander June Havens, Diaz, with her eager eyes and engulfing grin, is adorable throughout. But the script, by first-time screenwriter Patrick O’Neill, doesn’t have enough of the breezy wit that makes a classic spy-chase movie like “North by Northwest” so pleasurable. There are some good lines. (Noting that trouble-magnet Roy has been wounded at one point, June deadpans, “You have to go to the hospital. Prison, maybe.”) But director James Mangold (“Walk the Line”) is mostly intent on goosing the action along from one nifty set of stunts to the next. The stunts are pretty great — especially a heavy-damage highway chase (which seems fresher than usual here) and a wild escape through a Spanish bull-run stampede. But we miss the stylish downtime that would allow us to catch our breath. And we miss the romance. Cruise and Diaz have real chemistry, but the script doesn’t enable them to do much with it. (Although there is a cute moment when she wakes up in a bikini she wasn’t wearing when she passed out. Too bad this sexy tease doesn’t build into anything interesting.) In the traditional way, the story is a flimsy thing; and in the traditional way, that doesn’t matter. Roy is being chased by a team of his former CIA colleagues led by an inscrutable character named Fitzgerald (Peter Sarsgaard). Fitzgerald is convinced that Roy has lost his mind and absconded with an ultra-powerful device called the Zephyr. (“The biggest thing since the sun,” Roy says.) The determined spooks chase Roy and June — who has fallen into this mess by sheerest accident — from Boston to the Azores (where Roy maintains a private island) to Austria (look out for the assassin!) to the Spanish villa where an international arms dealer named Antonio (Jordi Moll

Robert Pattinson More Comfortable In ‘Eclipse’ Action Scenes Than ‘New Moon’

‘For some reason, I felt a lot more comfortable with the action stuff this time,’ actor says. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News “New Moon” introduced us to the shape-shifting wolf pack, the ferocious Volturi vampires and scene after scene of ass-kicking action. “I think that guys can definitely relate to the action-packed part of it and the fights that break out and all the special effects that will happen,” star Dakota Fanning said of the movie. But not all guys, it seems. Robert Pattinson himself confessed to MTV News that he never felt comfortable during those action sequences. “Normally I just feel so silly,” he said. “In ‘New Moon,’ I remember starting the fight with Taylor at the end. I felt like such a moron.” It’s not that Pattinson felt ill at ease throwing punches — it’s that his wardrobe was not exactly the sort of gear that made him feel like a badass action star. “You’re always wearing skinny jeans, a little blazer and a kind of woolen sweater and trying to act like you’re tough,” he laughed. “You just know it’s not going to happen.” Yet something must have happened to Pattinson in the months between wrapping “New Moon” in the spring of 2009 and the start of “Eclipse” filming in the fall, because the 24-year-old was much more relaxed when it came to shooting the action for the third installment in the “Twilight” franchise. Not that RPattz knows exactly what changed. “For some reason, I felt a lot more comfortable with the action stuff this time,” he said. That’s a good thing, since he had a ton of action scenes to shoot. You might even say Pattinson does three things in “Eclipse”: He runs around in action scenes, argues with Taylor Lautner and snuggles with Kristen Stewart. So which of these three on-set activities did he enjoy the most? “What about those scenes snuggling with Taylor?” Pattinson joked. “Was that cut?” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
